Bleach x Naruto: Shinigami in Konoha

Chapter 49: CHAPTER 49

"When Orochimaru defected, he had been studying a forbidden jutsu — a technique that allows his soul to reincarnate continuously into different bodies. It's called the Living Corpse Reincarnation Technique," Minato said solemnly, his expression grave.

"At that time, the jutsu wasn't fully developed, but now, it appears he has completely mastered it. From what you've described, it's highly likely that Orochimaru has used it to reincarnate into the body of the missing Uchiha rogue ninja."

Minato addressed Sasuke, Shisui, and Itachi with a deep frown. An Orochimaru with the Sharingan would undoubtedly be more dangerous than ever before. The existence of this Uchiha defector troubled Minato — he couldn't think of a viable solution.

"Then Orochimaru must have truly perfected the jutsu, just as Lord Hokage said. But if that's the case, do we still need to pursue Orochimaru in order to fulfill the condition of capturing the rogue Uchiha?"

Shisui asked calmly. If they really had to capture Orochimaru to satisfy the original agreement, then the Uchiha clan's restoration of political rights within Konoha would be in jeopardy. After all, the agreement was publicly set — made in the presence of the village's elders, clan leaders, and the Hokage himself. Even Minato couldn't nullify it lightly.

With less than two years remaining until the deadline, capturing someone like Orochimaru — whom the entire Hidden Leaf failed to capture for a decade — was essentially unrealistic. As Minato had said, the ninja world was vast. If Orochimaru continued to hide, he could easily avoid pursuit.

Minato thought silently for a moment, then finally said, "No need. If we include the current state of Orochimaru, then continuing with the original terms of the agreement would be too unreasonable.

Now that Orochimaru has possessed the body of the rogue Uchiha, that ninja can be considered deceased. Though it's not a direct capture, the rogue has essentially been eliminated. The Uchiha have fulfilled their part of the deal. I believe the other clans will recognize the tremendous changes the Uchiha have undergone these past years. Few will object."

Since Uchiha Setsuna led many radical members away, Fugaku and the moderate faction had gained significant authority within the clan. The influence of remaining radicals had also diminished thanks to their consistent efforts.

Fugaku launched a sweeping internal reform: any Uchiha who acted arrogantly or mistreated villagers during missions was strictly punished. Over the years, the clan's reputation in the village improved dramatically. The distrust and avoidance from the general populace largely faded away.

Upon hearing this, Shisui sighed in relief, as if he had been released from a heavy burden.

Stripping the Uchiha of political power wouldn't directly affect individual ninjas — most of their income came from mission rewards. But on a clan level, such a move could breed new radicals like Setsuna and unravel years of Fugaku's hard work.

"Thank you, Lord Hokage," Shisui said with heartfelt gratitude. Sasuke and Itachi both bowed as well, equally sincere.

Minato smiled gently. "You don't need to thank me. This is what you've earned. If anything, I should apologize for not being able to protect your rightful interests sooner. You've all done your part for Konoha."

Sasuke was genuinely moved. A leader who could recognize loyalty, show compassion, and embrace diverse perspectives — such traits were rare. Minato possessed them all.

History was filled with leaders who executed loyal retainers out of insecurity. Even in this world, there were tragic cases — like Konoha's White Fang or the Hidden Sand's Pakura. Despite their outstanding service, one died by suicide, the other was killed far from home.

It was ironic. Had it not been for Konoha's strong foundation, Orochimaru's eventual "Konoha Crush" would have left the village in ruins, no better than the shattered Sand.

"Rest assured, Lord Hokage. This village is our home, and I believe everyone here wants to protect it. As long as you have use for me, I'll never turn you down," Shisui answered firmly.

Given Shisui's unwavering loyalty — even after being persecuted by Danzo — his dedication was unquestionable.

"Since you say that," Minato said, his expression shifting slightly more serious, "I do have one task I hope you'll accept."

At that moment, Minato glanced toward Sasuke and Itachi. Understanding the cue, Sasuke and Sai exited the Hokage's office and quietly closed the door behind them.

Nara Shikaku and Yamanaka Inoichi remained. They already knew what was coming.

"Please give me your orders, Lord Hokage," Shisui said without hesitation once the room was clear.

"Now that the rogue Uchiha has been dealt with, I want you to return — to serve as captain of my personal Anbu unit."

Shisui was stunned. He'd expected a mission — not a promotion, and certainly not such a prestigious one. The position of Hokage's direct Anbu captain was once held by none other than the legendary White Fang himself.

For a moment, Shisui was at a loss. He felt overwhelmed by the trust placed in him.

"Of course, you're free to refuse. I won't ever force anyone," Minato added gently.

Shisui dropped to one knee without hesitation. "Thank you for your trust, Lord Hokage. I accept!"

After more than ten minutes of waiting outside the Hokage Building, Sasuke and Itachi finally saw Shisui emerge.

Sai had already left. Sasuke and Itachi didn't ask about what was said behind closed doors, and Shisui didn't mention it either.

"Nii-san, are your eyes doing okay?" Sasuke asked quietly as they walked.

He knew that as long as the Mangekyō Sharingan wasn't overused, the risks were low — but he still worried.

"I was just tired yesterday. I'm fine now," Itachi replied, gently touching his eyes.

"It's best not to rely on that power too often. The backlash will only grow stronger over time," Shisui reminded him.

"I know. I'll be careful," Itachi said seriously.

When they returned to the Uchiha compound, Shisui took his leave, and Sasuke and Itachi went home. Just then, Fugaku happened to be arriving. Sasuke informed him of what had happened — specifically that Itachi had awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan.

"What?! You awakened the…" Fugaku's voice rose sharply, but he quickly lowered it and said in a quieter tone, "Mangekyō Sharingan?"
