Chapter 6: Chapter 6 : Defending What Matters Most
"Karin!" Ren shouted anxiously as he lifted Karin's body off the ground and quickly, carefully examined her—one of the perks of having a relative who's a doctor is that you gain some medical knowledge useful in moments like this.
The first thing Ren did was check Karin's pulse, because the most important thing was that she was still alive; the injuries were secondary.
"Luckily, she's alive," Ren sighed in relief when he felt the steady pulse and continued his examination. "Some bruises and a fractured rib."
As Ren examined Karin's injuries, his expression darkened a bit—the broken ribs were close to her heart, making the situation somewhat serious.
"That damn father..." Ren gritted his teeth angrily, knowing Isshin was nowhere to be found, as if he had fled knowing this would happen.
Although Ren had some medical knowledge, it wasn't enough to handle these injuries, so he laid Karin down to rest, making it easier for her to breathe. He then fixed his gaze on Ichigo, who was slicing through the disgusting monster with a sword longer than two meters.
"Die!" Ichigo shouted, swinging the massive blade skillfully, cutting the monster in half with unbelievable precision.
The Hollow's body vanished into black ashes scattered in the air like dust before everyone's eyes, while Ichigo stood, breathing deeply, sweat dripping from his forehead, his eyes still glowing with a strange spiritual energy unlike anything Ren had seen before.
"Die? Hah..." Ren muttered bitterly with sarcasm as he slowly got up beside Karin, standing firm with his eyes locked on his twin brother. "Looks like you suddenly became an expert at killing, Ichigo."
Ichigo froze for a moment, then calmly turned to face Ren with a sharp gaze—a mix of shock, exhaustion... and guilt.
"Ren... I'm sorry, I didn't know Karin was..." Ichigo tried to justify himself, but Ren cut him off in a low, angry voice.
"You didn't know?!" Ren stepped forward. "You got into a fight with a strange monster right on the street where we live, and you didn't stop to think what could happen to us?!"
"I had no choice!" Ichigo shouted, gripping his Zanpakuto's handle tightly. "If I hadn't accepted Rukia's power, everyone would have died!"
"And did you think about protecting Yuzu? Protecting Karin? Or did you just want to play the hero?!" Ren's voice rose gradually, his spiritual energy escalating dangerously, as strange winds began to whirl around him.
"Stop!" Rukia cut in quickly, stepping between them. "This is not the time to argue! The girl on the ground is bleeding, and there's a chance another Hollow could appear at any moment!"
Ren glanced at Rukia for a moment, then rolled his eyes toward Karin and knelt beside her again. His anger seemed to subside a bit—or rather, he suppressed it.
"..." Ren stared deeply at Karin lying on the ground before carefully lifting her, afraid any careless movement might worsen her injuries. He carried her into the clinic where the old man's medical equipment was kept.
Without care or politeness, Ren lightly kicked the door, breaking it open and entered, determined to make that damned father regret leaving his children when they were in danger—even if he didn't realize it.
Ren stepped into the clinic with heavy footsteps, holding Karin like a fragile treasure that might break at any moment. His face was dark, eyes glowing with suppressed anger and hatred—not toward Ichigo this time, but toward the man who was supposed to protect them all.
He gently laid Karin on the main medical bed in the room and began searching through drawers and cabinets filled with medical tools.
"System, I want something to save Karin," Ren spoke coldly in his mind, clearly not in a good mood.
[Ding! Do you want to sacrifice chances of receiving a treasure box from Karin and Yuzu to gain advanced medical knowledge and expertise?]
[Y/N]
[Note: Please note this is a one-time procedure and will never be repeated in the future.]
Ren ignored the note and didn't hesitate to gain the superior medical knowledge and expertise.
[Y]
Ren pressed the option without hesitation, his eyes fixed on Karin's pale body. There was no room for compromise... If he had to sacrifice anything to save her, he would.
[Ding! Activated... Loading advanced medical knowledge and expertise in all fields of medicine.]
"Ugh...!" Ren gasped, clutching his head suddenly as waves of pain surged through his skull as if invisible knives were being driven into his brain. Yet, he didn't scream. He didn't move. All he did was stare at Karin.
Seconds... then minutes. Finally—

"... Excellent." Ren muttered quietly, his eyes glowing briefly with faint blue symbolic lines crossing his irises before fading.
He reached into a clinic cabinet and pulled out special bandages, a topical anesthetic solution, and adjustable rib fixation braces. His hand did not tremble; every movement was calculated... every step precise.
"Fracture in the fourth and fifth ribs... mild compression in the right lung... no internal bleeding, but a partial collapse is possible... we'll prevent that now," he murmured as he prepared the tools.
Quickly, he cleaned the injury site, injected the anesthetic at a specific angle, then began fixing the external supports around the chest. He used specialized wraps to reduce pressure on the heart area and gently turned Karin's head to ease breathing.
Ichigo opened his mouth to speak, but Ren raised his hand without looking at him.
"Don't disturb me."
His tone was sharp enough to cut the air.
"Do... do you need help?" Rukia asked hesitantly.
"Yes," Ren finally said, still working. "Heat some water and sterilize the spare tools. I might need to perform quick surgery if a sudden tear happens."
"Understood." Rukia moved quickly.
More minutes passed before Ren finished setting everything. He took a deep breath and paused to contemplate his work. There wasn't a single tremor in his hands. It wasn't because of training... but because the system had granted him decades of medical practice knowledge in just a few minutes.
"... Good." He sighed, watching her rest quietly, her face clearer, breathing steady.
Then he lifted his head and looked at Ichigo with calm yet icy eyes.
"Bring Yuzu. Now."
"Ren..."
"Now."
Ichigo nodded silently and headed toward the door. As for Ren... he sat beside the bed, watching his little sister, silently thinking—If the system gave me this power... I won't let anyone hurt my family again. No Hollow, no Shinigami, not even my father.
