Birth Of The Crafts-God

Chapter 186: Briefing 2

"The Stygian Abyss."

The Red Fangs director widened his eyes in shock.

"The what?" The rest were a bit confused, even the commissioner.

The director turned to the city-lord who nodded at him.

"The Stygian Abyss is a terrorist organisation that operates on a galactic scale. In other words, they aren't originally from here."

"Galactic terrorists?" Everyone was shocked.

Galactic terrorist organisations weren't people they could deal with. Since they normally had bases in multiple star regions and solar systems, these groups had access to large manpower, funds, and even advanced technology. It would then make sense why they had such space-bombs in their possession, but this didn't calm them at all; on the contrary, it made them even more afraid.

For Galactic terrorist organisations, wiping out a city-state such as Baylands was as easy as making coffee.

"Yes, but they're most likely just some remnant scum that made their way over to the Kellan solar system. If they were a major branch, we wouldn't have lasted this long." The director said.

Everyone suddenly froze at those words. There was a mix of shame, denial, and awkwardness, but they all knew that what he said was the truth.

"How can you be so sure?" A lieutenant colonel from one of the fifteen districts asked with a curious look on his face.

"You can look up that line on the Blue Mist Star net." The director calmly answered.

Whereas the Kellan Solar System Intranet covered only the solar system, the Blue Mist Star Net was a much larger intranet that covered all the solar systems in the Blue Mist star region, including the Kellan solar system. The KSSI could be described as a miniature branch network of the Blue Mist Star Net.

No one said anything, while some of them actually went on to check. The city-lord knew this and didn't continue the meeting, choosing to give them enough time to confirm their search.

In less than a minute, a strange look flashed in the eyes of a few while some of them sighed.

"Since you have all confirmed the veracity of the report, let us continue." The city-lord said with a placid tone.

It was obvious that he knew about the Stygian Abyss and had identified them as well from the phrase, just like the Red Fangs director did.

"If they're galactic terrorists, isn't this out of our ability?" A director from the Baylands City Patrol Corps said. He was the director from Alleva district.

"In a way." The Lieutenant Colonel General spoke up.

"We have reports coming in that the same situation occurred in two other city-states apart from us. And like those city-states, important personnel were assassinated in the dark, albeit this part is yet to be confirmed."

"So what? Are they trying to cause mayhem or something?" The commissioner of police frowned.

"Not quite." The Red Fangs director spoke up again.

At this point, the two were used to him doing this and no one bothered to rebuke him for it.

"The last time, we made the previous mistake of brushing the matter off. This time around, we are taking it for granted; as an act of rebellion or a move to make a statement. However, what if there's actually a hidden plot within all of this?"

Everyone suddenly went quiet and creased their brows in thought.

"And what would that be?" A lieutenant colonel from one of the fifteen districts asked.

"A distraction. What if all of this is a distraction of theirs. Or what if this is a step to a more complicated goal?" The Red Fangs director said.

"So many what ifs, but we can't be sure of anything. At this point, what difference does it make?" A Patrol Corps director was at the seventh level interrupted.

The Red Fangs director didn't say anything, choosing to ignore the latter.

"No matter what it may be, we have to figure it out." The city-lord finally spoke up.

Everyone immediately turned serious and they realised that he was about to give his orders.

"Sweep through the entire city-state and look for traces of the Stygian Abyss; most especially Alleva district and Baylands City. They have carried out massive attacks in these regions, proving that they have the ability to go in and out. This implies that they have connections rooted within these locations. I want those connections found and uprooted. The other districts should also take note to ensure that they don't become victims.

"Security should be tightened in Baylands City, and the city remains under lockdown for the next forty-eight hours. Compensation packages should be offered to the family of the deceased, and I want border security tightened. All efforts should be put into making sure that this incident never repeats itself again

"Since this is a matter of galactic terrorists, I will contact the other city-lords and inform them. After that, I will make a report to the Oklo Dynasty about the matter, informing them of the presence of complex space-bombs in the area.

"Even if they're galactic terrorists, I want everyone to know that we have to do our best to stop them and protect the city we love. That will be all."

"What about the press? What should we tell them?" The commissioner of police asked.

It was impossible to keep the truth hidden from the public, however, being honest would cause problems. If the people were to find out that a terrorist organisation had managed to carry out a large scale assault in the most secure place in the entire city-state, one could imagine the unrest and pandemonium the information would cause. Hence, it was necessary for a proper explanation to be given.

"Draft a statement to be released to the press in the next hour. Tell them the truth, but omit the Stygian Abyss. Place the blame on the Western Front Liberation Army" The city-lord said.

The Western Front Liberation Army was a popular terrorist organisation in Eretre that had started all the way from the west of the Groeten continent, hence the name 'Western Front'. They had grown to such a powerful level by absorbing the other terrorist groups on the continent, and forming a merger with another powerful organisation from a different continent, the Liberation Army.

The current Western Front Liberation Army was now a force almost on par with a city-state, and it was taken as a serious opponent by the eleven city-states. Digress city-state was not a target of the Western Front Liberation Army, so they didn't engage in fights with them either. As for the Oklo Dynasty's city-state, it was suicidal for the Western Front Liberation Army to even attack them. The Oklo Dynasty also wasn't a fan of bullying the weak, so they didn't bother with the terrorist organisation that they saw as harmless.

The commissioner, the chief of police, and even the lieutenant colonel general all widened their eyes in surprise to the city-lord's statement. To let the people know the truth of the matter was going to be problematic, and would have severe consequences.

"But-"

The city-lord waved his hand and cut the commissioner off.

"That is my command."

With the city-lord saying this, the commissioner and all the others went silent.

"The Patrol Corps should be on the lookout. If this is indeed the work of the Stygian Abyss, they would want to make a difference in this time. Take note of any suspicious individuals during this period."

With that, the city-lord ended the briefing.
