Chapter 52: Chapter 52: Black Rock City
The Chu Yun Empire wasn't too far from the Tagor Desert. Even though Xiao Yan used his Dou Qi Wings for the journey, it still took him quite a bit of time. He didn't rush straight into the desert, though. Instead, he stopped in a nearby city called Black Rock City to stock up on supplies before venturing into the sands.
However, when he stepped into a medicine shop to buy herbs, he was stunned to find that he had nearly exhausted all the gold coins he brought with him. Helpless, he quietly left the shop and found a nearby inn. With what little money he had left, he rented a room, then retrieved several jade bottles from his storage ring and laid them out on the table.
Each of these bottles contained a Tier 4 pill that Xiao Yan had refined in the past. But now, these pills were either useless to him or had already been replaced by better alternatives. So, he figured this was a good opportunity to auction them off and convert them into funds.
After setting down the jade bottles, Xiao Yan hesitated for a moment before taking out a blank sheepskin scroll. He unfurled it and, using the brush provided in the room, began writing line by line. He was transcribing a Profound Rank technique called Mysterious Cauldron Art. Even though it was only a Low Profound Rank technique, it would still fetch a decent price at auction.
"All done." After completing the transcription from memory, Xiao Yan exhaled softly. He looked at the scroll, his eyes tinged with nostalgia. This Mysterious Cauldron Art had been the very first Profound Rank technique he practiced in his previous life when he was still weak and unknown.
Although, in his current eyes, it was no doubt garbage, it had played a major role in helping him grow early on. Of course, he also had plenty of other techniques he could copy, even Earth Rank and Heaven Rank ones, including some high-tier techniques he had created himself. But those were too valuable to be sold in a place like this. Selling one here would only attract greedy and powerful eyes, plunging Black Rock City—and possibly the entire Jia Ma Empire—into chaos.
So for safety's sake, Xiao Yan settled on the Mysterious Cauldron Art.
Once the ink dried on the scroll, he rolled it up, packed it with the jade bottles into a small bundle, and put on a black cloak that covered his entire body. Only then did he head out toward the local branch of the Miteer Auction House.
The Miteer Auction House was the largest in the Jia Ma Empire, with branches in every city. Naturally, Black Rock City had one too. In fact, its scale was much grander than the one in Wu Tan City—fitting, since Black Rock City itself was far more prosperous.
Upon entering the auction house, Xiao Yan casually glanced around before heading toward the appraisal chamber. Unlike the noisy outer hall, the room inside was quiet and refined. He sat down at an appraisal counter, facing a curvy woman in red. She offered a professional smile as she glanced at the black-robed Xiao Yan.
"Welcome, sir. Are you here for an appraisal?"
"Yes," Xiao Yan replied with a light nod.
He brushed his ring slightly, and several jade bottles suddenly appeared on the table. Seeing them, the red-dressed woman blinked in mild surprise. Carefully, she picked up one of the bottles and opened the cap. Upon seeing the contents, her expression briefly stiffened. "Pills?"
"Evaluate these for me. I want to know what they're worth," Xiao Yan said in a low, hoarse voice—deliberately altered to sound different from his natural tone.
"Understood." The woman pulled out a set of tools and began examining each pill with great care. After a few minutes, she looked back up at Xiao Yan with a faint trace of reverence in her eyes.
"Sir, all of these pills are Tier 4. Among them are three Qi Gathering Powder pills, each of which could fetch at least 200,000 gold coins. There are also five Beast Strength Pills, which should bring in about 700,000 total. But the most valuable are the two Purple Heart Barrier-Breaking Pills. Together, those alone could go for over a million!"
She paused before adding respectfully, "If all goes well, your collection could earn nearly 2.5 million gold coins."
"Good. Can you arrange to have them auctioned as soon as possible?" Xiao Yan asked. He was quite satisfied—these pills, mostly useless to him now, could net him a hefty sum.
"Of course. We're holding an auction in half an hour, and we'll prioritize your items," the woman replied dutifully.
"I also have a scroll to include." Xiao Yan handed over the Mysterious Cauldron Art. With this addition, he estimated he could earn at least three million gold coins—more than enough to buy what he needed.
After submitting the pills and the scroll, Xiao Yan prepared to leave, but the red-dressed woman called out to him again.
"Sir, our auction is about to begin. Would you like to attend?"
"Since I'm here, I might as well," Xiao Yan said with a smirk. He had nothing better to do, and there was always a chance he might stumble upon something rare or useful.
"In that case, this is a VIP pass from our Miteer Auction House. Holders of this card receive special treatment and access to a private suite," she said as she carefully stored away the items. Then she handed him a crystal card emblazoned with the Miteer family crest.
Xiao Yan stared at the card for a moment, remembering that after beating up Hai Bodong in his previous life, he had looted a similar card—one that looked a bit more refined than this one. 'Could that old guy have had connections with the Miteer Auction House?'
Shaking the thought away, he accepted the card and followed the red-clad woman to a private VIP suite inside the auction house.
