Bloodbound to the Beastly King

Chapter 75

The sky was dark, it was midnight now and most of the people were already asleep. Elara stood by the fence, eyes darting back and forth. She couldn't afford to be seen standing out here so late at night. She's just gotten her position back.

The door opened and the figure stepped in, the figure was clad in dark cloaks that covered her face.

"You sure took your time getting here." Elara hissed out, looking around to make sure no one saw the figure walking into the place.

Shed made sure they met up at the abandoned gates. No one used it after the last war in the kingdom. It was abandoned for a reason.

The figure pulled the cloak over her head, eyes sharp and glaring daggers at Elara. "Forgive me, your majesty. It is such an easy task to come into the palace at such odd hours and avoid the palace guards and warriors." Veronica spat out bitterly.

Elara rolled her eyes. "Save that attitude for who cares. We don't have time anymore. Just ten minutes and you're done."

"Fine. Let's go."

Elara didn't respond. She turned on her heel and led the way, their footsteps hurried and silent.

Veronica followed wordlessly, her cloak flowing behind her. The scent of the dungeons hit them before the iron gate even came into view— rot, filth, old blood.

It was disgusting.

"You keep humans here or animals?" Veronica asked, arm covering her nose to drown out the stench.

Elara glanced at her before pulling up the gates to allow them in. "Animals seeing as your mate is in there." She spat out.

Veronica's smirk fell off instantly, "You little shit."

"You might as well scream that you're here with how loud you're being." Elara spat out angrily. She turned to look at the other, eyes blazing red with anger. "Make no mistake, Veronica. I'm doing your father and you a favor. Keep that bitchy attitude of yours or.." she trailed off, keeping the rest to herself.

Veronica didn't reply anymore, she merely huffed, her insisted tingling with anger at how much she wanted to grab Elara's ponytail and slam her against the wall.

As they neared the gates where Radek's as being kept, the sound of growling and grunting reached their ears, the sound increasing with each step.

The four guards who had been guarding him had been reduced to three, with one unconscious on the floor and the other three trying to hold the bars down.

"What the hell." Elara muttered with wide eyes as she finally laid eyes on the person making this much ruckus in there.

Bending the iron bars was Radek. His face was barely recognizable. His features were sunken and distorted, veins bulging and blackened under his pale, patchy skin. His mouth opened unnaturally wide, revealing fangs where his teeth should've been. His eyes were red-rimmed.

He wasn't a wolf— No, this was different. Radek was a..

"General! Get the king! A monster has been let loose." One of the guards holding the gates yelled, part of his body bruised.

"What? No!" Veronica yelled, looking at Elara for help.

"Gods.." Elara muttered, eyes wide with shock.

"Elara!" Veronica called out again, jerking her arm with force. Elara jolted out of her shock and looked at Veronica.

"Do something!" The other gritted out. Radek snarls was getting louder and it wouldn't take time till it reached the king that wasn't it hadn't already.

"Stand back!" Elara ordered the guards whose face went pale with shock.

"G-General."

"It's an order. Stand back!" She snapped and they did. immediately they stepped back, Veronica bolted right into the cell Radek was being kept.

Elara watched Veronica stare at Radek as she panted hard. Then she dipped her hand into the small ruffle she'd brought along and held out a bunch of pills and in a second, she shoved it all into his mouth.

Radek's growls turned into a choked sound, deep in his throat. His eyes widened for a split second—then he dropped to his knees, spasming violently.

Elara watched, heart racing, as his transformation slowed. The veins faded from black to a dull grey. His features, though still twisted, began to settle. His fangs retracted, jaw locking shut with a sickening crunch.

Radek slumped against the cell wall, chest heaving, slick with sweat and blood.

The guards gawked from behind Elara, too stunned to speak. One of them whispered something about the gods.

Elara blinked, quickly regaining herself. She turned to the guards. "Not a word to his majesty or the beta." She ordered.

The guards eyes widen. "General? We're mandated by the law to report anything and everything that happens in the palace to his majesty. I'm sorry but we cannot follow your orders on this."

Elara glanced back at the cell where Veronica was now kneeling in front of Radek, muttering something to him.

She looked at the guards and sighed. "I understand but if the king hears of this…he will take out his wrath on you and everyone. You know exactly how the king can be." She paused, seeing fear flash in the guards eye.

Everyone remembered the terror they had to live with in the past years. Thorne only became as soft as he was now recently.

"I'll report what happened here to the king myself but no one must hear of this. Not a soul."

Another guard opened his mouth. "My lady, are you sure—"

"I'll tell the king myself. That's all you need to know." She snarled and the guards went silent.

Elara's jaw clenched hard. She was only back for a day and this is the trouble Carter was trying to put her in?

Veronica stepped out of the cell, dusting the dirt off her dress. She cleared her throat and Elara turned to her.

"I'm done." She said.

Elara's gaze flickered to the man behind the cell, he looked wrecked and out of his mind….nothing like he did moments ago.

Elara nodded. "Chain him. We don't want a repeat of what just happened." Elara ordered and the guards immediately got to working.

Then Elara turned to Veronica who had wore her cloak to cover her head again and then grabbed the other by the arm and walked out of the dungeon.

Once they were in a much safer corner Veronica jerked her arm free, face scrunched in annoyance. "What the hell?" She snapped.

"What the hell? What the hell? What the fuck just happened in there?" Elara snarled, the sound echoing off the walls.

Both of their eyes widen as soon as they realized what they'd just done. For a moment none of them said a word, they waited silently, ears sharp and listening for any king of noise and when there was nothing.

Elara pressed her fingers to her temples, pacing. "What the fuck was that? That thing in there—Radek—that was not normal." She looked at Veronica. "What is he? What the hell did your father do to him?"

Veronica didn't answer at first. Her lips parted, then shut again. "Mind your business Elara, stop poke nosing into things that don't concern you."

Elara's eyes flared. "Don't play games with me. You saw what he did. What he almost became. If he'd gotten loose—"

"He didn't," Veronica interrupted. "Because I handled it. he'll never become loose. Don't worry."

Elara could only stare at her like she'd grown two extra heads. Shed always thought she was the craziest person she knew but this….this was crazier than crazy.

What the hell is radek if he isn't a wolf? How then can he shift to his wolf? What is he?

"Whatever that is in there…it has to do with Everyone in the kingdom and if you don't—"

"Oh please…don't tell me you're really going to threaten us about telling the king? And what would you say? That you are an accomplice?"

Elara's taken aback. "What?"

Veronica scoffed. "You came to our pack on your own accord and offered this deal. Do you really think you'll be exempted if the king finds out?"

Elara scoffed like she couldn't believe her ears. "Are you threatening me?"

"Now why would I threaten you? You're my father's close friend, aren't you?" She asked with a smirk.

"Forget what you saw in there today. Radek's a wolf and he is my mate. That's all there is to know." She paused, then stepped closer to Elara.

"You've done your part and now father will fulfill his. You want rogues, ones outside of Obsidian, right? Father will provide them."

Elara stared at the woman, jaw clenched hard but no word could leave her lips. She inhaled deeply, anger bubbling inside of her.

"Tell Lord Carter I fulfilled my part of the deal. I expect mine done tomorrow." She said.
