Life as the Third Officer of Squad Four wasn't as easy as Moyu had imagined. But thanks to Unohana Retsu's deliberate care, it wasn't too hectic either. Aside from basic paperwork, his main duties involved treating the wounded and tending to patients.

Still, he couldn't ignore one unavoidable issue.

Alongside his role as Third Officer, he was also assigned as Assistant Deputy—meaning his direct superior was Seinosuke Yamada, a man as outwardly calculating as his sharp features suggested.

"Mr. Moyu, your Kaidō is more advanced than I expected," Yamada said as he packed away surgical tools after finishing a major operation.

"Maybe I'm just diligent and talented," Moyu replied dryly, not bothering to fake modesty.

He never tried to build rapport with Yamada, but the man had shown no hostility so far—only acting like a regular, professional colleague. Even so, Moyu remained quietly on guard.

Yamada, taken aback by the flat response, was momentarily speechless. Wasn't this where one was supposed to act humble? He couldn't keep up with Moyu's strange rhythm, and silence fell in the ward.

When the tools were packed, both men exited into the corridor.

Just then, black butterflies fluttered toward them.

"Hell Butterflies?" Moyu narrowed his eyes.

Used only by Shinigami, Hell Butterflies were rare, specially bred for relaying important information across Soul Society and the Human World. Each one carried a small Tenteikūra spell, linking directly to the Technology Development Bureau's emergency alerts.

Moyu extended a finger, letting the butterfly land. The message transmitted instantly.

As he read, his expression darkened.

"The Eleventh Division's three combat units have suffered heavy casualties..." he muttered.

Yamada read it too. "Squad Four is being mobilized for emergency treatment in South Rukongai's 39th District. With the Captain out gathering medicinal herbs, responsibility falls on us."

He paused, casting a wary glance at Moyu.

"If even the Eleventh Division was devastated, the danger level may be critical."

Moyu remained calm. "Let Deputy Captain Yamada handle it. You're the strongest in the division right now. Isn't that so?"

It was a clean deflection.

But Yamada wasn't about to shoulder it alone.

"Mr. Moyu, you defeated Yijiang Village with ease. Your strength is more than enough—this mission must include you."

Moyu gave him a sharp look and nearly hurled his tray at the man's face.

Now he remembers me?

When it was time to divide credit, he barely said my name, but now he wants me in harm's way?

So he really is a snake.

"I refuse," Moyu said flatly, brushing off the pressure.

Deputy Captain or not, he had no authority to order him.

He walked off toward the supply room.

South Rukongai's 39th District... the same place rumored to hide a pseudo-Arrancar.

With his current strength, he'd be forced to flee if he encountered one of those monsters.

Unless...

He stopped at the doorway, then shook his head and dropped the tray.

"There is no 'unless.' Don't be reckless. Risking your life isn't noble—it's dumb."

He turned toward his team building. He'd planned to check the progress of his Zanjutsu, Hakuda, and movement drills—and maybe give them a push.

But as he approached, another Hell Butterfly descended from the sky.

"Hm? New intel?"

He lifted his hand, and the butterfly landed.

Hum—

His Reiatsu erupted like divine fury. The entire squad building trembled beneath the weight of his sudden spiritual pressure.

Weaker members collapsed under the suffocating force, faces pale, eyes wide with dread.

Before anyone could move, Moyu vanished.

The message carried by the butterfly was brief.

Emergency Report:

Fourth Division Captain Unohana Retsu—Reiatsu signal lost in South Rukongai, 39th District.
