chapter 48
Even though it was broad daylight, the room was completely dark. Blinds covered every window, tightly blocking out the sunlight.
Heewon quietly locked the door handle and turned around. As he took a step forward, his breath suddenly caught. He instinctively steadied himself by placing a hand on the wall.
Wow… what is this?
His knees trembled uncontrollably. The pheromones filling the space gripped Heewon’s lungs with a crushing force. This was a whole different level from the Alpha pheromones he had experienced before. The violent aggression was a sincere, lethal desire to kill.
Now Heewon understood why Kwon Youngjae had told him not to come in. This was pheromone intensity no Omega could endure.
A cold sweat broke out over his neck. He barely steadied his breathing and raised his head. In front of him, two Alphas were locked in a fierce battle of wills.
It was fortunate they hadn’t come to blows yet, but just their standoff emitted such intense pheromones that disaster seemed inevitable.
Had Kwon Youngho picked fights for just a day or two? No, the battles Heewon had witnessed before were mere child’s play. Now, with bloodshot eyes, Kwon Youngho looked ready to rip Kwon Youngjae apart.
In contrast, Kwon Youngjae was tactfully analyzing the situation while suppressing Kwon Youngho. Though Kwon Youngho tried to grapple a few times, he was repeatedly blocked and thrown back. This was a man you simply could not touch recklessly.
“You think I’ll just take this? Damn it! You messed with the wrong person!”
Kwon Youngho’s rage only deepened. Apparently accepting he couldn’t win by strength, he began unleashing filthy curses. Starting with “son of a bitch” and “motherfucker,” he spewed a torrent of obscene, blasphemous insults. His frantic shouting was like watching a possessed man.
Heewon secured a safe distance and watched Kwon Youngjae. He already knew there was no place for him here. Fortunately, the thick corner wall provided a sturdy shield. He hid his body, held his breath, and prepared for the worst.
“Still clueless? Kwon Youngho, you’re like a kite with a cut string. You brought this mess on yourself.”
Kwon Youngjae slowly scanned his cousin’s face with piercing eyes. No longer even treating him as kin, he added coldly,
“Instead of venting, how about managing yourself?”
“Think you’ve won, huh? Just because I’m out, you think the company’s yours now?”
“Well, we’ll see about that. But I don’t think you’ll last long.”
“Don’t make me laugh. I’m not dying alone. Even if I burn in hell, I’ll drag you down with me.”
Kwon Youngjae threw a casual, indifferent glance, as if daring him. His relaxed arrogance lit another fire in Kwon Youngho’s gut. The lava-like boiling rage made his bloodshot eyes glare fiercely. The raging Alpha pheromones surged wildly in all directions.
“…Ugh.”
Heewon hid in a corner and gagged. He hurriedly covered his nose with the back of his hand, but there was no escaping Kwon Youngho’s pheromones. Just as he debated leaving,
Kwon Youngho suddenly twisted his upper body. Scanning the surroundings with bloodshot eyes, he stomped to a corner and grabbed something.
“Director! You can’t!”
Seeing Kwon Youngho pick up a fire extinguisher, Heewon dashed forward without hesitation. He grabbed Kwon Youngho’s waist to stop him, but the safety pin had already been pulled.
Ssshhh!
Compressed gas blasted from the nozzle aimed at Kwon Youngjae. White powder exploded instantly, filling the air.
This crazy bastard! Kwon Youngho was clearly out of his mind. What if he ~Nоvеl𝕚ght~ choked and died? Heewon coughed violently as the fine powder filled his lungs but kept tightening his grip on Kwon Youngho’s waist.
“Arrgh! Fuck!!”
In a frenzy, Kwon Youngho dropped the extinguisher. The room was already a mess, filled with smoke-like powder, making it impossible to see Kwon Youngjae anywhere. The only sign he was alive were the coughing sounds.
Through the thick haze, Heewon groped his way toward the door, desperate to call for help. Reaching the door, he grabbed the handle, but a strong hand seized his shoulder, spinning him around before he could react.
“Secretary Kim, just in time. I had a lot to say to you anyway.”
“Director Kwon, ugh, uh!”
Kwon Youngho pressed hard on Heewon’s throat and shoved him against the wall. Looking down at Heewon’s pale face, Kwon Youngho’s eyes burned with vicious fury, strangely flashing.
“Park Chandae PD? That’s your senior from university? You sneaky bastard. You thought you could pretend and get away with it?”
“Ugh, kuh!”
“I’m going to make you pay extra special attention.”
As if intending to kill Heewon, he squeezed harder. The cracking sound was chillingly like a fracture in the neck bones.
Deadly pheromones poured from his body like dozens of sharp needles stabbing through Heewon. His shoe heels slipped and stumbled on the slick floor. He struggled to bite Kwon Youngho’s hand off but to no avail.
“Ugh, hngh!”
A faint metallic blood smell rose from his throat. He couldn’t tell if his choking was from the strangulation or the vicious pheromones. His vision blurred, veins throbbed wildly in his neck, and his eyes rolled back. His knees gave out as his body slid down the wall.
Suddenly, Kwon Youngho’s collar was violently grabbed from behind. Kwon Youngjae slammed his large frame down, pressing his angry chest onto Kwon Youngho with his knee. With a heavy thud, Kwon Youngho’s face was forced downward. The force of the punches was devastating, speckling blood across the white floor.
Kwon Youngho coughed up thick blood mixed with broken tooth fragments.
“Damn it, if you’re going to lose your mind, at least do it gracefully.”
Kwon Youngjae’s voice was low and subdued, yet filled with unfathomable rage. Like a tightly drawn bowstring about to snap, his anger crushed the air with a chilling weight.
Beaten evenly on both cheeks, Kwon Youngho twitched weakly then went limp. Kwon Youngjae left the unconscious man and rose to his feet, quickly going to check on his own man.
“Secretary Kim. Snap out of it.”
No matter how much he called, Heewon’s whole body trembled uncontrollably, unable to respond. His face was pale and lifeless. The skin Heewon felt was icy cold.
“Kim Heewon!”
Kwon Youngjae slapped him sharply several times in succession and called his name loudly, but Heewon still didn’t open his eyes. Finally, Kwon Youngjae forced Heewon’s eyelids open.
Completely rolled-back whites, wildly beating pulse. Kwon Youngjae knew what this meant: pheromone shock.
Just then, the door opened and security personnel rushed in. Inside the room, covered in white powder like a snowfield, lay two collapsed men. Shock painted the faces of all who entered.
Amid the chaos, only Kwon Youngjae was calm, glaring at the security team and giving precise orders.
“Clear that out.”
The “that” referred to Kwon Youngho. Two burly security guards each slung an arm over Kwon Youngho’s shoulders and dragged him out. The remaining guard stood motionless, waiting for Kwon Youngjae’s next order.
Sighing with exhaustion, Kwon Youngjae pressed his palm to his forehead. His mind was tangled over how to handle the situation. Every small movement scattered more white powder from his body.
“First, open the windows. And can someone bring some water?”
“Yes, Executive Director.”
The security team moved quickly to obey, opening windows wide and fetching two bottles of water, handing them over respectfully.
Kwon Youngjae twisted a bottle cap, paused momentarily, then told the nearest security guard,
“Leave now.”
“Huh?”
“Lock the door and leave. Don’t let anyone in until I say otherwise.”
