Binjiang Police Affairs

Chapter 423: Does It Matter?

At eight o'clock in the morning, the waters of Binjiang Port.

The Changhang Bureau's motorboats, the Water Police Station's speedboats, the border inspection station custody squadron's traffic boats, and the Port Supervision Bureau's Supervision Boats, with their flashing police lights, patrolled the river to caution passing vessels to give way.

On the dock, there was a guard post every three steps and a sentry post every five steps.

The outer perimeter was manned by the Economic Police of the Port Authority, while inside, police and armed Border Guards from the Changhang Bureau, the Binjiang Border Defense Corps, and the Binjiang Entry and Exit Border Control Station were stationed.

Director Chen and Director He, joined by Chief Gao and the Changhang Bureau's Vice Director Ding, arrived at the dock early to introduce City Agricultural Bureau's Director Liu, who had also come early, and to wait for the escort fleet.

"Director Liu, Comrade Zhou Hong, thank you for supporting our border security work."

"Chief Gao, there's no need for thanks; this is all part of our duty."

The sense of accomplishment from helping was so great that it even afforded an audience with the leaders!

Director Liu was clearly elated but quickly added, "Actually, the ones who should be grateful are us. The Water Police Station and the Changhang Bureau help us every year on the river to combat illegal eel fry fishing, and the Coast Guard also assists us annually in the protection of fishery resources at sea."

"Working together in cooperation and helping each other is how work should be done."

Just as Chief Gao had let go of Director Liu's hand, Director Ding introduced with a smile, "Chief Gao, this is the father-in-law of Comrade Han Yu, the acting director of Bailong Port Police Station who is leading the search and intercept mission—Comrade Han Shuqun, the deputy chief engineer from the Binjiang Meteorological Bureau.

The maritime weather is fickle and the search and interception at sea coincided with a typhoon. To ensure the safety of law enforcement vessels and personnel involved, Master Han has been working nonstop at the meteorological office, and through the radio of the Fishery Command, he has been reporting the latest weather updates every twenty minutes, providing timely meteorological support for the operation."

Even as an Assistant General of the Armed Police, it is an honor to serve as a leader!

Friend Han was visibly excited, swiftly coming to attention and saluting: "Greetings, Commander!"

Chief Gao instinctively saluted back, then firmly grasped Friend Han's hand with a smile, "Master Han, have you served in the military?"

"Reporting to the Commander, I was transferred from the Air Force and had worked for twenty-one years in the Air Force Meteorological Station before my transfer."

"What year did you enlist?"

...

An active-duty Assistant General has common ground with a retired military man.

Director Chen quietly gave Director He a thumbs up, while Director He simply smiled.

Military men indeed enjoy interacting with fellow soldiers; learning that Friend Han enlisted earlier than himself, Chief Gao even called Friend Han "old platoon leader."

Old Han was flattered, repeatedly saying that he did not dare accept the title.

"If you enlisted before me, aren't you the old platoon leader? There is nothing you shouldn't accept."

Chief Gao held onto Friend Han's hand tightly, then laughed again, "A son-in-law is like a half-son, old platoon leader. You provided meteorological support from behind, while your son-in-law is on the frontline conducting the search and interception. You two are like father and son soldiers going into battle together!"

Not only were many reporters present today, but the City Bureau, Blank Captain of the Border Guard Branch Corps, and several public relations police officers from the Changhang Bureau were also there. They rushed forward to take pictures at a gesture from Director He.

Having never had a photo opportunity with the commanders while in the military, Old Han now found himself able to take a picture with a leader after transferring to civilian work.

Old Han was overjoyed, eagerly saying, "Commander, you flatter me. Even if 'Salted Fish' didn't go to sea for the mission, I would still need to monitor the situation in the office. The weather can change unpredictably, so every time severe weather hits, it's our busiest time."

The director and Political Commissioner from the border station were also present today.

Although the smuggling case had little to do with the border inspection station, Chief Gao was the head of the Jiangnan Police Border Defense System. With Chief Gao's visit to Binjiang, they must accompany him and, if possible, report on the work of the border inspection station.

However, with Chief Gao engrossed in lively conversation with the "old platoon leader," they did not dare to intrude and could only wait anxiously on the side.

The most frustrated of all was Chen Xiangyang.

After putting in so much work and barely sleeping the night before, he finally had the opportunity to meet the senior leaders but had to stand aside, even missing out on a photo opportunity.

Director He saw this clearly and approached with an understated remark: "Captain Chen, you've worked hard."

"Not at all."

"Not sleeping well all night, with dark circles under your eyes—it must be hard."

"I only stayed up for one night. Compared to 'Salted Fish' and the others, it's not much of a hardship."

There was an implied message in his words; it seemed that he was not entirely content.

Director He patted his arm and didn't say more, smiling as he returned to Director Chen's side.

Director Chen was all too aware of the tension between the Changhang Bureau and the Port Authority; he even had aggravated the situation in the past and now, covering his mouth to suppress a laugh, he said, "Director He, spare others when you can; you have the capacity to endure, so let's not hold a grudge against Old Chen."

"I've never intended to hold a grudge; it's always him challenging me."

"Give me this favor; I'll play mediator and we can iron things out over a meal, letting bygones be bygones."

"Director Chen, are you implying that you're the one to untie the bell that you rang?"

"What do you mean by that?"

"If you hadn't backed him up, would he have been able to jump around so merrily?"

"That's a misunderstanding," Director Chen laughed heartily and immediately raised his arm, "Salted Fish and the others have arrived, and 001 is here too."

Director He inwardly labeled him as sly and quickly went to alert the leaders.

Following the lingering sound of the ship's horn, 001 and the Fishery Administration Ship docked first at the pier.

Then, two 'unregistered, unlicensed, and unsignaled' fishing boats followed.

The soldiers of the border inspection station custody squadron were accustomed to patrolling the river and were all skilled in handling moorings; they promptly moved forward to assist with tying down the boats as planned.

The Coast Guard vessel 3201 brought up the rear, not docking, but mooring alongside the port side of the unregistered fishing boats, joined by 001 and the Fishery Administration Ship, sandwiching the two vessels carrying over a hundred smuggling passengers against the quayside.
