Chapter 9: Between Books and Flirting
The next day, at Bonesborough Library, Oliver found himself absorbed in two different books: a guide to insect demons and another to beast demons.
"Maybe I should start with the insect demons. They're mostly easier to capture and widely used as ingredients," he thought, quickly turning the pages.
Sitting between the shelves, he analyzed various creatures from the islands.
"The problem is that I don't have any money for equipment, and if I'm going to hunt today, I need to be at school by 2:00."
He closed the book and let out a sigh.
"Since I'm a student and can borrow up to four books for two weeks, I'll take some guides on demons and wilderness survival," he decided, focused on planning.
Before he could finish his thoughts, a voice cut through the air:
"Stop it, you idiots!"
Oliver turned to see Amity Blight approaching, looking furious. She was easy to recognize: pale skin, golden eyes, and short, asymmetrical mint-green hair. She wore a short-sleeved black dress and purple leggings that showed off her pert ass, and black shoes with gold crescent-shaped buckles.
She ran towards him, but soon realized she was looking up. Looking at the spot she was watching, Oliver saw the Blight siblings, Edric and Emira, throwing a bottle of glitter at him from the top of the bookshelf.
Without thinking twice, Oliver activated a tentacle and propelled himself to the left, dodging the vial with agility.
"Too bad, he managed to dodge it," Edric said, smiling, a mischievous glint in his eyes.
"Damn it, Amity, you ruined another joke," Emira grumbled, exasperated with her sister.
Amity, irritated, replied firmly: "My work environment is not a playground for your jokes."
"Come on, no one got hurt," Edric said, still laughing, not noticing Oliver's tentacles wrapping around his and his sister's feet, pulling them down.
"I wouldn't say that," a dry voice said, interrupting the conversation. The Blight siblings were pulled to the ground, upside down, by Oliver's tentacles.
"Well, it seems I've been graced with the Blight brothers' antics today," Oliver commented, arms crossed and a cold gaze.
"I'm sorry for them. I promise they'll be expelled immediately, so please let them go," Amity tried to intercede, still angry with her brothers, but trying to defend the situation.
"It must be hard for you, Amity. Being the youngest and most sensible of these troublemakers," Oliver said, swinging his siblings back and forth with his tentacles.
She sighed in exasperation, "You have no idea… wait, how do you know my name?"
"I also study at Hexside. It's hard not to know the best student in the Abominations track," Oliver replied, with an enigmatic smile.
Amity blushed visibly and looked away, surprised by the unexpected compliment from the extremely attractive red-haired boy. Her body heated up for some reason.
"I-it's not that big of a deal," she muttered, visibly embarrassed.
Oliver smiled at the situation and extended his hand politely, "How rude of me. My name is Oliver Levi of the healing path."
"I'm Amity… but I think you already know that, hahaha," she replied, her face even redder, not knowing how to deal with the situation.
"Hey, stop flirting and let us go!" Emira, head down, complained impatiently.
Oliver shrugged, laughing. "As you wish." Then he released his brothers, throwing them into the glitter scattered across the floor.
"I'll see you at school, Amity," Oliver said, waving goodbye. He turned and walked toward the counter, carrying the books he needed.
"B-bye!" Amity replied, still a little embarrassed.
"What a jerk," Edric complained, trying unsuccessfully to remove the glitter from his body.
"Yeah... but he's hot, he is," Emira said with a smile, her body slightly heating up for some reason.
"What!?" Edric and Amity said in unison, both surprised. Amity, however, hid a slight jealousy behind her eyes.
"What's up? I'm honest about these things," Emira replied, already walking away, aiming to go back home and take a shower.
"W-wait, you can't be serious," Edric ran after her, clearly surprised.
Amity stood in the hallway, reflecting on the conversation, a slight smile on her face.
appearing on his face.
"Oliver... hm, I'll remember you."
