Chapter 292
The two-month winter break was coming to an end, and today was the last weekend of the break. The new semester would start in two days, and a week after that, it would be graduation.
“It was fun.”
“Yes, it was great.”
“I don’t think we missed anything.”
“Probably not.”
I quietly sat there, sipping the tonic as if it were a vitamin, while my girlfriends laughed and shared their impressions. I had long since become accustomed to the taste and smell of the tonic.
Erestika had not been exaggerating when she said she had raided the Imperial Treasury. I had been drinking the tonic six times a day for over two months, and there was still nearly half of it left.
At first, they had planned to make me drink it all, which was even more terrifying. If that had happened, I would have had to drink the tonic instead of water to survive.
“Mira, what about you? Did you enjoy it?”
Rosalia, who had been laughing and chatting with the others, suddenly turned to me with a question. The others also turned to look at me.
“Yes, I did.”
“What do you mean?”
“….In many ways.”
My body was tired, and my mind was exhausted, so there was no way I could be unhappy as a man. I had done it countless times over the past weeks, and there was no way I could be unhappy.
I would continue to do so in the future, which was a drawback.
“It’s a little disappointing that we won’t be able to do this as often when the new semester starts. I’ll have to ask the Emperor to fill up the treasury again.”
Erestika hugged me and stroked my head, expressing her disappointment. It was fortunate that she was only hugging me with her chest, and not her whole body, as usual.
Now that the others were looking, she was trying to act casual, even though she didn’t really care.
“Hmm… I don’t think it matters. Anyway, you’ll only have to wait a week until you graduate, so you can still come to the club room.”
“Yes. I’ll only have to endure for a week, so it will be fine.”
Just as Rosalia and Nika had said, nothing would change drastically when I graduated. To be precise, nothing would change drastically compared to what we had been doing during the break. We would just be playing all day.
After I graduated, Laura and Rosalia, who had already been doing so as a saint, would continue to do so.
“It’s still a shame that we won’t be able to eat together at the school cafeteria.”
“Don’t worry. We’re discussing the use of the facilities. That’s why I’ve been going to the Academy so often.”
There had been a lot of debate about whether or not I would be able to use the facilities of the Academy after I graduated.
Some argued that I should not be allowed to use them after graduation, while others argued that I should be allowed to use them until I completed the three years I was supposed to attend. Some even suggested that I should be treated the same as Rosalia, and others said it was absurd to compare me to the saint.
Rosalia snorted at the last comment.
“They don’t know anything. You’re much stronger than I am, Mira.”
“The saint is a symbolic figure. It has nothing to do with physical strength.”
The saint, who had been called the last hope of humanity, was surprisingly not very strong herself. The fact that she had pushed the front line further than humans had pushed it for a hundred years was proof of how powerful her real-time healing was.
The morale of the soldiers was also boosted by the presence of the saint, but the key was her real-time, wide-area, continuous healing.
“But you’re doing all the tanking, healing, and support by yourself. Ah, you’re also doing the solo mid and solo ADC.”
“…. .”
In the first world, the mages had been asked to do exactly that. While the soldiers were treated as disposable, the mages did all the damage, healing, and support.
I couldn’t say anything, so I averted my gaze. Rosalia looked triumphant. Laura, who had been watching, spoke up.
“The discussion with my father is over. He has agreed to remain on the throne, reflecting our wishes.”
“Of course he would. He’s even had a rejuvenation. By the way, how will this be announced externally?”
That was the most worrying part.
We had declared that Laura would be the next emperor while investigating the entire imperial nobility to root out Astaroth’s traces, so if we didn’t give up the throne now, all sorts of negative stories would spread.
Laura might be seen as abandoned, or as a man-crazy woman who gave up the throne, or even as being controlled by Mira Craft and his family. None of these rumors would be good for me or the Craft family.
“We haven’t finalized the details yet, but we have a rough idea. We plan to hold a little show.”
“A show?”
Laura nodded.
“We have a saint, a hero, and a goddess. With these three, we can convince the people. We’ll just set up a framework, and the rest will be filled in by the imperial citizens.”
“….Yes.”
The three of them had the power and authority to convince people that the sun rose in the west. If they said that the sun rose in the east, people would call anyone who disagreed a heretic.
The three of them had the power and the authority to do so. The saint and the hero would agree, and the goddess would directly descend and confirm it. Who would dare to disagree?
“This is unfair. Why do we have to study while you guys have all the fun?”
Elysier grumbled. Of the people here, only the three of them would have to study when the new semester started.
Elysier, Priscilla, and finally, Karna.
“Haha… It’s fine. It’s not like I’m doing terribly.”
Karna, who had been briefly visiting and was caught, chose to join us instead of leaving. She smiled awkwardly.
It might be a bit unfair for Karna. I had freed her from the life of a killer, and she had just transferred to the Academy with me, only to graduate in one semester.
“I don’t mind. As long as I don’t fail, it’s fine.”
For Priscilla, the third year was the real challenge. In her hundreds of loops, the third year did not exist.
The Academy was always turned into a mess by the demon invasion, Erestika went missing, and Laura died, starting the journey of the second volume.
“For transfer students like us, the passing grade is quite high.”
“Then just fail and get expelled. Anyway, it’s better without Mira, isn’t it?”
“Oh…”
Elysier began to seriously consider the idea, but Leona looked at him with a puzzled expression.
“Oh, what do you mean, oh? If you guys fail and get expelled, it will reflect badly on Mira. Do you want to ruin his image?”
“I agree.”
Leona and Latina added their opinions. Ironically, both of them didn’t need to study.
One had chosen to graduate, while the other had been an assistant to the saint from the beginning, so she didn’t need to study.
Furthermore, Leona was terrible at theory in the first semester. Aria and I would listen to lectures while Leona dozed off.
“I agree that it would damage Mira’s image. But I don’t want to hear that from people who don’t need to study.”
Elysier knew that as well. The “people who don’t need to study” looked away awkwardly.
“Why don’t you just have Mira graduate three times?”
“Three times?”
Priscilla whined as she clung to me. Erestika was in an awkward position, with her baby in her pocket.
“I don’t mind watching, but it would be a bit much to participate when I’ve already graduated.”
“Why not? It doesn’t matter.”
“It does matter.”
“That sounds like fun. Anyway, the graduation ceremony is always noisy, so why not? We can just use magic to hide our presence and sneak one more person in.”
Laura took the suggestion seriously.
“Ah, can I join too?”
Nika raised her hand and joined in, and the plan quickly grew. As I hesitated, the others quickly came to an agreement, and even Erestika became interested.
Erestika hugged me and joined the discussion. In no time, a conclusion was reached.
Each of us would graduate once, matching our ages, and then we would all graduate together one more time with Elysier and Karna.
“….?”
It seemed a bit odd.
“Of course it’s fine. I’m the chairman, so of course it’s fine. I’ll just ask the magic association humans to set up a perception-disturbing barrier.”
I thought she was joking, but she seemed serious.
As I hesitated, they began to discuss the specifics, and I quietly slipped away. It was better for me to be absent, as everyone else seemed to agree.
“Sir. Excuse me.”
Beatrice approached me, wearing a maid outfit with a shorter skirt than usual, reaching just above her knees. The butterfly knot on the back of her heels remained the same. I had only recently learned that the knot meant what Priscilla and Laura had said.
Beatrice had been wearing it since she became my personal maid.
“What’s the matter?”
“Aria has requested an audience with you, sir. She said she would leave if you didn’t have time, but how would you like to proceed?”
“Aria? That’s unexpected. She’s been avoiding us and only greeting us occasionally when we moved from mansion to mansion these past two months.”
“I know. I was just wondering what to do, so it’s good that she came. Where should I go?”
“She’s waiting for you in the 2nd Audience Room, so just head there.”
As Beatrice finished her sentence, she paused and looked back at me with slightly reddened cheeks.
“Oh, would you prefer a shorter skirt…?”
.
.
.
“It’s been a while, Aria.”
“Mira…”
As I entered the 2nd Audience Room, Aria stood up from the sofa, where she had been waiting anxiously, and her blue eyes shone with a hint of emotion.
“What’s the matter? You’ve been avoiding me, and now you’re asking to see me first. What’s changed your mind?”
“….Because I’ve made up my mind.”
With that, Aria knelt before me.
