CALAMITY : Legends Of The Chosen

Chapter 18: Chapter 14 - Death Beneath Glass

"Thirteen Minutes of Air"

"When the ocean turns against you, there is no up, no down — only pressure, and panic."

Scene 1 The Train Implodes

The Abyssal Train detonated in a violent, crushing rupture. The rail tunnel crumpled like paper against the pressure of the sea, and molten shrapnel was flung into the black abyss.

Max had tried to hold the core stable. Karl had rerouted power. Shojiro had kept the Conductor pinned till the last second.

None of it mattered.

Shojiro (gasping):

"We didn't make it…"

Karl slammed the emergency nanite orb into the trench floor.

FOOOOMP.

A dome of microscopic machines expanded, holding back the full weight of the Pacific. But it was flickering. Cracking.

Karl (screaming):

"CLOAK INITIATED. SEALING. I BOUGHT US… MAYBE… THIRTEEN MINUTES!"

The shield sealed around them.

But outside?

No light. No noise.

Just pressure. Death pressing in from every side.

Scene 2 Inside the Dome

They dropped to their knees.

Shojiro's knuckles were blue.

Max was trembling, lightning sparks shorting from his spine.

Karl's internal systems flickered red — critical temperature, critical air, critical structural integrity.

RIDA's voice, soft and broken, echoed from a backup shard in Karl's wrist.

RIDA:

"...Oxygen reserves... low. Thirteen minutes… no exfil route located..."

Shojiro (shaking):

"I'm not… I'm not supposed to die here."

Karl (hoarse):

"We still had missions. RIDA's gone. And now us..."

Max closed his eyes.

Max (whispers):

"I haven't made peace. I haven't even figured out what I'm fighting for…"

Shojiro suddenly slammed his fist against the dome wall.

Shojiro (furious, desperate):

"I didn't come back to die like this! Not under the ocean. Not in silence."

He was crying, though he'd never admit it. The salt wasn't from the sea.

They all sat. And waited.

The light flickered. Oxygen dropped.

They accepted the end.

Scene 3 The Ocean Opens

Then it came.

A pulse of turquoise light descended from above smooth and warm like moonlight under water.

The trench began to ripple.

Max blinked. He thought it was death.

Shojiro blinked. He thought it was memory.

Karl blinked. He thought it was RIDA's ghost.

But no.

Through the swirling trench came a man.

Not armored. Not glowing.

Just barefoot. Shirtless. And impossibly calm.

He walked across the water like it was land.

As his hand touched the dome, it melted, transforming into breathable liquid.

Scene 4 Morgz Ryuuga Arrives

Morgz:

"Damn. Y'all look like seaweed that lost the will to live."

Shojiro's eyes widened.

Karl's system pinged him as "Unknown Catalyst-Class Signature."

Max (disbelieving):

"Are we… are we dead?"

Morgz (grinning):

"Not yet, sparkplug. But give it five more minutes and yeah, you were headed there."

He lifted his hands.

The trench obeyed.

Water curled around them in a perfect sphere, lifting the three upward, carrying them toward salvation.

Scene 5 The Rise

As they ascended through a trench of demons, shadows began closing in—

Jellymaws circled

Abyss serpents snapped

A mawbeast opened its jaw to swallow the rising sphere

Morgz's fingers twitched.

The sea snapped shut.

He compressed space around them into a tidal distortion, ripping everything nearby into foam.

A clear tunnel opened all the way to the surface.

Scene 6 The Shoreline

They slammed onto the cracked edge of ruined Busan, coughing seawater, eyes blurry, lungs aching.

Shojiro crawled up onto dry ground, shaking.

Karl collapsed, sparks leaking from his suit's vents.

Max rolled over, whispering:

"Are we alive… or is this purgatory with better lighting?"

And then

Morgz stepped into view, shirtless, soaked, but relaxed as hell.

He pulled a kelp strand from his hair, casually wringing water from his fingers like it was just another Tuesday.

Morgz (grinning):

"Alright. Show of hands. Which one of you almost pissed your pants down there?"

Shojiro, still on all fours, groaned:

"Dude… who the hell are you?"

Morgz smirked, cracked his knuckles, and said it like a punchline.

"Name's Morgz Ryuuga. Was a marine biologist. Died in the Mariana Trench when the pressure caved my lungs like a soda can."

"Got resurrected by a sea goddess. Now I breathe currents, wrestle trench serpents, and fold water with my fists."

He gestured toward the fire Max was struggling to light.

The embers hissed uselessly.

Morgz rolled his eyes and snapped his fingers

A tendril of seawater twisted up from the sand and ignited the fire perfectly, oxygenating it with a controlled spiral.

Morgz:

"Oh, and heads-up— if you ever meet a girl Chosen down the line… call dibs for me."

He winked.

"Damn near died twice just getting here. Not going out single again."

Shojiro blinked, too dazed to laugh.

Max coughed a laugh anyway.

Karl (deadpan, still recovering):

"You're ridiculous."

Morgz (stretching with a groan):

"Yeah, well. You're welcome for the rescue, jackasses."

A half-collapsed dock.

Dead whales littered the shore.

But they were breathing. Free.

Max rolled over, coughing up seawater and laughing weakly.

Max:

"Okay… new rule… no more trains."

Karl:

"No more ocean. No more demons. No more near-death heroics."

Shojiro (still shaking):

"I thought I was gone. I thought… that was it."

They were quiet.

Morgz sat nearby, drying his hands.

He didn't speak at first.

Just nodded.

And then:

Morgz:

"Everyone's got a breaking point. I just help push it back."

Scene 7 — What Comes Next

Shojiro stared at the stars above — still fractured.

Karl tuned his sensors, replacing RIDA's remains with a quieter AI core.

Max ignited a fire with lightning sparks.

They were cold. Scarred. But alive.

Morgz:

"You're gonna need me. The ocean's changing. Everything's changing. And I got nowhere else to go."

Shojiro (smiling):

"Then welcome to the war."

Karl (offering a nanite patch):

"You're already on the team. You just don't have the trauma yet."

Max (raising a canteen):

"To Morgz Ryuuga. The last lifeline under the sea."

They clinked canteens.

Fire cracked. Waves rolled.
