Building a Conglomerate in Another World

Chapter 140: Scouting for the New House

The morning sun cast a warm glow over the city of Sylvania, its streets bustling with activity as the newlywed couple prepared for their journey. Matthew and Amber Hesh stood on the platform of the central train station, their luggage neatly arranged by a porter. Despite the previous night's grandeur, they were both dressed modestly for the day ahead—Amber in a simple but elegant travel dress, and Matthew in a tailored but practical suit.

"Newport is a beautiful place," Amber said as she adjusted her hat against the gentle breeze. "You'll see why I think it's perfect for us."

"I trust your judgment," Matthew replied, a hint of amusement in his tone. "You haven't steered me wrong yet."

The whistle of the approaching train cut through the air, and the couple stepped forward. The engine pulled into the station with a hiss of steam, its polished exterior gleaming. They boarded a private compartment reserved for their journey, finding plush seats and a small table already set with tea and biscuits.

As the train began to move, Matthew glanced out the window, watching the city give way to the countryside. The sprawling urban landscape slowly transitioned into rolling hills and green fields.

"Do you already have a house in mind?" Matthew asked, turning his attention to Amber.

She nodded. "I spoke to an agent before the wedding. They've prepared several options for us to view. Newport is known for its coastal charm and modern homes. I think we'll find something special there."

Matthew sipped his tea thoughtfully. "I'm looking forward to seeing it. A proper home of our own—it feels like the next step."

Amber smiled.

The train pulled into Newport station a few hours later. The town greeted them with a refreshing breeze carrying the faint scent of saltwater. Newport's charm was immediately evident in its clean streets, elegant lampposts, and rows of well-maintained buildings. Horse-drawn carriages shared the roads with the occasional automobile, signaling the town's embrace of both tradition and modernity.

At the station, they were met by a sharply dressed man in his late thirties. He tipped his hat as he approached.

"Mr. and Mrs. Hesh, a pleasure to meet you. I'm George Whitaker, your real estate agent," he introduced himself with a practiced smile.

"A pleasure, Mr. Whitaker," Amber replied, extending her hand politely. "Thank you for arranging this on such short notice."

"It's my job, Mrs. Hesh. Newport is proud to offer some of the finest properties in the region. I've selected a few homes that I believe will suit your tastes and needs. Shall we begin?"

Matthew and Amber nodded, and Whitaker led them to a waiting automobile parked outside the station. It was a sleek vehicle with polished brass accents, a chauffeur already in the driver's seat.

Their first stop was a stately two-story home on the outskirts of town. The house sat on a large plot of land, surrounded by neatly trimmed hedges and blooming gardens. Its white exterior and large bay windows gave it an inviting appearance.

Whitaker gestured to the house as they exited the automobile. "This is one of Newport's finest. Four bedrooms, a study, and a spacious kitchen. It also comes with a separate guesthouse at the back."

Amber walked up the cobblestone path, her eyes scanning the details. "It's lovely," she said, glancing at Matthew.

Matthew followed her inside, where the interior revealed polished wooden floors and high ceilings. The large windows let in plenty of natural light, giving the home a bright and airy feel. The study was lined with built-in bookshelves, and the kitchen was equipped with modern appliances.

"It's impressive," Matthew admitted. "But..."

Amber raised an eyebrow. "But?"

"It feels a little too formal," Matthew said. "I'd like something more... cozy. Something that feels like a home rather than an estate."

Amber smiled. "I see what you mean. Let's see the next one."

Their second stop was closer to the coast. The house was a charming stone cottage with a thatched roof and ivy climbing up its walls. It had a smaller yard but offered a stunning view of the ocean.

"This one's quite different," Whitaker said as they stepped out of the automobile. "Three bedrooms, a study, and a fireplace in the main sitting room. The beach is just a short walk away."

Amber's eyes lit up as she took in the view. "This is beautiful," she said.

Inside, the house was warm and inviting, with exposed wooden beams and a stone hearth in the living room. The sound of waves could be heard faintly through the open windows.

Matthew leaned against the doorway of the sitting room. "It does have a certain charm," he said. "But it might be a little small for entertaining."

Amber nodded. "True. It's lovely, but I think we should keep looking."

The last house on their tour was perched on a hill overlooking Newport. It was a blend of traditional and modern design, with a brick exterior and large glass windows that offered panoramic views of the town and the ocean.

"This is my personal favorite," Whitaker said as they approached. "Four bedrooms, a study, a large kitchen, and a spacious garden. It's private but not isolated, and the view speaks for itself."

Amber and Matthew explored the house together. The interior was a perfect balance of elegance and comfort, with polished wooden floors, a grand staircase, and a modern kitchen. The study was lined with windows, offering a view of the garden.

Amber turned to Matthew, her expression hopeful. "What do you think?"

Matthew walked to one of the large windows, looking out over the town. "It's perfect," he said. "It feels like home."

Amber smiled. "Then this is the one."

After finalizing the decision, Whitaker escorted them back to the automobile. "I'll handle the paperwork and ensure the house is ready for you within the week," he assured them.

"Thank you, Mr. Whitaker," Amber said. "You've been very helpful."

"It's been my pleasure," Whitaker replied with a tip of his hat.

As the automobile made its way back to the station, Amber leaned her head on Matthew's shoulder. "I think we made the right choice," she said.

Matthew placed a hand over hers. "I know we did. This is the start of something new—for both of us."

Amber smiled, closing her eyes as the sound of the automobile's engine hummed in the background. For the first time in days, she felt a sense of peace. Their future was beginning to take shape, and together, they were ready to face it. Discover more content at My Virtual Library Empire
