Chapter 0038: Yusaku's Tragic Incident

Kogoro Mouri watched in the direction where Gin had disappeared, thinking, 'Next time, I won't let you escape so easily.'

The sound of police sirens grew louder as they approached the abandoned dock. As soon as the car doors opened, Eri Kisaki leaped out and ran toward the site of the explosion.

Inspector Megure shouted after her, warning of the danger, but Eri didn't listen. She sprinted past the fallen Yusaku Kudo, murmuring prayers under her breath, "Kogoro, Yukiko, please, you both must be okay!"

Inspector Megure gritted his teeth and followed with his gun drawn. It was his first time handling such a chaotic case—late-night murder, a stolen treasure sword, a high-speed car chase in the city, and finally, an explosion at the docks. It felt like a Hollywood blockbuster.

Kogoro Mouri and Yukiko Fujimine instinctively released their hands when they heard someone approaching.

Soon, Eri's voice echoed through the chaos: "Kogoro! Yukiko! Where are you?"

The two quickly responded. When Eri saw Kogoro, she rushed forward and threw herself at him, inspecting him carefully for injuries.

Seeing this, Yukiko's gaze dimmed.

"Hey, hey, Eri, this is too much. I'm the one who was kidnapped, yet you're only worried about your boyfriend?" Yukiko grumbled.

Eri immediately let go of Kogoro and turned to Yukiko. "Sorry, Yukiko, I was so worried that I lost my mind. Are you okay? Did the kidnappers hurt you?"

"I'm fine. I'm the princess of Teitan High. Those kidnappers wouldn't dare touch me," Yukiko said with a bright smile, radiant as spring blossoms.

Kogoro glanced at the smoldering remnants of the yacht and said, "This place isn't safe. Let's talk after we leave. Oh, by the way, how's Yusaku Kudo?"

Eri shook her head, indicating she hadn't paid attention to him.

The three walked toward where Yusaku Kudo had collapsed and soon saw Inspector Megure. Yusaku had already been carried away by officers and rushed to the hospital.

"Are you all okay? What about the criminal?" asked Inspector Megure.

"He escaped on a speedboat," Kogoro replied.

Inspector Megure frowned gravely. "This is no small matter. The criminal was well-prepared, even arranging for a speedboat. This was clearly no amateur operation."

"These tactics don't seem like something an ordinary person could pull off. Inspector Megure, what's the status of Yusaku Kudo?" Kogoro asked, intending to use healing techniques to aid him. But with so many people around, it wasn't the right time.

"He's been sent to Beika Hospital for emergency treatment. It's hard to say if he'll make it. His injuries were... severe," Inspector Megure replied, grimacing as he recalled the gruesome scene of Yusaku's critical injury. Even he reflexively tightened his legs at the thought.

Patting Kogoro on the shoulder, Inspector Megure said, "Kogoro, you really stole the spotlight this time. You and Yukiko should rest for now. Later, we'll need you to give a statement at the station."

He then instructed the officers to escort the three of them to a police car. About half an hour later, after an exhaustive search yielded no new clues, Inspector Megure ordered the team to wrap up and head back.

In the car, Yukiko suddenly remembered Yusaku Kudo, who had been injured because of her, and quickly inquired about his condition.

"Oh, him? His injuries were very serious. Beika Hospital did what they could, but apparently, they couldn't fully treat him. His family arranged for him to be transferred to a hospital in Singapore. You probably won't see him again."

"He won't die, but there might be some lasting consequences," said the officer, unconsciously shifting uncomfortably at the thought.

Hearing this, Kogoro sighed. If Yusaku had been taken to Singapore, there was no way for him to help with healing. Little did anyone know that Yusaku was about to face a life-changing injury.

In the dead of night, on a remote island, Gin and Kuroba Ichi were bound and blindfolded after their daring escape earlier that day.

The sound of high heels echoed through the darkness as their blindfolds were abruptly removed. Before them stood a stunning woman with a dangerously alluring presence. Dressed in black leather, she exuded an aura of dominance, her captivating face radiating a sharp, icy aura.

The woman spoke. "You've both deeply disappointed the Boss. The commotion you caused today was unacceptable, especially you, Gin."

"The Boss is very displeased. This operation has already drawn the attention of the Seoul Han family, and the subsequent plans involving the Suzuki conglomerate are now ruined."

A whip lashed down suddenly, leaving a bloody mark on Gin's brow. His wolfish eyes burned with fury as he glared at the woman before him. "Vermouth."

"The Boss has issued a directive. Gin, you need to retrain." Vermouth smiled, a blood-red rose in full bloom.

"Take him to Death Valley."

At her command, two hulking figures emerged from the shadows and dragged Gin away. Despite the circumstances, Gin's expression remained unmoved, his gaze fixed on Vermouth as he was taken away.

Hearing the name "Death Valley," Kuroba Ichi trembled. Located in the Middle East, it was known as the most terrifying trial site in the organization—a place of certain death, reserved for those guilty of grave errors.

Vermouth placed her hand on Kaito's shoulder, her voice soft and teasing. "What's wrong? Are you scared? Then you'd better complete your next mission successfully, or you'll join Gin there."

With a flick of her knife, Kaito's bindings were cut. He collapsed to the ground, gasping heavily as he watched the mesmerizing yet deadly figure fade into the darkness.
