Biter

Sebas Aren - Spending money on useless things (Chapter 12)

“Why is your class labeled [Sealed].”

“I don’t know!” The boy named Adam Rynard said, extremely cheerfully might I add. “Why is your head that shade of red, it should normally be a bit duller and not quite so… rubylike… right?” The boy asks back.

“I’m what’s considered a “mutation” birth, my parents tried to make an ultimate skill through their… “union,” and I, unlike my kid-brother, had developed red roots when I was the age of 9. I was blonde till then, just like the rest of my family.” Sebas answers, looking disgusted by the ashen plateless boy’s gushing. “What does your trait, (Looter), do?”

“I don’t know!!!” The boy says, even more excited, “it-“

They are both interrupted by a pair of food trays, sitting at a dilapidated table near the trash bins in the “tavern” part of the guild hall. Three sliced and seared cuts of bloody game meat… I guess rabbit, along with bread, they love bread here.

The excitable boy is distracted from his question, the somewhat mediocre food seems to bring joy to his eye… kind of like a dog…

“Can you use your skill on this?” Sebas asks, handing Adam a wooden fork. A strange effect of several blue squares makes the object dissipate before Adam pulls it out from behind Sebas’ ear. “Tada~”

“So… you have no idea what your trait is, and you have a non-offensive skill, but you have a mastery trait, which isn’t bad…”

This kid is a strange one. “Ms. Raven and Ms. Dana said that you’re pretty strange too!”

Oh did they? He thinks, to himself, looking across the room to the guild booths holding the presumably gossiping workers. I’ll remember this.

“Ms Dana also said that you! Defeated a horned rabbit on your first day, one of the other guildsmen was chatting you up! I think she said his name was Mr Elimir?” That drags the attention back to the boy in front of him.

“You talk a lot,” Sebas says with a monotonous bluntness. “You also listen a lot, which… I guess is good. How old are you.”

“16!” He says through a mouthful of food.

“Hmm, same here, you know how to allocate your stats and whatnot when you level up?” Sebas asks, to which the plateless boy shakes his head.

“We will deal with it later I suppose…”

“… you eat way too much,” Sebas says

“Hehe~”

“THAT’S NOT A GOOD THING.”

“Oh come on, what’s a few coins between us adventurers.”

“Few coins… few coins… mumble grumble few coins my foot…”

“Besides, big bro, with me at your side, I’ll help you make so much money!”

“Oh? You shit gold or something?”

“No big bro, I thought about it, it’s in the name; (Looter), clearly that’s one bonafide way to get loot!”

“Ah, yes of course it is, of course,” Sebas says before punching Adam in the head. “I know I said you could eat but fuck’s sake Adam, where the hell are you from that you can eat 3 servings of rabbit and a loaf of bread?”

Holding his head where a small lump grows, Adam responds “Where I’m from huh? It’s pretty far away, what about you?”

Signing, Sebas answers “ I’m originally from Bermenna, to the west of here, but I got sick of all the people around there… people suck Adam.”

“But what about around here?” He stops in front of Sebas, just to ask, staring into Sebas’ eyes with these strange sparkles of curiosity.

“I mean… it’s alright… I’m kind of like a street rat around here. I. I used to eat rotten food out of dumpsters, at least until recently.”

“That’s horrible! Nobody took care of you?”

Sebas laughs, and the strange boy is shoved by him, as he forces him to move forward. “Shut up with all the stupid questions, you’re too fat to be sitting in the way, we need to buy a blade dammit. I’m not giving you my dagger.”

He’s staring at the sign, gods know why… almost said Yzdite like my old master… “What, are you allergic to doors?” Sebas asks, before shoving the younger boy through the doors to “The Chipped Anvil”

“Miss J-… Miss Fayeth, I brought my…” Sebas stops and looks down at the black-haired human he brought. “I brought a rookie adventurer, hoping to get something he could use?”

“You were going to say friend,” Adam says to Sebas before a slight shove goes his way.

“Well,” She begins, placing a hand out “ it’s very nice to meet you, I see you know Sebas, he’s quite the unique character.” She says with a smile. “My name is Jenva Fayeth, nice to meet you.”

“Adam, Adam Rynard, madam.” He says, with an impressive deepening of his voice. Acting rather today.

“Yeah, anyway is there anything you have for less than a silver Miss Fayeth?” Sebas asks,

“I’m sure there is, let me take a look.”

The elven-to-be wife of Mr Gis moves around behind the counter. Sebas, fed up with the strangeness shakes Adam, who just decides to snicker audibly at him.

“Here you are, how’s this look?”

[ Well-Made Iron Blade ]

{ Common }

25/25 Durability

+5 Attack

The skill: [Lowest Rank Swordsmanship] is created.

“A blade that has developed a sense of care and love for its creator, only certain individuals may wield this blade.”

Sebas looks at the info and shrugs, before gesturing for his cohort to take the blade, “See how it feels rook.”

Adam holds the sword, and a small light flows out as if a candle were snuffed out, a few swift vertical slashes in the air are made, a phantom target destroyed in his mind's eye as he flourishes his made-up target.

“Well? Good enough for ya?” Sebas asks his junior.

“Yeah! This is great!”

“Damn, you like the sword that much huh?”

“Yeah! It’s great too!!”

That is not the correct answer to the question… but whatever.

“How much do I owe ya?” Sebas asks Fayeth

“That one’s on discount for cute adventurers, how’s 60 Copper coins sound?”

“Miss Fayeth… please… I can’t afford that much… I simply have too much to provide for… including my kid brother over here.” Focus honing in onto , full puppy eyes mode for maximum amounts of sympathy.

“Oh… aw… well I can give you a small discount. How does 55 Copper sound?”

Sebas means to extend his use of puppy eyes, his way into a deal never seen before. “Please? Miss Fayeth?”

The elf girl appears shell-shocked by the redhead, only for her focus to be broken by a muffled yelling from the back of the store.

“IF THAT BRAT CAME BACK WITHOUT A DAMN PENNY I WILL BREAK HIS LEGS,” Gis yells.

“I’m sorry, Sebas… that won’t be happening…” the renewed vigor on the elf lady’s face appears… almost stoic as if she wasn’t succumbing to the charms of the street rat ways. “Sebas… did you happen to have a skill called bartering? I got a very… very interesting amount of skill experience just now…”

A few beads of sweat drip from Sebas’ forehead as he backpedals “Say, Miss Fayeth… 60 Copper doesn’t sound bad…”

Adam pipes up, “It’s a really good sword!!! That’s a steal!”

Jenva Fayeth stares Sebas down with a glint in her eyes that shoves daggers through his soul. “I must inform you that the skill I just leveled up… was Sebas… you wouldn’t… lie to me would you?”

Sebas laughs sheepishly with zero shame. A small attempt to save face is made, as he wrings his hands together and mutters… “n-no… dear customer.”

[Coin purse - 3S 80C -> 3S]

Sebas, staring at his thinning coin sack, proceeds to punch his cute junior in the back of the head. “GREAT SWORD? GREAT SWORD?? DO YOU WANT ME TO END YOU?” He yells, pulling his junior by the ears.

“I’m- Ow!-sorry!” Adam yells from his pain.

“Hey! Hey! Sebas!” Adam says, in the same annoying, cheerful tone. “What’s the [Bite] skill like?”

“Oh… so you saw that huh… it’s a skill I suppose..”

“No, I mean what is it like? Do you get to charge your teeth with mana, or do you take on the spirit of a wolf?”

“… no, neither of those… I just… [Bite] monsters I guess?” Sebas kicks a rock on the cobbled trail towards the north entrance to Eruka’s alternative dungeon entrance: while the southern, and southeastern entrances are right next to each other, they proceed to enter the same area, right outside of the Eruka forest’s entrance. The northern entrance decided to pop up its entrance within a windmill, making it quite the attraction and populated part of town.

Sitting on the cobbled road up against a house next to Adam, Sebas sits and checks his gear again.
