Bound To The Shadow Alpha

Chapter 20: Chapter 20

Alpha Kaelith

"Wow, I can't believe you called me out of a day off you gave me yourself" Ryan strode in casually , taking the chair opposite tfe Alpha's chair " It's either you dont have a heart or you don't have a heart at all"

" I never gave you a day off, Ryan". Alpha Kaelith said, as a matter of fact, raising his head to give him his signature deadpan look.

Ryan clasped his hand, exparatedly" I almost died in your hands, Kae. I need at least on day off to compensate for that and you agreed".

" I didn't, as a matter of fact— I was expecting you here".

Ryan quickly sit up, every hint of playfulness evaporating from his face " Why? Did something happen".

Kaelith rests his hand in his chin before facepalming himself. Ryan could see how exhausted he looks and he knew something was up. There was black bag under his eyes and a little stumble growing on his cleave shaved face. He looked — disheveled. Which is quite an uncommon word that should be associated with Kaelith.

"Agatha..." He took a deep breath in before continuing " That tea she served me that night — it was poisoned". His eyes watched Ryan reaction as he said those words.

Ryan looked shocked for a second before bursting into laughter " What— what are you suggesting? That she poisoned your tea? Man, you know Agatha since like you were what...a toddler?. It's not possible, you're probably mistaken".

He cleared his throat, relaxing on the chair. Ryan reaction was just as he expected — he finds it absurd too...that Agatha would do such a thing but he can't be too sure. " I want you to watch her every move from now on— don't make it obvious. If she's not the one that poisoned it, then it'll be one of the workers. I have my suspicious on one in particular ".

"Who?". He side eyed me, like he already knows who I'm talking about.

" It doesn't matter. I'll keep an eye on her myself". He quickly dismissed him, not ready to start talking about her. No matter how much he tried to deny it, she's the real reason why he couldn't get any ounce of sleep last night.

"Wha— what if you find out it was Agatha indeed". Ryan asked this question, driven by curiosity but Kaelith's reply had shiver running down his spine

" I won't spare her".

________

Did I ever say Arla was cute? I take it back — SHE IS NOT CUTE. She's a menace — a shopping menace. We've been to about 5 different stores, picked several...I mean several clothes, jewelries, accessories and she's still not yet satisfied.

Her eyes lits up whenever we come across a boutique store and tfe next thing is, she's going in. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't match her excitment. The town is way bigger and larger than I expected so going around is hella tiring.

" Ughhhh, tell me this is the last store we are going to. I swear Arla, I'm going to faint here". I'm sure Felix could relate with all those bag hanging on his hand but the guy had barely said a word since we reached the town. I don't even think I recall him saying more than two words before we even left.

" This is the last one, I promise". Her doe eyes went all sparkling and I cursed internally, damn that doe eyes. She definitely know the effect it has on people.

" Last one" I tried to sound as strict as I could but it's difficult keeping a straight face in front of someone as energetic as her. She squealed in excitment before rushing into the store.

I groaned " Slow down ". I quickly caught the door before it slams shut

When I finally made my way inside, I bumped into a stiff Arla who had paused right in the middle of the store, staring ahead. " Hey, what's wro—". My eyes widen up a fraction when I've finally caught what caught her attention.

Gamma Alex.

Before she could turn and notice us, I quickly grabbed Arla's hand and ducked behind a mannequin. Shit! Don't tell me she's part of the....

"That...what is she doing here?". Arla was fuming beside me, an unfamiliar expression on her face. Ok, at least I understand why I hate her but why is Arla also looking at her like she's about to snap her head into two.

She was obviously waiting for someone as she stands in front of the counter, chewing gum loudly. Shouldn't she be also working like me? Well my answer was answered when an older man came out from the restroom and hug her from behind. From here, I could see her gremace before she turned to him with an obvious fake smile on her face.

I couldn't hear their conversation from where we were hiding but the man soon settled the bills and they both left the store, hugging.

"Woww...Alex definitely don't lag behind. She has already found an honey pot so fast". Arla stood up, cocking her hand on her hips.

I looked up in surprise, amused at this new side of her. " Wow, this is new". I playfully nudge her, dusting non existence dust from my clothes.

She blushed furiously, suddenly avoiding my eyes. I chuckled at her reaction before adding " But I like it". With a little wink to emphasize my words.

She chuckled awkwardly, scratching her neck but I didn't fail to notice how her blush got deeper into another shade of red.

" But on a serious note, what do you have against her? I saw the way you were looking at her— so murderous". I shivered slightly, imagining what it'll be like being at the receiving end if that glare.

" My dad cheated on my mom with her. That's the reason my parents lives separately".

" Wow, that's—"

The bell above the door jingled, cutting me off mid-sentence.

I turned, curious and partly expecting Gamma Alex.

But it wasn't her. Beta Ryan stepped in first, all casual and confidence like he owned the place.

And then....

My breath caught.

Following closely behind him, towering, calm and unreadable as always...

Alpha Kaelith.
