Born in Another World With Two E Rank Skills!?

Chapter 58: Chapter 58 Lingering Echoes

Garron's house was as sturdy and spacious as expected of a seasoned adventurer. The spare room they offered Kael was simple but clean—stone walls reinforced with wood beams, a modest bed, and a small desk near a square-paned window.

Kael sat down on the edge of the bed and let out a long sigh.

He whispered, "Status."

The familiar blue screen shimmered into view.

Name: Kael

Level: 43

Unspent Stat Points: 24

Strength: 50

Intelligence: 100

Dexterity: 30

Willpower: 50

Agility: 30

– Magic Bag

– Balen's Sword

– Light Leather Armor

Skills:

– Minor Teleport (Master understanding)

– Omni-Vision (Intermediate understanding)

Kael stared at it, a strange feeling nagging at the back of his mind.

Wait a second... wasn't there a Luck stat before?

He frowned, trying to remember. He could've sworn he saw it back when he first opened his status. But now… nothing. Not even grayed out.

Maybe the system deemed it irrelevant since I didn't invest in it?

The idea that something could vanish from his life simply because he ignored it sent a chill down his spine. He shook the thought off and tapped to allocate his remaining stat points.

First, he placed 10 points into Endurance. His body tingled immediately. The number hit 50, a threshold that triggered a wave of vitality. He could feel it in his lungs, his heart, his muscles. He could probably run a marathon without breaking a sweat.

Then, he added 10 more points into Intelligence, bringing it to 110. As always, every multiple of five and ten in Intelligence brought a noticeable shift. His mind felt clearer, his senses sharper. Information seemed to arrange itself more intuitively—like puzzles solving themselves in real time.

That left him with 4 points unspent, but he decided to hold onto them for now.

Kael closed the status screen. The glow faded, leaving him in soft candlelight.

He laid back, the bed surprisingly comfortable.

But sleep did not come gently.

---

He was back in the hospital.

Cold fluorescent lights flickered overhead. The rhythmic beep… beep… beep of the heart monitor echoed in his ears. Tubes trailed from his arms. His chest rose and fell with mechanical precision.

He turned his head and saw them.

His mother sobbing into his father's shoulder.

His sister—his best friend—clutching his limp hand tightly.

"You died… but we got you back," she whispered, voice trembling.

Kael's lips parted. His throat was raw. "Why?" he rasped. "Why did you bring me back?"

They looked at him, stunned.

"I was happy," Kael said, tears in his eyes. "I wasn't in pain anymore… I wasn't suffering. Why would you drag me back into this awful existence?"

Their faces contorted in horror.

The room blurred, their shapes melting like wax under a heat lamp—

---

Kael jolted awake, drenched in sweat.

The smell of antiseptic still clung to his nose. The echoing beep still rang in his ears.

For a moment, he couldn't breathe.

Then—

Knock knock.

"Kael?" Mira's voice, soft and worried. "Are you okay?"

He swallowed hard. "Yeah. Just a nightmare."

The door creaked open. Mira stepped in—wearing a light nightgown, her hair slightly tousled from sleep. She crossed the room without hesitation and wrapped her arms around him.

Kael froze. His cheeks flushed bright red.

But the hug was… warm. Safe. Not rushed or pitiful like the ones he remembered from his time in the hospital. It was real.

He didn't even know how much he needed it until now.

She held him there for a long moment, her head resting lightly against his shoulder. Then she blinked, realizing her state of dress.

"Oh—uh—g-goodnight!" she stammered, her entire face turning scarlet. She darted out of the room in a flurry of hair and embarrassment.

Kael watched the door close behind her, the warmth of her presence still lingering.

He laid back down slowly, his heart still pounding—but now from something other than fear.

I do love my parents, and my sister. I'd give everything for them...

His chest tightened.

If I weren't in another world… If I hadn't died.

Guilt clawed at him for shouting at them in his dream, even though it wasn't real.

I hope this life is real, he thought, looking up at the dark ceiling. It has to be. The pain was real. So is the kindness.

He inhaled deeply.

The faint scent of Mira's shampoo still clung to the room.

It soothed him.

Finally, Kael drifted into a dreamless sleep.
