Billionaire in Kingsman with a Marvel System

Chapter 275: Chapter 275: Arrogance Can Be Deadly

Although Kevlar has been around for a while, it has two fatal flaws: it degrades under UV light and hydrolyzes when exposed to water, which means its bulletproof effectiveness gradually diminishes in high humidity. The new material William introduced not only avoids these issues but is also thin enough to be made into any type of outerwear. With these advantages, this new type of bulletproof suit would sell itself. Even if William didn't offer them shares, Catherine and Gareth would still be motivated to help promote it just for the money. Now that shares were on the table, they were even more driven, not concerned at all about meeting the 300-suit target.

Catherine even thought that with her connections, she could easily sell 300 suits just in England.

After the deal was settled, the three of them finally got down to business.

As the future financial backer, Catherine, a traditionally stern middle-aged woman, was now somewhat deferential when speaking to William. "William, after everything is done, I should treat you to a grand dinner to show my gratitude."

"That's easy," William replied, checking his watch before saying to Catherine, "It's 3:10 now. If you give the order, my people can wrap this up by 5:00, and then we can enjoy a relaxed dinner. I know a newly Michelin three-starred restaurant in Chelsea. Their head chef, Gordon Ramsay, makes an excellent pan-seared cheese and chicken sandwich."

Gareth chimed in, "Is that the same one we had at your castle last time?"

William nodded. "Exactly."

"If that's the case, it's definitely worth a visit," Gareth said, turning to Catherine. "Catherine, I strongly recommend you try it. Chef Gordon Ramsay's culinary skills are exceptional, and I've heard their prices aren't too steep."

"Alright, we'll try it after we're done," Catherine said, swayed by their enthusiasm.

"Beep... Beep..." The phone on Catherine's desk rang. She pressed the speaker button and asked sternly, "What is it?"

"Ma'am, Commander Richard Bloomley from London's Special Terrorist Response Team is here, and 007 would also like to see you."

"Let them in," Catherine replied. With M's recent incident, it wouldn't be appropriate to refuse to see Bond.

Soon, Bond and Commander Bloomley entered the office, led by the secretary.

William stood up, shook Bond's hand, and patted him on the shoulder. "My condolences, Craig."

"Thank you," Craig responded, though his expression was stiff. "It's all my fault. If I hadn't told M about your plan, she wouldn't have insisted on bringing Silva back to England. I should have taken him out on that island."

"Don't dwell on it. You're here just in time—we were just discussing how to take down Silva."

Commander Bloomley, hearing this, exchanged a glance with Catherine.

Catherine nodded. "That's right. William has some information, and we were just discussing how to capture Silva."

"What do you mean? Have we already located the mastermind, Silva?" Bloomley asked in surprise. "If we knew his whereabouts, why did M end up getting killed?"

"That's something you should ask Mr. Bond," Gareth said sternly. "How did Silva manage to escape from Special Branch?"

"Well, um..." Bond stammered, unable to provide a satisfactory answer. He didn't want William and Bloomley to know about the mistakes made by Special Branch.

"Tell me the reason," Catherine ordered, her mind quickly assessing the situation.

Bond, his expression conflicted, finally explained, "We were careless. The laptop we recovered had been preloaded with a Trojan horse by Silva. When we attempted to crack it, the Trojan infiltrated our servers and unlocked Silva's cell. He escaped through the underground passage."

This admission left everyone frustrated. This was clearly a case of gross negligence.

"Wait a minute," William suddenly asked, "If you knew Silva had escaped, why didn't you inform M or us? If we had known in advance, we could have set a trap and avoided M's death entirely."

"We sent a message to M's assistant, Bill. I just asked him, and he told me that M insisted on finishing the hearing before leaving. No one expected Silva to act so quickly, or that he had help in London," Bond explained.

Gareth sneered, "I think it wasn't that you didn't expect it, but that you wanted to handle it internally to avoid a scandal."

Bond had nothing to say in response because that was exactly what he had been thinking. If they had alerted the hearing's security, Silva and his team wouldn't have been able to storm in, even if they were dressed as police officers.

Seeing Bond's reaction, Gareth suddenly started to curse, "This is dereliction of duty! It's criminal stupidity! Now look what's happened: because of your arrogance and overconfidence, we've not only lost M, who was instrumental to our country, but we've also severely damaged our nation's reputation. By tomorrow, the whole world will be laughing at our incompetence and foolishness."

Gareth then turned to Catherine and said, "Ma'am, I suggest we conduct a thorough investigation of Special Branch."

Catherine nodded, "I'll report this to the top brass. Your Security Committee will temporarily take over Special Branch's daily operations until the new head of Special Branch is appointed. As for Silva's capture, Commander Bloomley will be in charge."

She looked at Bloomley and asked, "Is that clear, Commander Bloomley?"

"Yes, ma'am. I guarantee the mission will be completed," Bloomley replied, knowing he had no choice but to accept the task.

"Very well. William, please share the information you have with Commander Bloomley," Catherine said sternly.

"Alright, ma'am," William nodded, silently noting how Catherine and Gareth had deftly shifted responsibility to Special Branch and M, even taking control of Special Branch's command in just a few words.

William continued, "We located Silva by chance. My team had been tracking a black market broker who was recruiting mercenaries to come to England. This broker is known to do anything for money, so when we learned he was bringing in mercenaries, we kept a close watch on them. Initially, we planned to catch them all when they made a move, but after the incident, I ordered my team to follow them quietly and came here to report to Ms. Catherine."

"Where are they now?" Bloomley asked.

William pressed his earpiece, and a voice reported, "Sir, Silva's group is currently in an abandoned warehouse in west London. The commando team is monitoring them from five kilometers away."

"They're in an abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of west London. My team is ready to move in whenever you're ready," William said.

Knowing Silva's location, Bloomley was quick to assert his authority. "No, dealing with terrorist incidents is my jurisdiction. This operation must be handled by my team."

William shrugged, seeing Catherine and Gareth looking at him. "Fine by me, I don't mind."

"Then it's settled. Commander Bloomley, I expect to bring good news to the top brass before I finish work today," Catherine said, her stern expression finally softening into a smile.

"Understood, ma'am," Bloomley replied, saluting before leaving the office. Bond exchanged brief smiles with everyone before following him out.
