Bloodhound’s Regression Instinct

Chapter 5

Chapter 5

After all the work was done.

When Yan arrived at the blood cell, the Roman gang who had agreed to escape with him were standing in front of the cage.

“…”

Tension was visible in the eyes of Roman and the two idiots.

They all knew that they could die in this plan, and it seemed to weigh on their shoulders.

Yan smiled slightly as he looked at them.

They must be burning with anxiety.

“Meet me tonight.”

Yan left a word as he passed them by.

Roman’s eyes lit up, and the other two shuddered.

No matter how confident they were, they still had some fear left.

“Relax a bit.”

Tension should be moderate.

If it’s too severe, the body freezes, and the mind stiffens.

Yan announced the meeting time and walked into his place.

And then he spent the rest of the time as usual.

* * *

3 a.m.

The time when everyone should be asleep, a rustling sound began to be heard here and there.

After a brief moment.

“Are you all awake?”

In the dark where nothing could be seen, someone whispered.

“I couldn’t sleep because of the excitement.”

As Yan’s eyes got used to the darkness, he saw the faces of the people gathered around him.

Unlike Roman, who looked quite happy, Jake and Todd looked like they hadn’t slept.

They had tired faces, but not to the point of causing trouble.

After checking everyone’s condition, Yan nodded.

“Let’s go now.”

By now, the chief warden must have left his post. Maybe he was almost at the palace?

Yan reached out his right hand to the lock beyond the cage.

And then he gently inserted the chopstick into the lock with his left hand and turned it sideways.

Tick. Tick tick.

The sensation of spinning in vain and something loosening repeated.

Then Yan smiled.

Click.

As the lock opened, Jake and Todd, who were skeptical, widened their eyes.

‘Could he open it with that?’

‘What did he do before he came here?’

A skill he learned during his special squad days.

But Yan had no intention of telling them that, so he immediately unlocked the lock and opened the cage.

Squeak. Squeak.

They walked out of the cage slowly, watching their surroundings.

Then Yan took out something like a pocket from his chest.

It was a pocket made of torn clothes.

Yan pulled something out of it.

It was the meat that came out for dinner.

Grr. Grrr.

As the smell of meat spread around, a terrifying howl gathered around.

‘He was right.’

‘How did he know all this?’

They were doubtful until they heard Yan’s escape plan.

How could they believe that the ones guarding the outside were not wardens, but hunting dogs?

They had never heard a dog barking all this time, so the doubt was only bigger… but it turned out that Yan was right.

Grrr. Grrr.

Soon, the hunting dogs appeared.

Black mane and blood-red eyes.

Above all.

‘They’re still stupidly big.’

Compared to Yan now, they were about six times the size.

Yan put the meat he was holding back in his pocket and tied the entrance tightly.

Then he threw it as far as he could.

The dogs also sniffed their noses in that direction and ran after it.

“Uh.”

“Hoo.”

“I thought I was going to die…”

As the big dogs around them disappeared, they finally let out a sigh of relief.

They had definitely bought some time.

They would stop chasing until they tore the pocket and ate all the pieces of meat inside.

“Focus.”

Yan gave a hint to Jake and Todd who were relaxing.

It was not time to relax yet.

They had just opened the way to the bathroom.

This was nothing compared to the obstacles they had to break through.

Yan took the lead and walked to the bathroom where he had been working.

He walked quietly, making no sound of footsteps, and when he arrived at the bathroom, they spat out their heavy breath.

“Hooh!”

“Haa.”

Yan opened the fifth stall and removed the outer wall.

Then a hole he had worked hard on appeared.

“Shall I go in first?”

Yan entered the hole without hesitation, and the three followed him.

* * *

Yan loosened the part of the pipe that he had temporarily blocked yesterday as he passed through the narrow hole.

Soon after the wardens noticed their absence, water would burst out of the pipe.

‘It will take quite a lot of time to clean that up.’

Yan clicked his tongue as he saw the sight of the passage.

There was nothing different from when he had found it in his previous life.

The water was up to his knees, and water dripped from above.

The sound echoed softly in the passage.

The stone wall was intact, but the wooden pillars that were stuck in occasionally were weathered and very old.

From these traces, he could guess that this passage was very old.

“…It’s big. Is it an emergency passage?”

“Probably.”

When he had investigated this passage before, he had no income.

There was no record or information about this place, so he just vaguely assumed that it was an emergency passage used by his previous dragon soldiers.

Splash. Splash.

Yan and Roman walked in front, and Jake and Todd guarded the back.

Jake shivered slightly.

“It’s, it’s creepy.”

“Don’t say unlucky things.”

Todd said that, but he also looked around.

Yan also looked around once in a while as he moved forward.

“You haven’t forgotten about tearing up when we get to the exit, right?”

That’s when it really starts. As he said that, Jake and Todd let out a heavy breath.

A breath mixed with half worry and half excitement.

After that, no one spoke.

Yan was thinking about the plan ahead, and Roman couldn’t tell what he was thinking.

Jake and Todd seemed to be quiet because the two ahead didn’t say anything.

That way, about 10 minutes after they moved.

The exit appeared.

The moonlight that came in through there welcomed them.

“Could we get out so easily?”

Roman said in a hollow voice.

Yan confirmed the mountain behind the exit, looked at the three who were tense, and said.

“It’s just the beginning.”

He had done everything he could for them here.

He also shared all the information they needed to get out of here.

The more they didn’t get caught, the more time he could move freely.

‘The most dangerous guy isn’t here either.’

Yan smiled.

“Let’s never see each other again.”

At that, Roman curled his lips.

“Yeah. If we see each other again, we’ll only die.”

Roman patted Jake and Todd’s shoulders once and ran straight to the mountain.

Yan chuckled at the sight.

‘Anyone would think he’s the one who returned.’

From his speech to his actions. He was a perfect old man.

‘Should I ask him later?’

Jake and Todd also left a word each.

“Thank you. If it wasn’t for you, we couldn’t have gotten out.”

“…L, later, if we happen to meet by chance, can we pretend to know each other?”

Yan laughed as he watched them tear apart in different directions.

And then he started running in a completely different direction.

* * *

Ding ding ding ding ding! Ding ding ding ding!

Emergency bells began to ring like crazy all over the mountain range.

Woof woof! Woof woof woof! Woof woof!

The sound of the hunting dogs raised by the special squad barking ferociously was heard.

“This is where the real start begins.”

How long can they hold on?

Yan spat out a rough breath as he swept his sweat-soaked hair back.

And then he laughed absurdly.

“What am I expecting from just kids.”

He was satisfied if they could delay the time a little bit.

He was confident that he could escape the siege as soon as there was a gap.

No matter how hard it was, and how physically disadvantageous it was, he still had a lot of experience in his head.

Anyway.

What he had to do first.

‘I have to go up first.’

He could see how they would try to chase him if he saw the movements of the pursuers from the top.

Hooeup!

Yan recited the formula of ‘Breath of the Divine Dragon’. The mana dissolved in the air flowed into his body through his throat.

Whirr.

“It’s still efficient, but the maintenance is a problem.”

It was a painful drawback that he couldn’t maintain the mana he had gathered.

It was cramming, but it was fortunate that the hardening technique he had been training steadily helped him.

‘This is something to worry about when I get out.’

There was no way to solve it right now.

Hooong.

Yan started moving, pushing all the mana into his legs.

Paaat.

It looked like he was just walking, but Yan ran down the hillside like a mountain bird.

The swift technique he had accidentally acquired after becoming the special squad leader, ‘The Wing Flap of the Wind Bird’.

Squeak-

Even while running, Yan’s hand did not stop collecting useful things quickly.

They were things that would be useful in the upcoming chase.

That way, after about 10 minutes of moving.

He was able to reach the top of the mountain range.

Yan bit his tongue at the pain that made his legs tremble.

“This damn body is the problem.”

He had just moved that and his legs felt like they were going to explode.

The blood vessels that mana flowed through seemed to have shrunk a little.

He collapsed on a large rock and took out the ‘Silaime Berries’ that he had picked up whenever he saw them.

This was one of the things that the dogs with sensitive noses hated the most.

It was not because of the stench that came from here, but because of the faint toxicity inside.

An item that was very useful in chasing in his previous life.

Yan scratched the surface of the berry with his dagger and squeezed it hard.

A sticky liquid flowed down his fingers and wrists.

Sting, sting.

There was a mild pain where the liquid touched, but Yan rather smeared it on his skin.

“Wasn’t there a similar situation in the past?”

He chuckled and reminisced about the past.

Of course, he was in the position of chasing as a manager then… well, he was confident in this too.

Yan’s mouth corners rose slightly.

“Well, shall we see how good the special squad of the past is now?”

He was the peak of chasing, assassination, and espionage.

The 5th special mission squad leader.
