Blood Awakening: The Strongest Hybrid and His Vampire Bride

Chapter 400: Freyed Threads drawn together

The revelation took a moment to register in Nikolai's mind. He watched the glistening orb that pulsed with a mysterious, yet familiar power, similar to the black orb in his chest that contained the power to imitate and copy blood, the evil god's blood.

'...'

"After all..." Ampihitrite's throat also bulged for a moment, before something strange happened when she rolled out her tongue, even the blonde female's eyes spread wide. "I shee..." The words of Amphitrite sounded amused as she lulled her tongue before swallowing the mermaid's tear back down her throat.

"Why!?"

"Hmmm?"

The female almost shouted, her breathing ragged suddenly.

"Why is your mermaid's tear black!?"

"Ah..." Amphitrite looked at Nikolai with some concern.

'She's not good at hiding her emotions, that's for certain.'

Nikolai knew it would be hard for Amphitrite to speak up if he didn't step in now. He also wanted to ask her a leading question; in this situation, Amphitrite couldn't fool him with a lie.

"It's my fault, isn't it, Amphitrite?"

The moment Nikolai's deep voice reached her ears, the mermaid queen reacted interestingly. Her face became pale, and the colour of her blue scales became a light blue as she snapped to face him. "How did you...?" That's when her mouth opened, because Nikolai's serious eyes narrowed with a nod.

"I have noticed some strange things... What happens to the body if the mermaid's tear is lost? You said I needed a mermaid's tear to save my mother, which means you gave up your power to create your body, so the moment we performed that ritual, did my blood corrupt your tear?"

Nikolai observed the reaction of the blonde hybrid's facial and body while speaking to Amphitrite, trying to understand, since this was something new to him, yet it was something he should have considered in the past.

'Why were the mermaids the ONLY race that the Nosferatu tried to wipe out, and why were others ignored or forgotten?' The fact that they had such a crucial part of their body that could help create a new race, a new body from scratch, was enough to show how much it was worth, but he needed to find out the answer to his question before anything else.

"Did you finally notice?"

Amphitrite stepped towards one of the crystal tubes, her hand placed on the glass, and a deformed creature floated with dead eyes.

"Is the tear related to the mermaid's origin?" Nikolai looked at the hybrid female.

"The mermaid's tear has the power to evolve and grow, but it can only do so when it has someone to feed upon. The tear, akin to an extra organ that only mermaids have, is how we gain more power, by feeding it aura, emotions and blood if needed."

"Wait... an extra organ that feeds on the blood of others?"

Nikolai stared into the blonde female's eyes.

He felt the woman's breath, how she seemed to shiver, and her strangely fearful eyes...

"It's nothing strange, handsome." She chuckled before tapping a chart on the wall. "Vampires take blood; this blood isn't a source of food but energy and fuel for their own, an imperfect version of the mermaid's tear."

She then flipped the page and several excerpts from various books from the Djinn clan of soul engineering, vampire lore, werewolves, and the moon... ALL revolved around a spherical object with mysterious abilities.

'What?'

Nikolai wasn't stupid, but that didn't mean he could understand all the world's problems either; it took him a month reading the spirit and soul engineering basics over and over to understand soul power, not to mention the things needed to learn because he awakened as a monster.

'...'

However, in the back of his mind, something felt strange, like an itch he couldn't quite scratch.

"Your face looks amusing, handsome. I assume you are a little confused, so let me try explaining it to a layman." The blonde's form reverted from the monstrous hybrid, her pale humanoid form wrapped tight in her pristine lab coat. "Where to start..."

Amphitrite also looked strange to Nikolai.

After hearing the truth about the mermaid's tear, she seemed to have gained some kind of breakthrough.

"Let's start with the tear itself, through my research on various monsters, humans and supernaturals, I have found that almost every race except humans has the potential to create a so-called "mermaid's tear" BUT! Each tear's power, effects and uses are completely different... and the chances are low, like one billion in one of forming an incomplete tear, let alone a complete one."

The scientist then tapped the whiteboard with all the documents, and a projection flickered, showing hundreds, maybe thousands, of entries about this subject. Nikolai used his enhanced dynamic vision, but the content felt like acid, melting his brain.

"One in a billion, isn't that a bit high?"

"No, not at all," she replied quickly. "For instance, I have studied several cases of vampirism, and only 1 in 1000 vampires awaken the ability of blood creation... and 1 in 10000 the ability to turn into bats." Her face became bright, the scientist seemed happy when explaining things, but Nikolai's gaze swept to the suffering Amphitrite.

That's when the projection stopped on a single page.

"Despite its unknown abilities, we have learned two things about the mermaid's tears."

The page then turned, showing:

First, the tear allows us to fuse, form, and mix any body and physical feature known to man, be it human, animal, monster, or even aliens, which could be cut up and stuck together.

Second - No matter how pure the used tear is, the mermaid's tear can NOT create life or affect blood.

'Hmm?'

Something clicked in his mind... the two bodies locked in the tower for thousands of years, maybe more.

'What if it wasn't because the tower fell, but because they couldn't bring them to life after experimenting?'

With only the magic of the tube and fluids keeping the flesh 'alive' in a sense, they lacked a critical component.

'My blood... copying other blood... the black orb shaped like those tears in the centre of my chest, is it a mermaid's tear? No, it's a werewolf's tear in this case, right?'

"Can I ask a question?" Nikolai's hand shook slightly, and he was building an answer to all the questions that he kept inside for the past six months.

"Of course."

"What effects did you find in the other types of... let's call them tears?"

That's when the blond woman's lips curled into a wide, almost distorted grin, revealing the fangs of a different race, practically akin to the lamphrey blood in Luna.

She tapped the sheet beside her, which switched to a chaotic page with paragraphs struck out, corrected, and ramblings... but two notes caught Nikolai's attention.

The half-complete vampire's core can generate blood, thus life, but it cannot mix or merge different blood types. Only a Royal bloodline can produce acceptable results - FAILURE!

The partial werewolf core of patient Anastasia can adapt and change the blood given, but only to a certain degree before it starts to fail - FAILURE!

A hypothesis that a pure hybrid with the bloodline of Volkov and Royal vampire blood might solve these two issues.

The diary was dated nearly fifty years ago, before Nikolai's birth.

"Do you perhaps understand now, handsome? Just how disgusting and vile the work we've been doing here for the past two hundred years, well before me, my mother was the one in charge. These are my mother's notes before the constant attempts to make it work failed."

'What does she mean?' Nikolai's mind was working in overdrive, but he now started to see the threads, why the Silver and Nosferatu family targeted his aunt... targeted his parents and constantly got involved in his life.

'If they knew my aunt, Anastasia could copy and mix bloodlines into one... then a hybrid like me who shows up and doesn't die cannot have escaped their knowledge.'

Nikolai didn't want to continue; his chest became tight, and he breathed faster as his entire life became confusing and terrifying. If everything was planned to create a hybrid with the core able to develop life and mix blood, he couldn't help but fear their actual goal.

'That black orb in my chest... is this what Alucard meant when saving Mikaela!?'

The biggest irony was that the method to create a body for his mother was within his chest all along, and that's when he looked at Amphitrite with a sharp glare. 'She knew, or at least understood... was that moment in the tower a test?'

Amphihitrite turned to face him, her eyes widened from his aggressive glare, her hands on the glass spreading further as she bit her lips.

He didn't want to believe it or think about it anymore.

The Massacre of the Mermaids world.

His aunt's kidnapping and being used as a test subject by the Faust clan

The Laboratories in the towers.

Even his mother and father falling in love must have been part of their plan.

How long had the Nosferatu clan focused on not the undead but on creating actual, living beings?

'Then who taught my mother to bind herself to that pendant!?' His hand shook, and a harrowing thought spread through his mind. 'No... was that also part of this!? If a young hybrid were desperate to find a body for his mother... surely it would bring him on this path!?'

The mermaid's tear was the lock, and he was the key.

That instant, Nikolai's pupils dilated, and everything seemed to fit together like a puzzle.

"We have to leave, NOW!"
