Chapter 30: Chapter 23 - End of the Line
"With all our power… we still can't create roads that don't exist."
Scene – Morning Departure
As sunlight filtered through the soft green hue of Enme's barrier, the Chosen slowly stirred awake.
Shojiro (stretching):
"Damn. That might've been the best sleep I've had since… ever."
Max (groggy):
"Slept like a corpse. Which is ironic."
Morgz (yawning):
"Where's my water?"
Karl stands up and cracks his neck, metallic joints clicking into place.
Then, with a deep mechanical breath—
KSHHHHH—BOOM. His body shifts, plates grinding and folding, wires weaving as he transforms into his Chariot Mode — armored wheels, thrusters, and open hatch gleaming in the morning light.
Enme (eyebrow raised):
"…I have to go inside you?"
Karl (in Chariot form):
"Yeah. What, never been in a luxury ride forged from science and vengeance?"
Enme (deadpan):
"Tch. Don't make it weird."
She hops inside the cabin, adjusting the shoulder strap and placing her shield beside her, glancing out of the tinted nanite window.
"Let's get this over with."
Scene – The Journey Toward China
The terrain races by as Karl speeds forward — meadows overtaken by vines, crumbled buildings buried beneath ash, the occasional corpse of a demon lying forgotten in the road.
Inside the Chariot: Shojiro rests with his arms crossed. Max scans the skies for black clouds. Morgz looks at maps that no longer matter. Enme watches silently, chewing on a protein bar she hates but tolerates.
Karl's adaptive AI chimes softly:
"Approaching target border: Central China. Estimated arrival: 12 minutes."
Scene – The Dead End
Suddenly — the engine halts. The vehicle slows. The road ends. Abruptly.
Before them lies a crumbling cliffside, the rest of the road completely obliterated, buried under demon-corrupted earth and fractured tectonic plates.
Karl (normal form, stepping out):
"What the hell…"
Shojiro:
"No road. No path. No way through."
Max (checking the horizon):
"This wasn't a collapse. This was on purpose."
Morgz (squinting):
"Fog ahead. Could be cursed... or acidic."
Enme (placing her palm to the ground):
"The realm barrier's warped here. What's past this point... doesn't belong to Earth."
Final Moments of the Chapter
The five Chosen stand at the edge of the world — road behind them full of loss and victory, the unknown ahead writhing in a silent, unnatural mist.
"There's no path? Then we make one. With fists. And friendship."
Recap: The road to China is gone. The cliff drops into corrupted ocean and mist. Maps? Useless. Terrain? Impossible.
But the Chosen? Unbothered.
Dialogue & Action Begin:
Shojiro (cracking his neck):
"…Screw this. Teamwork is dreamwork."
He turns to Karl, who's still in Chariot Mode.
Shojiro:
"Stay in that form. I'm gonna throw your ass."
Karl (mechanical voice):
"…Wait what—?"
Shojiro's muscles surge. Bones swell. Veins coil like rope. The ground cracks.
MUSCLE RECONFIGURATION: MAX OUTPUT — FULL BODY TO LEGS.
His lower half turns beastly — calves like siege towers. His pants nearly rip.
JUMP #1. Crater.
Enme (summoning):
"Barrier hop incoming!"
JUMP #2. JUMP #3.
Shockwaves ripple through the clouds. Each leap lands on a barrier platform Enme times with inch-perfect grace.
Karl Takes Over
By the 8th leap, Shojiro gasps, sweat flooding down his neck.
Shojiro:
"G-Go… tag in…!"
Karl:
"Copy that."
ENGINE IGNITION: CHARIOT MODE. VYTHRA THRUSTERS: MAX CHARGE.
He surges forward — flame trails blazing across the sky.
Max's Intervention
Karl begins to dip.
Karl (warning):
"Systems failing. Falling fast—"
Max (already halfway out):
"Then let's go out loud."
BLACK OVERDRIVE: POWER INFUSION.
Max slams his palm to Karl's hull. Lightning rips through the nanite frame — recharging the core, reigniting the thrusters.
BOOM.
Karl surges again. Max, though, slumps... eyes rolling back.
Morgz's Final Boost
Altitude wanes.
Morgz raises a glowing hand over the ocean.
OCEAN RECOIL CANNON: UNDERBODY SURGE.
A geyser of high-pressure seawater explodes upward, colliding with the chariot's underbelly like a hydro-punch from Poseidon.
WHOOSH!
The Landing
The Chariot slams into the cliffside. Skids. Crashes. Bounces. Finally skids to a stop, smoking.
The boys are motionless. Groaning. Dazed.
Shojiro (face down):
"…Did we make it?"
Enme (from inside, wheezing):
"Yeah… but your head hit my chest. I better not be bruised."
Shojiro (blinking):
"Huh? Wait, wha—OH SH—"
Max (peeking over):
"Yo... that bounce gave us physics. I saw jiggle. I definitely saw jiggle."
Morgz (gasping):
"Tell my parents I died seeing heaven."
Karl (mechanical voice glitching):
"Rebooting… Thigh contact detected. …System shame at 84%."
Enme (blushing, kicking the door open):
"You perverts are lucky I'm tired. If I had energy, you'd all be hexed."
Shojiro (coughing):
"We almost died! Let a man dream…"
Scene — Aftermath of the Crash Landing
The crater smoked. Chunks of shattered stone still bounced down the slope as Karl's chariot form lay half-buried in cracked cement. One by one, the others began to groan.
Shojiro, eyes dazed, stirred first.
Except… he didn't feel the cold floor.
His face was warm. Soft. Somehow… springy.
His eyes blinked open—and immediately widened in horror.
His head was buried between Enme's chest, one hand sunk deep against her side. His nose nudged bare skin beneath a torn strap of her top.
Shojiro froze.
Max, lying flat nearby, stared with a wide open mouth.
The jiggle physics… they weren't a myth.
He'd seen gods. But never anything so holy.
"I…" Max coughed, blood dripping from one nostril. "I'm never forgetting that bounce. I saw enlightenment. It jiggled."
Karl groaned as he powered down from Chariot Mode, his human half barely functional—only to fall directly across Enme's lap and slam chest-first into her stomach.
His face smacked against the same impact zone Shojiro was currently being smothered by.
His voice glitched.
"Softness… acquired. Rebooting spiritual integrity."
Enme's face twitched. For once, her usual iron expression wavered.
Then Morgz tumbled in last, crashing into her knees—both arms accidentally hooking around her thighs.
His head landed between them, and he didn't move.
For a few seconds, no one moved.
Then Enme's breath caught in her throat.
Her cheeks, pale from exhaustion, darkened visibly. Not from anger. From pure, frozen disbelief.
"You've gotta be kidding me…"
She pushed Shojiro's head away with one hand, slapped Karl off her waist with the other, and kicked Morgz square in the gut.
He rolled away like a stunned cat.
"None of you saw anything," she snapped, voice tight.
Max groaned.
"I saw everything. In 4K. With HDR lighting."
Karl still lay stunned, twitching faintly.
"Logging impact data. Physics… confusing. Reanalyzing bounce velocity."
Shojiro, still red in the face, stood up and kept his back to everyone.
"I didn't mean to. I swear on all protein."
Enme stood slowly, brushing dust from her side, eyes avoiding everyone's. Her voice was quiet now. Strained.
"I don't get flustered. I don't. I'm not some soft idol girl."
Nobody said anything.
She cleared her throat.
"But if you ever… say a word about this again, I will seal your mouths shut for eternity. Got it?"
Morgz, still wheezing on the ground, raised a weak hand. "Worth it."
Shojiro, still facing away, whispered under his breath.
"I… I smelled vanilla. I think I tasted afterlife."
Enme covered her face with one arm, silently screaming into her sleeve.
Then she muttered under her breath:
"…I swear to god I should've just stayed dead."
No VYTHRA. No food. No strength. But they made it to China.
"No path? No problem. The Chosen make paths."
