Chapter 89: Chapter 76 - The Confession
Scene Title: "I Only Wanted One Thing"
Setting:
Flooded stone coliseum deep in the Maze of Angels. Marble statues crack from pressure. Water ripples with every breath. The echoes of past Chosen deaths haunt the pillars.
Morgz vs. Shojiro — The Fight Begins
Shojiro lands hard in the arena, water splashing around his feet. His muscles coil — condensed, primed, but shaking from exhaustion.
Across the arena stands Morgz, half-submerged in a swirling aquatic dome. Aegis Shoal rotates around him — dozens of piranha-like constructs orbiting like a sea of living razors.
His hands glow blue with Piercing Water — hyper-compressed rounds of liquid that slice through stone like bullets through paper.
Morgz (monotone):
"I warned you."
Shojiro:
"Morgz… this ain't the way—"
Morgz fires.
A beam of blue slashes the space between them. Shojiro dodges — barely — but his shoulder rips open, the wound refusing to close.
Shojiro (gritting his teeth):
"Yggdrasil... it's not healing—"
Morgz (voice cracking):
"Because I meant it."
Morgz's Dominance — Water vs. Muscle
Shojiro charges — a blur of strength — but the Piranha Swarm erupts from below, biting at his legs. The moment he swings, Aegis Shoal intercepts, fish exploding into watery shrapnel against his fists.
Shojiro:
"Tch—can't even get close..."
Morgz leaps back, twisting midair, then snipes Shojiro's ankle with a piercing shot. The hit lands — Shojiro stumbles, bleeding again.
Morgz (panting, dead-serious):
"Fifty deaths, Shojiro.
Fifty.
And I never got a chance to feel human."
Shojiro Gets Serious
Shojiro activates Overheat Pulse, his steam burning the water around him, creating a fog curtain.
But Morgz is ready.
Morgz:
"You think fog hides you?"
He sinks into the water, vanishing completely.
A beat.
Suddenly —
WHAM! A water cannon explodes upward, hitting Shojiro square in the gut. He's flung back, body skidding across the flooded arena.
The Confession That Breaks the Battle
Enme appears at the top of the stairs, breathing hard, soaked and trembling. She's seen enough.
Enme (screaming):
"MORGZ!!"
He pauses mid-aim, water still gathering at his fingertips.
Enme steps into the arena, barefoot, her dress dragging wet stone. Her voice trembles.
Enme:
"I heard what you said. About dying over and over.
And I don't know if this is the right time—
but dammit—
I love you."
Shojiro freezes, stunned.
Morgz's expression doesn't shift. Not at first.
But then his hands begin to shake. His water constructs dissolve into puddles.
Morgz (whispers):
"…No…"
Flashback: The Forest Talk
The moss, the soft sunlight.
Morgz laughing nervously.
Enme smiling faintly, not speaking what she truly felt.
His fist bump.
His line: "Let's just be friends."
The memory rushes back like drowning.
Morgz Breaks Down
Morgz slowly drops to his knees, fists clenched. Water splashes around him.
He looks at Enme — truly looks.
Tears streak down his cheeks.
Morgz:
"I wanted you.
Before all this.
When I thought there was still time…
I dreamed of you."
Enme takes a step closer, hopeful. Shojiro starts to rise.
Morgz (shaking his head):
"But I let go of that dream.
Back in the forest, I buried it.
I accepted… that we'd only ever be teammates.
Because I didn't think I was worth anything more."
He lifts his eyes to hers — crushed.
Morgz:
"So I'm sorry.
I can't take it back now.
We're just… friends."
Emotional Fallout
Enme stumbles backward like she was shot. Her hands tremble. Her voice is almost inaudible.
Enme:
"…Then why did you make me feel like I could hope…"
She turns and walks away. No tears. Just silence.
Scene: "Say That Again, Witch."
Setting: Flooded arena in the Maze of Angels
Shojiro: Bruised and bleeding, recovering slowly
Morgz: Kneeling in the center, silent and unstable
Enme: Walking away, shoulders shaking
Zixy: Watching from the edge of the coliseum, one eye glowing beneath her stitched bangs
Zixy (calling out, deadpan):
"Alright, enough of this sad-loner anime arc bullshit."
Everyone turns.
She steps forward, unbothered by the ankle-deep water, her heels clicking on stone. Her puppet dangles from her arm like a cursed omen. The air shifts.
Zixy (to Morgz, dry as bone):
"You want a girlfriend so bad you're willing to kill one of your own?"
"Fine. I'll be your girlfriend."
Silence.
Even the piranha shoal hovering around Morgz freezes mid-orbit. The water stills. Shojiro's jaw half-drops.
Morgz (choked):
"…what?"
Zixy walks closer. Calm. Cold. Dead serious.
Zixy:
"I've died 50 times too, dumbass.
Lost my mind more times than I've changed clothes.
If you think loneliness gives you a license to go psycho, I'll remind you—I'm way more cursed than you."
She stops just inches from Morgz, stares him dead in the eye.
Zixy (smirking):
"Now, listen closely, Aquaman.
I'm volunteering.
You want a girlfriend?
You've got one."
She leans forward slightly.
Zixy (lower):
"But only if you stop acting like a whiny, self-pitying, waterlogged wreck and stand the hell back up."
Yggdrasil Reacts
Morgz's eyes glow with stunned disbelief.
The water around him begins to drain slowly. The piranhas fizzle into mist. His Aegis Shoal disperses.
Yggdrasil's failsafe kicks in — the emotional knot uncoiling. Shojiro's wounds begin to close for real. The threat passes.
Morgz's Voice Cracks
Morgz (voice shaking):
"… Why would you—?"
Zixy (interrupting):
"Because you're an idiot.
Because I'm tired of watching people I care about implode.
Because I'd rather date a fish-brained tank than bury another friend."
Pause.
Zixy (softer):
"…And maybe because… I don't hate the idea."
The Fight Ends
Shojiro finally relaxes, stretching with a groan.
Shojiro:
"Bro… I nearly lost a leg to your girl problems."
Zixy (grinning without looking back):
"You're welcome."
Morgz looks up at her — eyes wet, lip trembling — and for the first time in what feels like 50 lifetimes… he smiles.
Not a grin. Not a smirk.
A real, fragile smile.
Morgz:
"…Okay. I'll go."
Shojiro finally stands, bruised, but calm.
He walks over to Morgz and sits beside him, the water up to their knees.
Shojiro:
"Next time you break a girl's heart, try not to nearly kill me first."
Morgz (snorts a weak laugh):
"No promises."
