Chapter 6: Chapter 6 Mission
Feeling like he'd heard wrong, Kayden blinked, probably trying to see if the woman standing in front of him was real—but here she was.
Was she okay? How the hell was he supposed to seduce the prince? That was as absurd as the day was long. And for the fact that the prince was straight—how the hell was that supposed to work?
Not to mention the prince was his rival in real life. No. Definitely no. That was never happening.
"I'm sorry if this might come off as rude, lady, but I believe you've got the wrong kid. I'm just a twenty-year-old innocent guy." He knew that wasn't exactly the proper age for a "kid," but who cared?
"And how the hell are you even sure I'm the right person for this job?" Kayden demanded outright. He wasn't getting this sudden mission at all.
The fairy godmother approached him, and with a flick of her wand, a light passed over Kayden's face and then stopped.
Kayden stared at her, his face scrunched up, questioning what that was. The fairy godmother sighed.
"Young man, I believe we started off on the wrong foot. My name is Lilian, but you can call me Lily. And I just healed your wound—which you left unattended," Lily pointed out.
Kayden felt his face and realized the wound was gone. Wow. He'd totally forgotten he'd injured himself back then because of that damn prince.
"So? What's that supposed to make up for—suddenly demanding I follow you blindly to seduce a prince, which might even get me killed?" Kayden still wasn't falling for this cheap trick—and his stomach hurt like hell.
Lilian's eyes darkened instantly, and to Kayden's surprise, she turned serious—deadly serious.
"The kingdom is in danger, and something sinister is happening in the palace. I need you to go and stop it." Lilian went straight to the point.
Kayden's eyes narrowed. How was that supposed to concern him?
"And if you don't, in the next twenty days, you're going to die. Because as I said earlier, you're not part of this world, so in order for things to return to normal…you need to be eliminated." Lilian delved deeper.
Kayden's face paled instantly. He was being threatened now—for entering his friend's motherfucking novel. And by the way, this wasn't even his choice, so why the death threat?
Lilian then brought her hand closer, brushing Kayden's silver hair, which was strangely soft and silky to the touch.
"You know you're special, Kayden, don't you? And before you start blabbering, just know that darkness is about to swallow Eldrador, and you're the chosen one." Lilian stressed "chosen one" so hard it gave Kayden metaphorical hickeys.
Kayden was overwhelmed. Him—the chosen one? That was impossible. He'd just entered the body of a teenager, and now he was being tagged as the chosen one? Something wasn't adding up. And the fact that no one knew him—especially Cinderella—was weird. Tell him why the hell the girl wouldn't know her own stable boy? It sounded suspicious.
"Wait. So you're trying to tell me that I, Kayden, am going to save this whole kingdom from darkness? Wow, that's epic." Kayden exclaimed, mischief dancing in those dazzling silver eyes of his.
Lilian facepalmed, exasperated. Gosh, why wasn't this young man taking her words seriously? Her sister needed to be stopped right now—because she was trying to instigate a war with the humans and the Supernatural, especially the fairies, who'd been hidden for several years.
"Focus, kid. You know what?" Lilian finally snapped.
"Just make sure you get to the ball before Cinderella. And whatever you do, make sure the prince gets interested in you. Because, you, boy, are going to enter the royal household as the prince's fiancé. Imagine the look on Laura's face if I ruin her plan." Lilian spoke with such excitement that Kayden found it baffling.
Oh no. This fairy had finally lost her mind. Seduce a prince—and now become his fiancé? Even Cinderella, the gold-digger, hadn't gotten this far.
"You see, that's where you're wrong. How the f—" Kayden paused, remembering this was a historical setting where nobody knew his modern-day slang. Damn it, this was getting on his nerves.
"Okay, lady, let's see—even if I wanted to go seduce the prince, have you forgotten one crucial thing? I'm a nobody, apparently. Not to mention my dressing—who the hell's gonna look twice at a man dressed like a beggar? So this plan of yours isn't going to work. Better give up now—or better still, stop your sister yourself, Laura or whatever you call her, and free me."
Kayden deadpanned and turned, ready to burst out of there and find food before he collapsed any minute. But Lilian's sudden change in tone made him freeze in his tracks.
"You can't escape this, Kayden. And no matter what you do, you're entangled in the dark conspiracy going on. By any chance you refuse to do what I've asked—prepare yourself, because you'll die in three weeks' time." Lilian threw the bomb, and as if that wasn't enough, she disappeared, whispering haunting words:
"Now you're on your own. I would've helped you, but it appears you're too arrogant. So do your thing yourself—or risk dying the most painful and brutal death ever."
Lilian honest words made Kayden wince, it might have seem like Kayden Shawn body right now was an insignificant character unfortunately he wasn't.
The plot was fighting for its original storyline, and even if it's to eliminate Kayden it will do so immediately.
And with that, she vanished like smoke, never to be seen again.
Kayden's expression shifted. For the first time since he got here, his eyes began watering, tears threatening to fall.
Why was he so unlucky? First, his manuscript got rejected, and not only that—he got hit by a trailer or bus or whatever the hell caused that accident. He had no idea. So now he was as good as dead in the real world. And he'd just started feeling happy, thinking life had given him another chance—nope. It was all a cruel joke.
And once again, he was fighting for his life. And if, by any chance, he didn't seduce the prince within three weeks, he was going to die. And wouldn't seducing the prince—and ruining Cinderella's story—have brutal consequences?
Suddenly, he was snapped out of his thoughts by the sound of an approaching carriage rumbling his way. He shifted aside, and like a wild cat, he snuck away, running into the courtyard.
He had something to do. But first, he needed to find food to eat—while monitoring the stepmother and her two daughters. Because by the look of things, they were planning on eliminating Cinderella. And he was pretty sure that did not happen in the main storyline.
Well…things were about to turn darker.
