Black Rebirth – Asta’s Journey in Soul Society

Chapter 20: Chapter 19: Life in the Seireitei

The morning air in the Seireitei was crisp, carrying the distant sounds of training, footsteps, and the occasional burst of laughter from passing Soul Reapers. Asta stretched his arms as he stepped out into the open courtyard, feeling the warmth of the sun on his skin.

It had been a few days since his last trial, and though his body still ached from his battle in the forest, he refused to take it easy.

There was no way he was going to slack off now.

Morning Training

Asta made his way to the training grounds, where groups of Soul Reapers were already practicing their swordsmanship. He recognized a few familiar faces, some from his academy days, others he had met in passing.

He grabbed a wooden training sword from the rack and took his place among the other trainees. Though he had his Zanpakutō now, he still wanted to sharpen his fundamentals.

"Alright, Asta, let's see if that fancy sword of yours has made you any better," one of the instructors called out, tossing him a wooden blade.

Asta smirked, catching it with ease. "I was already great. Now I'm just unstoppable!"

The instructor sighed. "Yeah, yeah, let's see about that. You—step up!"

Asta's opponent, a young Soul Reaper with short brown hair, took his stance. The moment the signal was given, Asta surged forward, his raw speed surprising the spectators. His wooden sword clashed against his opponent's, sending vibrations up both their arms.

His opponent gritted his teeth and tried to push back, but Asta's strength was overwhelming. With a sharp twist, he knocked the wooden sword from the other Soul Reaper's hands, sending it flying across the training grounds.

Asta grinned. "Not bad! But you gotta hold on tighter next time."

The instructor shook his head, chuckling. "Still a reckless fighter, I see. You rely too much on brute force."

Asta scratched his head. "Hey, if it works, it works!"

"You'll need more than just power to make it in the Gotei 13," the instructor warned. "Strength alone won't win every battle."

Asta absorbed the words but simply grinned. "Then I'll just get even stronger!"

The instructor sighed. "Why do I even bother?"

A Visit to Squad 11

After training, Asta decided to explore more of the Seireitei. He found himself wandering toward Squad 11's barracks, drawn by the sounds of shouting, laughter, and the unmistakable clash of swords.

As expected, pure chaos awaited him.

Soul Reapers were fighting each other left and right, some in controlled sparring matches, others in less controlled ones.

"Oi, new guy!" a burly Soul Reaper called out, waving Asta over. "You here for a fight?"

Asta grinned. "Always!"

Before anything could happen, however, a familiar pink-haired figure dropped from the rooftop, landing right in front of him.

"Astaaa!"

Asta barely had time to react before Yachiru Kusajishi pounced on his shoulder, giggling. "You came to play with Kenny, right?"

Asta chuckled. "Nah, not today. Just looking around!"

"Awww," Yachiru pouted. "But Kenny was excited to see you fight!"

Asta glanced around, suddenly very aware of the dozens of Squad 11 members watching him with interest.

One Soul Reaper leaned against a post, smirking. "If the Captain's interested in you, that means you're worth something."

"Too bad he's not fighting anyone yet," another grumbled. "Would've been fun to see him get wrecked."

Asta crossed his arms, raising an eyebrow. "You guys really like fighting, huh?"

Yachiru giggled. "Duh! It's the best part of being a Soul Reaper!"

Asta laughed. "Well, I won't back down when the time comes!"

"You better not," a deep, familiar voice rumbled from behind.

Asta turned to see Kenpachi Zaraki standing there, arms crossed, his wild grin ever-present.

"Because when we do fight, I don't want any excuses."

Asta smirked. "Wouldn't dream of it!"

Yachiru clapped her hands. "Yay! That means you'll stick around, right?"

Asta nodded. "Of course! I'm just getting started here!"

The members of Squad 11 cheered, already considering him one of their own.

Evening Reflections

As the sun began to set, Asta found himself sitting on the rooftop of his assigned barracks, staring at the sky. The day had been full of training, exploration, and new experiences.

He still had a long way to go.

His sword still hadn't spoken to him. His journey as a Soul Reaper was only just beginning.

But he wasn't worried.

With a determined grin, he stood up, clenching his fist.

Tomorrow was a new day.

And he was ready.
