Black clover: celestial king

Chapter 5: CH.5 The burning dawn

Elios was not the type to sit around and overthink things.

The encounter with that strange man outside the Grimoire Tower had been unsettling, sure. But it wasn't like Elios could do much about it. If anything, it just reinforced his need to train harder.

The Magic Knight Selection Exam was coming up. If he wanted to stand out, he needed to refine his control over his magic.

Because right now?

His magic was powerful—but also wild.

(MC's Thoughts)

I had learned a lot about my Aurora Magic in the past year.

I knew the basics:

Dawn accelerated growth and boosted potential.

Noon brought raw strength but drained mana like crazy.

Dusk absorbed energy to restore stamina.

Midnight gave me stealth abilities.

That was already more than most mages had at my age. But the problem? Control.

I couldn't use Noon without nearly knocking myself unconscious from mana loss.

I couldn't activate Dawn without accidentally boosting everything nearby—plants, animals, even my neighbor's mustache that one time.

And Dusk? Let's just say absorbing energy wasn't always… selective.

So, before I focused on fancy spells, I needed something fundamental—a base spell that would give me better control.

---

The Training Begins

I found myself in the open training grounds near my home, away from prying eyes.

I flipped open my Grimoire, its pages glowing faintly. If I wanted a spell to serve as a foundation, it had to be something that gave me stability—something that could bridge the gap between my chaotic phases.

Then, as if responding to my thoughts, a new spell name appeared on the pages.

[Solar Brand] – Ignite a controlled celestial flame that expands outward with a set radius. Initially unstable, but mastery allows selective targeting.

Huh.

A spell that lets me control the area of destruction? That sounded… useful.

---

First Attempt: Absolute Failure

I took a deep breath and focused.

"Solar Brand!"

A golden wave of fire erupted from my palm, spreading outward like a sunburst.

And immediately—everything in front of me caught fire.

The grass? Burnt.

The wooden training dummies? Charred.

The rock I had aimed at? Somehow also burning.

I stared at the flaming rock. "…That doesn't even make sense."

The fire wasn't normal. It didn't just burn—it overrode whatever it touched, leaving golden embers even on things that shouldn't be flammable.

I quickly activated Dusk Phase, absorbing the leftover heat before I accidentally burned down the entire training ground.

Well. That was way too destructive for casual use.

---

Weeks of Training

I spent the next few weeks refining Solar Brand.

Attempt 5: Too much output. Left scorch marks in the shape of my hand on the training field.

Attempt 12: Managed to reduce the radius, but still set my shoes on fire.

Attempt 27: Could finally turn it off at will. Progress!

Attempt 48: Almost hit a passing bird. That was on me, honestly.

It was frustrating, but I was getting closer.

The spell worked by imprinting celestial energy onto an area. The problem was that my magic didn't differentiate between friend and foe—it burned everything.

But that was temporary.

I just had to find the key to controlling it.

---

One night, I sat outside, staring at the stars. My magic had always been tied to the sky—to the cycles of the sun and stars.

What if I wasn't forcing control the right way?

Instead of trying to stop the flames, maybe I needed to mark what should remain untouched—a sort of safe zone.

I stood up, summoning the spell again. This time, I imagined a boundary.

"Solar Brand!"

The golden flames erupted again, but—

This time, the fire curved around me, leaving my feet untouched.

I grinned.

I wasn't there yet. But I was getting closer.

And when I mastered this?

I'd have a spell that no one else could replicate.
