Blood Awakening: The Strongest Hybrid and His Vampire Bride

Chapter 403: When All Doubts Colide

The moment the doors opened, Nikolai rushed inside, desperate to help his friend, but a small shadow darted through faster. Marianne's body was petite, but when she assessed the situation, she didn't wait and hurried to her brother's side.

"Brother Alexei!"

"Marianne!" A low voice cried out, the familiar voice brought a sense of ease to Nikolai, who helped Sasha and the others inside. he looked back to see Lunaria and Amphitrite hitting the panel on the door, as it began to shut slowly with a low hiss. "Lock it!"

In the background, a group of werewolves dashed for the door, their hands holding rifles, frothing at their lips while sprinting towards the door.

"Oh no, you don't!"

The sudden crackle of gunfire echoed as their leader shot.

Nikolai grabbed both women and yanked them back, the bullets bouncing off the closing doors, bright sparks and the sound of bullets ricocheting off the metal.

Once the door shut, the girls looked around for a way to lock it, but the controls were not on their side.

"Can we lock it from here?"

"Don't worry, the door will automatically seal itself," Sasha muttered, pushing off Nikolai's chest, her dead gaze looking up at him for a moment, before turning away with slightly red cheeks. "Such a strong scent... unscientific and... obscene." She muttered before heading towards the fallen bodies around Alexei.

Alexei lifted his sister, tears in the corner of his eyes, spinning her around.

"You're alive, I always promised to save you!"

"B-Brother!?"

Rumours stated that the siblings were never close, but from the moment Nikolai met Alexei, he never once felt these rumours were true.

"You must have suffered, Mari... Father was also worried; he even asked me to save you."

"W-what Father asked you!? But Father..."

"Hates me? Haha, well. Maybe not anymore."

The two embraced, ignoring everyone, and Nikolai couldn't help but smile before looking back at the door, "We need to get out of here. The door is shut, but they can open it easily enough, and we cannot escape."

Amphitrite and Lunaria remained close to him, leaning against his chest, both women too exhausted to do anything else.

"Alexei, is there another exit?"

The man lifted Marianne in a princess carry, looking towards the wall of boxes, which Nikolai assumed were the explosives. "My brother, I don't have a clue... the entrance I came through suddenly closed and that damn Alaric vanished before I faced an ambush by these fools."

"Damn..."

Sasha, however, paced back to where the group was. She held a few vials of blood, which she pulled from the corpses, which made Nikolai curious. 'Where did she get those?' But the scientist didn't care about his strange thoughts. "There is an exit, but it might be dangerous and dirty."

"What do you mean?"

Nikolai didn't mind danger or dirt, but wanted to know what to expect. Since their group was larger, he couldn't risk their lives.

"There is a sewage System connected to these tunnels... we can go down and into the tunnels, but the problem is that I don't know where we'll come out."

"We'll deal with that later, for now." Nikolai stepped forward, ready to take Sasha, but her eyes were cold as she turned away and strode towards the left tunnel. "I can walk for myself, thank you..." Nikolai might not have noticed the change, but Bmphitrite and Lunaria did, gazing at each other and realising that their stupid husband had done it again...

"Let's follow her, since they could set a trap for Alexei, it's likely there might be some waiting along this exit."

Nikolai didn't believe their enemy was stupid; he would bet his left lung that most of their top members were ready and waiting to crush them the moment their hope became the biggest.

"Stay focused, and Alexei, be ready."

The man looked at him with a raised brow, "What do you mean? Are you thinking they'll be waiting?"

"Yes, but it doesn't matter, I believe in your skills. But we have a lot of baggage with that scientist, so if things get dangerous, prioritise Marianne." The cute vampire turned back to Nikolai, peeking from her brother's shoulder and pulling out her tongue.

"I'm not baggage!"

"Haha, I know."

"N-Nikolai... even if it's you, I won't let you date my sister..."

Nikolai laughed it off as he jogged after Sasha, "Come on! We're going to die if we stay here too long." His words were joking and serious, but they needed to be on the move; staying in one place would allow them to get ambushed.

They followed behind Sasha until they reached a massive grate that looked like something in the sewers. The stench was disgusting, which meant it was likely real.

"So once we jump down, there will be several pipes, each leading to a different sewage plant spread through Drevnos..." Sasha tapped her cheek, counting the tunnels with her foot. "I don't know which goes where, but there is a good chance that those bastards will be waiting for us at the end."

"So it's a gamble?"

"..."

Amphitrite and Lunaria looked at Nikolai, who stood looking at the different tunnels. The scent was bad enough, and memories of those dangerous beasts in S-City made him nervous. It reminded him that everything was linked, including the corruption, the tower, and the laboratory to create the perfect hybrid.

'What are the Nosferatu thinking?' He wondered, recalling everything he knew.

The gambling and human experiments were only a cover-up for the real project, which was creating an artificial body, but why did they want this? Was it true that Alucard just wanted to make a perfect body for his wife, his vampire bride?

'Or is it for immortality... true immortality?'

Because he learned from his father that even the most powerful vampires would suffer decline and eventually die.

At the very least, the strongest vampires slept hundreds of years, and only woke up for a year or two at best—some could only remain awake for a month.

"How are we going to group up?" Nikolai asked, looking at their members, he couldn't help but worry... although he wanted to go with his wives, Sasha's value might surpass them when it came to reviving his mother and stopping the Nosferatu's goals.

"I'll go with my brother."

"..."

"Ah, don't worry, Marianne, I know you don't like me, that's fine, but..."

"No! It's not that... but my brother is strong and you have..." Marianna's pale cheeks were slightly pink, causing Alexei's eyes to widen as he huffed, scowling at Nikolai with a playful frown.

"Hah, don't think about it, Mari! That guy has so many women, he's a complete playboy!"

"Hehe~ okay brother."

The siblings helped stabilise and calm the mood, and Nikolai nodded while mouthing. "Thanks, Brother." To Alexei, before turning to the five shafts. "You two should pick a shaft... We will split up and head to the inn where we left our cars."

"Nikolai? What about your grandfather?" Alexei asked with a genuine worry.

Nikolai turned to the big baldy and shrugged. "It seems that he's not here, at least Alaric might have betrayed me.

"Tsk... that old bastard."

"We will figure it out once we're in the clear."

"Alright, we'll take the shaft on the far right." Amphitrite said while taking Lunaria's hand, causing her to gasp, "W-Wait, I wanted to go with..." But her voice trailed off as she realised Nikolai was going with Sasha, and she didn't want him to be alone.

Nikolai didn't want to leave his two lovers alone, but Sasha's body couldn't fight, and without him absorbing the blows inside the sewage pipes, she might just die.

'Though she could transform if needed, but that hideous form...'

"Let's go." Nikolai moved towards another shaft and looked at Sasha, who turned to him with a slight frown.

"I don't need you."

The woman's voice trembled in a low whisper, and her body tensed up as Nikolai's cold hands wrapped around her waist and picked her up like a bride.

"Don't struggle."

"..."

"See you on the other side."

"Take care, Brother Nikolai."

"Babe..."

"Darling, don't miss me too much."

Nikolai watched everyone jump one after the other. He gave them enough time to drift apart before jumping into a different shaft than any of the three groups.

The fall was long and smelly, with Sasha clinging to his neck as she trembled.

He could feel the disgusting sensation.

"Are you ready?"

"N-No... I am scared, let's wait for another second!"

Sasha shut her eyes tight while hugging Nikolai's neck.

He looked up at the pitch black ceiling, feeling a tad sorry for the woman who must have gone through a lot in the lab. She was abducted from a young age and spent most of her life here.

'I don't know what kind of trauma she went through...'

"Can you hold your breath for long?"

"Eh!?" The scientist looked shocked.

Nikolai didn't think this tunnel would take long, but the fumes and scent would overwhelm her.

"Forgive me, but this is so you don't die."

Before the scientist could understand his words, Nikolai sealed her lips, kissing deeply to share their breath when needed, as their bodies dropped into the wet tunnel, while tasting the sweet flavour of her breath.

The woman herself, though, turned beet red.

'This fucking perverted bastard...

I'll kill you! When we get out of here, you're dead meat.

How dare you take my first kiss!'
