CALAMITY : Legends Of The Chosen

Chapter 35: Chapter 28 - The Silence After the Song

Location: The heart of the mist village. A haunting stillness settles over the battlefield.

Status: The Siren Queen is dead. Her melody is gone. But her grip… is just now beginning to unravel.

Scene: The Siren's Spell Breaks

The mist trembled.

Then, silence.

A deep, guttural stillness fell like a curtain across the ruins—unnatural in how complete it was. For the first time in what felt like hours, there were no whispers in the air. No melodies. No sound.

Shojiro gasped suddenly, like a diver breaking the surface.

His shoulders loosened. His fists unclenched. His heartbeat stopped pounding in his ears.

He looked down at his hands, flexing them like a man waking from sleep.

"Wha… what was I doing?"

Max's body gave out, collapsing onto his knees.

"I-I… I think I was trying to… dance???"

Karl grunted, falling back and landing hard against a stone pillar. Sparks sizzled across his visor as his nanocore rebooted.

"I was about to carve Enme's name into my arm with a damn nanoblade…"

Enme, standing at the center, lowered the barrier she didn't even realize she had maintained through the trance.

Her hands shook.

"That witch… she used me like a tuning fork…"

Their gazes met. Shock. Shame. A silent understanding.

They had all been instruments in the Siren Queen's orchestra.

They were the melody. They were the weapons. And they'd nearly destroyed each other under her will.

Scene: Fog Begins to Clear

A quiet wind spiraled through the ruins—not natural, but cleansing. Like something sacred had shifted.

The mist began to peel away, layer by layer, until color returned to the world.

Shojiro looked down at the claw marks and bruises covering his chest. He remembered clawing himself open trying to get the "song" out.

"I almost crushed someone… I remember screaming but it wasn't me."

Max rested a hand on his shoulder.

"She's gone. We're still us."

Enme wiped her face with the back of her sleeve, cheeks flushed with embarrassment.

"Let's… never talk about the dancing again."

Karl dragged himself upright, armor dented.

"Deal."

Scene: A Crack in the Village Wall

They heard it before they saw them.

Footsteps—staggering, slow, but steady. From beyond the broken gate, two shapes emerged through the lifting mist.

Morgz limped forward, his eyes glassy but recovering.

And beside him… Leone. Arms folded tightly, as though trying to hold herself together. Her eyes downward. Her aura different. Sharper. Colder. Alive.

Everyone froze.

Karl's mechanical eye zoomed slightly.

Max tilted his head.

Enme blinked slowly, recognizing the power trailing behind Leone like a second shadow.

Shojiro narrowed his gaze.

"Wait a second…"

Leone looked up—and locked eyes with him.

Scene: A Familiar Face

Her breath hitched.

Her mouth opened and closed twice before any sound came out.

"S-Shojiro… Momo?!"

Shojiro stepped forward cautiously.

"You… know me?"

She squeaked, shrinking behind her bangs.

"W-we went to the same high school! I—I sat behind you in third-year math! I once b-borrowed your eraser a-and you smiled at me! I-I was always backstage during assemblies—w-watching from the curtains!"

Shojiro blinked hard.

"Wait. You're the one who left ghost stickers on my bag?"

Her face turned nuclear red.

"I-I had the biggest crush on you, Shojiro!"

The whole squad went dead silent.

Max's lightning audibly sparked out of sheer secondhand tension.

Karl muttered:

"...I thought I dropped bombs."

Max:

"She's speedrunning the confession arc. Respect."

Scene: Morgz Regains Hearing

In the quiet background… Morgz gasped.

He heard the world again. His ears tingled. A dull hum returned—the resonance of Yggdrasil syncing back into his body now that the Siren Queen's trance had broken.

But the first thing he heard… was Leone's confession.

"I had the biggest crush on you, Shojiro!"

Morgz fell to his knees.

"I wasn't even deaf for five minutes…"

He looked up at the sky, soul shattered.

"Poseidara… why revive me, bro… just to watch me lose to a dude with muscles for days…"

Max walked over, patting him on the back.

"Don't worry man. You just need a tragic beach episode."

Morgz:

"THAT'S YOUR ADVICE?!"

Scene: Shojiro's Gentle Answer

Leone was melting.

"I-I-I didn't mean to yell it! I-I—I just got excited seeing you—"

Shojiro walked forward, gently placed a hand on her head, and smiled.

"I'm glad you're alive. And I'm glad you're with us now."

She blinked. Once.

Then launched upward and kissed him on the cheek before even realizing what she was doing.

Shojiro froze.

So did everyone else.

Even Karl's visor short-circuited from emotional overload.

Leone blinked in horror.

"...W-W-W-WHAT DID I JUST DOOOOO!?"

She dropped to her knees and covered her face in both hands.

"I'M SO SORRY I CAN'T BELIEVE I—I RESET TIME PLEASE I NEED A DO-OVER—"

Karl:

"Yo, Shojiro. Your face just upgraded to cherry tomato."

Max:

"Flag raised. Ship confirmed."

Scene: A New Voice Awakens

As the group collectively teased Shojiro and comforted Leone… something changed inside her.

She froze.

Her body trembled—more violently than before. Her heart pounded. But not from panic.

From resonance.

Inside her chest, where the Siren Queen's last essence had tried to worm its way in during the battle… there was now a new pulse. A new voice.

And then—her throat burned.

Everyone stepped back as Leone clutched her neck. For a second, her form flickered between Phantom and Spectre—then stabilized.

A glowing rune spiraled across her clavicle like ink.

And she screamed.

But this was not a cry of pain. It was a Banshee's Wail.

The wind exploded outward. Leaves tore from trees. The earth cracked beneath her feet. Sound spiraled in all directions like a silent detonation.

But the scream didn't hurt them. It passed through the Chosen harmlessly. Instead—it carved through the air, through residual fog, through the last traces of the Siren Queen's melody buried in the land.

It was a cleansing scream. A dominance of voice.

And when she stopped—

Silence again. But this time… it felt earned.

Shojiro stepped forward, eyes wide.

"That… wasn't just any power…"

Leone looked down at her palms, shaking.

"I think… I stole the Siren Queen's voice."

Max:

"So… now you've got the crush, the kiss, and the banshee scream?"

Karl:

"She's officially got main heroine energy."

Morgz muttered behind them.

"I swear to Poseidara, if she gets theme music before I do…"

Scene: Leone's Official Introduction

Still red, still shaking, Leone took a breath.

"M-my name is Leone Shizuku. Former actress. Class… Shifter. I died protecting my film crew during a Crack appearance… and woke up in the Celestial Realm. My Primordial is… Thanamira, Primordial of Spirits."

Max gave a dramatic bow.

"Welcome to the team."

Shojiro smiled.

"You already saved us once. I think you're gonna fit right in."

Leone nodded slowly, hands folded over her chest.

"Th-thank you…"

Karl clapped a hand on Morgz's shoulder.

"C'mon, bro. You lived. You screamed. You got hugged. That's a win."

Morgz:

"Yeah… but I didn't get a cheek kiss."

Enme:

"You want one from Max?"

Morgz:

"NO I—WAIT, NO—WAIT, MAYBE—"

Everyone burst out laughing.
