Chapter 292: Chapter 292: The Persistent Mrs. M

John Wick thought about his past combat experiences and realized that William was probably right—most of his previous missions didn't require much thinking.

Seeing John Wick remain silent, William laughed heartily and said, "Figured it out? Good. Take a couple of days off, and I'll call you for the next mission. Goodbye."

"Goodbye, sir," John Wick replied helplessly.

After hanging up, William turned to Sunday and said, "Get me in touch with Antonov, the leader of the Polar Bear team who was on a mission in Sierra Leone last month."

"Yes, sir, connecting now," Sunday responded.

After a few rings, the call connected.

"Hello, good morning, Mr. Devonshire. What can I do for you?" Antonov's voice sounded a bit tired in William's earpiece.

William, puzzled, was reminded by Sunday, "Sir, it's 4 AM in Moscow right now."

"Oh, sorry, Antonov, I forgot about the time difference. But since you're awake, listen to what I have to say before going back to sleep."

"No problem, Mr. Devonshire. What do you need?" Antonov quickly replied.

"How many from your last mission stayed in Africa as mercenaries?"

Without hesitation, Antonov answered, "Only 11 stayed behind. The others took their money and went home. Are you looking to hire those who stayed?"

"No, I'm not interested in people with no ties. This mission is in your home country, targeting a significant figure. Interested?"

"May I ask how many people you need and what the cleanup entails? Mr. Devonshire, I trust you won't shortchange us, but if the target is important, we might face pursuit from both the authorities and the underworld back home. If our identities are exposed, those involved, including our families, would be at risk. So, I have to consider the aftermath, sir."

"Haha, you're right. It seems some of your people are fit for this mission. I'll make arrangements for your families to move to Switzerland or directly to England to work for me.

If they go to England, I'll ensure they have jobs and homes in Oxford. Now, tell me, how many of your men can be trusted and have families?"

Antonov took a few seconds before answering, "I trust three of them completely. They all have parents, wives, and children. They were my most trusted comrades in the army. If that's not enough, I can recruit some trustworthy young men from my old unit."

"No," William interrupted without hesitation, "Four, including you, is enough. I don't trust people I've never worked with or who don't have families."

"Understood, sir," Antonov said, unfazed by William's interruption. In fact, he was pleased with William's caution.

For someone like Antonov, who had no great ambitions, securing stable, well-paying jobs for his parents and wife was more important than risking everything in his homeland. As for the possibility of them being used as hostages, it was all about perspective.

Having his family work for William not only reassured William but also gave Antonov peace of mind. It greatly reduced the likelihood of anyone in his team developing ulterior motives.

"Very well. You have three days to prepare. I'll send a plane to Moscow. I'm sure you'll find a suitable reason to leave the country.

It would be best to send your families to Switzerland before you act. Someone will meet them at a resort there to wait for you."

Antonov thought for a moment and then said, "Sir, it would be better if the plane flew to Belarus first. After the mission, my team and I could drive from Belarus to Lithuania and then to Poland, making it harder for anyone to trace us. The only issue is money."

"That's a good plan. It seems you've thought about this a lot."

"We've had to, ever since it became hard to get by. If we hadn't met you, we might have ended up fighting in some other war by now."

William chuckled. The only reason he had hired Antonov's team for the last mission was because they were cheap. However, after working with them once, William had a good impression of Antonov, which is why he considered them for this mission.

"I'll have the money on the plane that picks you up. It's not much, just £25,000 per family as a settlement fee and £5,000 for travel expenses—a total of £120,000, which you'll receive once you're on board.

I can guarantee that your families won't go hungry or homeless because of a lack of work. As for whether they can live a wealthy life, that depends on you."

"Thank you, sir. That's more than enough," Antonov said gratefully.

Though the conditions weren't luxurious, they were enough to set Antonov's mind at ease.

This was why William preferred to hire people with families. Those with loved ones were more cautious, and as long as their employer treated them well, they were usually easy to satisfy.

"The specifics of the mission will be explained in person by someone I'll send to Moscow. Follow his instructions, understood?"

"Understood, sir."

"Good. Goodbye."

"Goodbye, sir."

After hanging up, William instructed Sunday to keep an eye on any flights from Russia to Boston over the next few days, as well as to monitor Boston police officers with ties to Russian gangs.

Three nights later, while William was having dinner with a beautiful Italian student he met during a daytime tour of Boston's landmarks and planning to "work out" together afterward, Sunday's voice came through his earpiece. "Sir, the corrupt Boston cop you've been monitoring is heading to the airport. I've checked the flight arrivals, and a private jet from Russia is scheduled to land at Boston airport at 8 PM."

Finally, they're here, William thought, feeling a thrill. Holding the hand of the beautiful woman named Gina, he said with regret, "It's been great getting to know you, Gina, but unfortunately, I have work tonight and can't go shopping with you."

"Perhaps you could bring your work to my dorm," Gina said, throwing him a flirtatious glance. "If you don't mind, my roommate and I could help you with your work, and then we could have a drink?"

Two at once? William hesitated for a moment, but Gina added, "Luna is not only a beautiful Spanish girl, but she's also a top student in Boston University's management program."

Initially, William had been tempted, but after hearing this, he immediately grew cautious. He didn't believe that a top student in Boston University's management program would be willing to serve someone with her roommate. Even if she did, it would be because they wanted something from him.

William wasn't a fool who couldn't resist every pretty face he saw, and now that he was suspicious, he definitely wouldn't go. "Sorry, Gina, but tonight really isn't a good time. Maybe next time."

He snapped his fingers, and the restaurant manager, who had been waiting nearby, approached. "Mr. Devonshire, is there anything I can assist with?"

"Could you please arrange to have the lovely Miss Gina escorted home?"

"Of course, sir. I assure you she'll be taken home safely."

"Great, then let's settle the bill."

"Right away, sir."

After sending the reluctant Gina on her way, William returned to the presidential suite at the Four Seasons Hotel and asked Sunday, "Did you find anything?"

"Yes, sir. I monitored Gina's phone. The conversations were nothing out of the ordinary, and she genuinely met you by chance today. However, an interesting name came up in one of the calls—Mrs. M."

"The dead Mrs. M?" William asked in surprise.
