Breaking Free, Loving Again -The Flash Marriage with Mr. CEO

Chapter 689: Divorce Letter.

Catrin looked up in his eyes, her brows furrowing a little in frustration.

And just one look, and Idris knew she was not ready to accept it. Not even know.

"Idris, you can't be blaming me," she said, her voice laced with "I just wanted to scare her. To push her enough that she admits her wrong and returns. How could I have known that she would stupidly sign it without any care? I never wanted her to sign those papers. It was just —"

"You didn't want her to sign those papers?" Idris repeated with a scoff, his jaws tight in anger.

"Of course, why would I? She is my daughter. How can I —" She tried to defend her intention.

But just then, Idris snapped at her —loud and sharp. "Then why the hell did you prepare such papers?"

Catrin flinched, struck for a moment. She took a step back instinctively —scared for some reason.

"Why the hell did you bring it up to her today, when you didn't want her to sign them?"

"I … I wanted her to see …"

"What?" He cut in again. "That, how unapologetically controlling you could be to your own daughter?"

"Idris!" Catrin frowned.

"Don't, Catrin," he held his hand up at her. "Just don't. You crossed all the boundaries today, and you don't even hesitate to call yourself her mother. Which mother does that to her own child? Making them sign the letter of severance."

"I am telling you, Idris, I never intended to make her sign it." Catrin still tried to defend herself. "I just wanted her to admit her regret and return to us. How would I have known that she would be so stubborn that she wouldn't care before severing her ties with us?"

"She is not stubborn, Catrin. You are," Idris pointed his finger out.

"Idris, you —"

Before she could speak anymore, Idris turned away from her. She frowned and was about to rebuke him for ignoring her, but just then she heard him call the lawyer's name.

"Mr. Blackwood."

The lawyer immediately responded. Stepping a step forward, he gave a small bow, "Mr. Quinn!"

"Did you bring the papers that I asked you to prepare?"

Lawyer Blackwood hesitated, his gaze shifting to look at Catrin once before returning to Idris to nod subtly. "I prepared it the way you asked me."

Idris nodded, determination clear in his gaze. "Good, then give it to me. We will complete signing it right now."

Catrin didn't understand what they were talking about. She looked completely clueless as she asked, "What papers, Idris? What papers did you ask Mr. Blackwood to prepare?"

However, Idris didn't care to answer. He just stared at the lawyer, waiting for him to retrieve the papers from his bag.

Mr. Blackwood's brows knitted. But because he was their family lawyer, he had to fulfil his duty. Hence, on Idris's say, he once again pulled another document file from his bag before extending it out to hand over.

Idris took it in his hands and casually flipped it open, briefly checking the contents inside. Once he was satisfied, he looked at Robin over his shoulder, giving him a small nod.

Robin understood at once. Stepping forward, he handed him the pen, uncapping it for his ease.

Idris took it and, without any second thought, signed his name at the bottom of the page. Once done, he turned back to Catrin and motioned her subtly to take it. "It's your turn."

Catrin didn't understand. With a frown between her brows, she glanced at the file before taking it to check. "What is this —?" She halted the moment the bold letters written on the first sheet of the file struck her.

Her pupils dilated and her face drained of all colour, turning pale in an instant.

Divorce Letter.

Her knees gave in, and she almost fell on the floor. But at the right moment, Idris held her firm —not out of care or concern, but because of the last remnants of duty that was left between them and their relationship.

She stared up at him, shocked. "What's this, Idris? You are divorcing me?"

Everyone around was stunned. They hadn't realized what the papers were all about until they heard Catrin say it out loud.

"Mr. and Mrs. Quinn are getting a divorce?"

"What's happening? This is big."

"O my God! I didn't see this coming."

Soon, the hall was filled with gasps and whispers. No one has seen this coming. But given that the papers were kept prepared, this had undoubtedly been long in the plans.

Idris held Catrin until she was stable enough to stand. Then, letting her arms go, he gestured to the papers. "Sign them, and we will complete the procedures as soon as possible."

"What's the meaning of this, Idris? You asked Mr. Blackwood to prepare the divorce papers?"

Idris looked at her evenly and nodded. "Yes, and unlike you, I don't intend another thing while acting over one."

She frowned, looking confused. However, his gaze held the clarity that never wavered.

"When I asked Mr. Blackwood to prepare the papers, but every way, I meant to divorce you. So, now, sign them to get over this."

Catrin stared at him as though she couldn't believe it. They weren't the best couple, but Idris has treated her well. He had never treated her this way.

How could he do this to her today?

"Idris, I —"

Before Catrin could say anything, Idris took away her chance.

Turning again to Mr. Blackwood, he said, "I have signed the papers as you have seen. Now, you are responsible for getting it done. If she doesn't agree, arrange for us to meet at the court."

"Idris, how could you —" she tried again, but it was futile for Idris didn't seem ready to give her the chance.

"Did you hear it, Blackwood?"

"Yes, Mr. Quinn," the lawyer nodded.

And with that, Idris didn't linger there anymore. Turning away, he left the hall, his steps echoing against the floor like the final toll of a bell.
