Chapter 68: Taiyu

The Outer Sect token which was on the table glowed with brilliant white light.
Ji Yuenian cracked his eyes open and looked at the token on the table, then took it in his hand, and after a moment of silence he got up off the Star Gazing (Guan Xing) Jade Seat.
At this moment, it was still early in the morning, and dawn had yet to come. Looking out from the second floor of the open-air Star-gazing pavilion, the extreme sky was still dotted with bright and magnificent rivers of stars. A bright white moon hung from the heavenly dome above, sprinkling the ancient unchanging silver moonlight.
After taking in the sights, Ji Yuenian walked out of the attic, and the first thing that came into his sight was the demon Lu Mingxi and another disciple in the upper realm of the Nascent Profound Realm.
“Senior Brother Ji, I had no choice but to disturb your practice.”
Lu Mingxi said with a smile, and the persoext to him also stepped forward and greeted him.
As he opened his mouth, there was a hint of a compliment in his tone. “Wangxing Court’s Zhan Ming has seen Senior Brother Ji.”
After a moment of silence, Ji Yuenian turned around, let the two of them into his courtyard, while saying, “No need to be polite.”
As Lu Mingxi and Zhan Ming entered the courtyard, they felt the rich vitality of heaven and earth transformed by the forbidden array, and couldn't help but admire it.
Following Ji Yuenian into the attic, the deer demon with antlers said: “Senior brother Ji, this brother's name is Zhan Ming, he is an extremely rare black-patterned demon tiger. The two of us have come to see Senior Brother Ji, but we have an unpleasant request that we’d like to make.”
Ji Yuenian took the two to the second floor of the courtyard, sat on the spacious Star Gazing Jade Seat, and said, “Junior Brother Lu, it doesn't matter. There is no there is no harm in talking.”
The seat occupied almost half of the second floor of the Star Gazing pavillion. From here, one could watch the river of stars above and the abyss below. The amazement in Lu Mingxi and Zhan Ming's eyes grew stronger the more they looked around.
“This Astral Courtyard is one of the four prestigious courtyards at Xing Yuan Peak. It really lives up to its reputation,” Lu Mingxi first praised Ji Yuenian's courtyard, then said, “Brother Ji is about to serve as a General Disciple of Xing Yuan and holds great power. It will be very inconvenient if there is no one underneath you to beckon wheeeded.”
There were now more than ten General Disciples in the three courts of Xing Yuan Peak. Except for a few old disciples whose cultivation has reached the Returning to the Truth realm, the rest of the disciples are almost all in the upper stage of the Nascent Profound Realm.
Wangxing was one of the courts of Xing Yuan Peak, where there were 110 Outer Sect Disciples in it, and the other two courts also had hundreds of Outer Sect Disciples each. In addition to the many Handyman disciples who had yet to officially entered the sect, Xing Yuan peak, overall, had thousands of disciples!
However, all these disciples were managed by less than twenty General Disciples. Naturally, such governance reduced the efficiency of the management system; therefore, people in favor of these General Disciples could exercise some of their authority and help them govern. These disciples were called Deputy Generals.
Deputy General wasn’t an official post appointed by the peak, but merely a term used by the disciples within the peak. As underlings of the General Disciples, these people wouldn’t have many scruples of abusing their authority and bullying and blackmailing ordinary disciples.
Ji Yuenian wasn’t aware of it until Lu Ming explained it to him, which gave him a glimpse into how the many famous halls functioned.
“Brother Ji, the news that you are going to be a General Disciple has already spread throughout. After dawn, many disciples will come to visit you. Some will even send enormous gifts, just to beg for the title of a Deputy General.” Lu Mingxi said in a low voice with a strange expression.
Ji Yuenian glanced at Lu Mingxi and Zhan Ming, and said, “Junior Brother Lu need not beat around the bush and be direct with it.”
Lu Mingxi said with a smile, “Naturally, I’d like to be a Deputy General under Senior Brother Ji. And as Brother Zhan Ming has a long history with my Lu family, I’d like for him to assist me as we both work under you as Deputy Generals.”
Zhan Ming who remained silent till now took out a wooden box from a storage treasure. He placed it on the table with a slightly pained look in his eye, and said, “Brother Ji, these are 20 primeval stones. A small gift.”
After a little thought, Ji Yuenian said, “You two can be my Deputy Generals. Since this Junior Brother Zhan is acquainted with you, Lu Mingxi, these primeval stones are unnecessary.”
Lu Mingxi shook his head and said, “Senior Brother Ji, twenty primeval stones is not a small sum. The rules cannot be broken, so just accept them.”
Lu Mingxi was the bloodline descendant of Xuan Yuan Peak's master Lu Chongguang. He was someone with a deep background. The only reason for him to come to Xing Yuan Peak was to follow Ji Yuenian.
In other words, he wished to follow someone with the Tong Xuan Heat Ghost Bloodline and someone who had ignited a Grade 4 Heart Fire Sequence.
Therefore, the relationship between the two was extremely ambiguous at this point. Although this matter has not been stated openly, both Lu Mingxi and Ji Yuenian were aware of it.
Ji Yuenian also knew that in a huge sect like Taiyu Holy Sect, where countless forces intertwined, it would be almost impossible for him to walk alone all the time.
Putting away the wooden box containing twenty primeval stones, Ji Yueniaodded and said, “I’ll spend most of my time cultivating here. Even if I am a General Disciple, I have no time to manage these chores. So I’ll leave all the general matters to you.”
Zhan Ming stood up, bowed toward Ji Yuenian, and said, “Please rest assured, Senior Brother Ji.”
Lu Mingxi said with a smile, “Senior Brother Zhan has practiced in the Wangxing (Scattered Stars) Court for many years and has a solid foundation. He also has more than ten disciples in the Upper Profound Realm under his command, so don't worry Senior Brother Ji.”
With Lu Ming's background and position in the Xuan Yuan Peak, there was no need for him to rely on the identity of the Deputy General to gain benefits. The reason he brought Zhan Ming here was just to get closer to Ji Yuenian.
Lu Mingxi got up from the Star Gazing Jade Seat, he walked to the edge of the second floor open-air attic, lowered his head and looked at the ten-thousand-foot abyss beneath his feet, and sighed. “Brother Ji, this courtyard is built next to the abyss. Not only can it rely on the forbidden array to draw power from the stars to transform the vital energy of heaven and earth, it is also quite helpful for cultivating one’s state of mind.”
Zhan Ming on the side nodded and said, “Senior Brother Ji has suppressed hundreds of thousands of living beings in the Luoxia Mountains, and has risen from the ashes to be the first in the Outer Sect.”
After a pause, Zhan Ming seemed to have remembered something. He took out a jade talisman from his sleeve and handed it to Ji Yuenian, saying: “Senior Brother Ji, this is the Taiyu Holy Sect’s secret cultivation technique. This can lead a cultivator from the Profound Realm to the Divine Sea Realm. I’ve engraved a copy some time ago, it’s just as well that I handed to you, Senior Brother.”
Ji Yuenian took the jade talisman, in which several phantoms of the true cultivation art appeared.
“Taiyu Xuan Qing True Spirit Gathering Technique.”
This “Taiyu True Technique” was the basic tantra for all the beings in the Six Mountains and Three Realms of the Taiyu Holy Sect and the Outer Sect of the Luoxia Mountains. It was completely different from the spiritual techniques that Ji Yuenian practiced, such as the “Xian Mi Miao Tong Bu Yun Shen.”
The Basic Heart Secret Art was the true technique that was necessary for nourishing the soul and condensing the profound energy. If Ji Yuehnian had only practiced the secret art without practicing the Basic Heart Techniques, he would never have been able to break through to the Realm of Returning to the Truth.
Up to this point, Ji Yuenian's true secret arts were “The Buddha Mantra of Crossing the Spirit”, “Xian Mi Miao Tong Bu Yun Shen”, and “The True Technique for the Transformation of the Green Wood”. All three of which were divine techniques. Although they could be used to condense out the Xuan Qi, the Xuan Sea, after all, was a functional type of Xuan Qi, and even if it was divine, it could only be used as an auxiliary.
Once the disciple entered the Luoxia Mountains, the mountain peak to which he belonged would naturally pass on “Taiyu True Technique” of the next level. At this time, Zhan Ming directly brought the first three levels of the “Taiyu True Technique” from him. This “Taiyu True Technique” was widely circulated, although it wasn’t a great gift at all, it still made things easier for Ji Yuenian.
“Junior Brother Zhan is generous,” Ji Yueniaodded as he put away the jade talisman, “This True Technique is indeed what I need.”
Even though the master of the Wangxing Court would’ve had to give Ji Yuenian the “Taiyu True Technique” after dawn; nonetheless, Zhan Ming had saved him a lot of time the tedious process of geting one.
“Senior Brother Ji, then the two of us will retire first.”
Lu Mingxi saw that he had almost finished talking, then he bowed to Ji Yuenian and retired.
Once their agenda was fulfilled, Lu Mingxi got up and bowed to Ji Yuenian before taking his leave. Zhan Ming too got up after him and bowed respectfully in succession.
Ji Yuenian shook his head slightly and said, “This is my first time being a host here, as such I did not have time to prepare tea. I hope the two junior brothers don’t blame me.”
“We don't dare, Senior Brother is too kind.”
Ji Yuenian sent Lu Mingxi and Zhan Ming out of the attic, looked up at the sky that had turned bright. He thought for a moment, re-sealed the protective formation of the Astral Court, and went straight to the door of Wangxing Court.
