Bleach x Naruto: Shinigami in Konoha

Chapter 44: CHAPTER 44

Sasuke raised his sword just in time to block Uchiha Setsuna's slash when suddenly, a dense forest erupted from the earth — a wave of Mokuton surged forward, crashing toward him and the others.

As Sasuke and the others leapt back to avoid the Wood Release onslaught, the battlefield split in an instant, separating the trio.

Itachi now faced off against the reanimated First Hokage, while Shisui confronted the reanimated Second Hokage.

The terrain had transformed—gnarled roots twisted across the battlefield, absorbing chakra from any who touched them. Sasuke estimated that the reanimated First and Second Hokage both retained Kage-level power, despite their Edo Tensei state.

"If your brother hadn't intervened last time, you'd have been long dead at my hands. Let's see who'll save you this time!" Uchiha Setsuna growled, brandishing a long blade as he lunged toward Sasuke.

Sasuke noted that Setsuna hadn't used this weapon during their previous encounter—whether it was a new acquisition or merely forgotten before, it didn't matter now.

"I suggest you keep your arrogance in check. You're only revealing your fear," Sasuke replied coldly, his Sharingan narrowing in disdain.

"You little brat! I'll rip your mouth off your face!" Setsuna roared and lashed out with a kick. Sasuke blocked with his arms, sliding back a few meters under the impact.

"Katon: Ryūen Hōka no Jutsu!"

Four blazing dragons burst from Setsuna's mouth, spiraling toward Sasuke.

"Katon: Ryūen Hōka no Jutsu!"

Sasuke's hands blurred into seals, answering with four fire dragons of his own. The two jutsu collided mid-air, canceling each other out in an explosion of flames and smoke. Though Sasuke rarely relied on ninjutsu, he had mastered virtually all Fire Style techniques of the Uchiha clan. He simply didn't use them often—after all, Fire Style alone rarely secured a kill.

"You're still stuck where you were six years ago. Meanwhile, I've become someone completely different! Hadō #63: Raikōhō!"

A pale bolt of lightning surged forward, striking Setsuna and leaving a smoldering wound on his side.

Orochimaru, observing from the sidelines, made no move. Yet his gaze lingered on Sasuke with growing interest. The boy represented both a path to immortality and something beyond ordinary ninjutsu—a system of attacks tied to spoken incantations. Orochimaru had already deduced that Sasuke's abilities stemmed from something fundamentally different.

Setsuna, undeterred by the injury, lunged again. Strange, eye-like curse markings spread across his skin, and his wound began to knit itself shut.

"You're pissing me off. No matter what, I'm killing you today!"

Steel clashed against steel—blades struck over a dozen times in an instant. Sasuke noted that Setsuna's physical strength had increased significantly. In pure strength, Sasuke was at a disadvantage.

Again, their swords locked. Setsuna pushed down with brutal force, trying to overpower Sasuke.

"What happened to your confidence, huh? Is that it? Can't handle a real fight, little boy? Then go ahead—die!" Setsuna taunted, pressing harder.

With a sharp twist, Sasuke redirected Setsuna's blade, sidestepping the pressure. He raised his hand forward.

"Bakudō #61: Rikujōkōrō!"

Six beams of light slammed into Setsuna, pinning him in place. Sasuke knew this high-level Kido wouldn't restrain him long without an incantation—but a moment was all he needed.

"Scatter—Senbonzakura."

Sasuke's katana dissolved into a thousand slender blades, each shimmering like pink petals in the light. His original Zanpakutō, Ryūjin Jakka, was too chakra-intensive for prolonged use, so he opted for Senbonzakura in this skirmish.

"You're no different than those other fools—repeating empty threats to mask your own weakness."

With a gesture, the petals surged forward. Just as Setsuna broke free of the light prison, he was bombarded. Hundreds of cuts lacerated his body instantly.

The four Oto-nin nearby bristled with anger, but without Orochimaru's command, none dared act. Setsuna's enhanced state dulled his pain receptors; the slashes barely registered.

Setsuna opened his mouth to speak, but Sasuke's earlier words silenced him. He clenched his fists instead and wove hand seals.

"Katon: Gōka Mekkyaku!"

An enormous wall of fire surged forth—a raging sea of flames aimed at Sasuke. Though far from the power Uchiha Madara had once displayed, with the Cursed Seal and his Sharingan enhancing him, Setsuna's version held a quarter of that legendary force.

Before the inferno, Sasuke appeared minuscule.

"Carriage of thunder, bridge of a spinning wheel. With light, divide this into six! Bakudō #81: Dankū!"

This time, Sasuke fully recited the incantation. The translucent barrier snapped into place, halting the sea of flames entirely.

Itachi, still battling the First Hokage, allowed a faint breath of relief at Sasuke's defense—but he remained wary. Orochimaru still hadn't moved, and that was troubling.

As he momentarily glanced away, a red figure dropped from the sky. Itachi rolled to the side just in time—the ground beneath him exploded as the attack landed with devastating force.

He refocused. His Sharingan genjutsu proved useless against the First Hokage's reincarnated body, and most other methods had little effect. Even if he destroyed the body, it would regenerate.

He had one technique capable of sealing Edo Tensei bodies, but its use was limited. He needed the right timing.

Meanwhile, Shisui was stalemated. His Shunshin mastery was formidable, but the Second Hokage's wide-area ninjutsu easily neutralized his clones and movement patterns. Shisui hadn't yet revealed his trump cards—he was also closely monitoring Orochimaru's movements.

Back on Sasuke's side, Setsuna had lost all patience. With a snarl, he unleashed the second stage of his Cursed Seal. Black lines engulfed his body, his skin turned a charred gray, and grotesque mutations sprouted—fins on his arms, a bony tail from his spine.

Hideous.

Sasuke regarded him with open disgust. He would never subject himself to that kind of transformation—his pride wouldn't allow it.

"HAHAHAHA! Time to die!"

Setsuna charged wildly, flinging a punch at Sasuke, heedless of the petal blades still surrounding him.
