Chapter 35: Chapter 35: Laughable Debt

Sirus made sure one last time that there were no other humans around and walked to the human camping to the side of the road. Sirus forcefully coughed to gather the human's attention.

The human raised his brow as he went to look behind him, only moving his upper body to look behind.

"Oh hi, can I help you?" the human spoke, but a few moments later he narrowed his old eyes.

'That was better than I planned out.' Sirus thought with a surprised expression.

"M-m-m-monster! G-get away from me, you fiend!" The human quickly attempted to run away but Sirus sighed and grabbed his collar before he could even try to run.

'I take back what I said'

Sirus let go and dropped the human, the human fell on its back and started to cry for his life, curling up into a ball.

"Oi, look human, I just want to ask some questions and you can go back to whatever you were doing, I won't hurt you unless you make me do it." Sirus crossed his arms and looked down upon the shivering human with his glowing red eyes to look even more dominating, hopefully making him talk faster and answer his questions.

However, not to his surprise the human merely screamed for dear life as he tried to run.

"G-get away from me! Mother!!!" He shouted out in a desperate voice.

Sirus, who just stood there and raised a brow, couldn't believe what he heard. "Did he just shout for his mom? A grown man no less. Hah." He shook his head once more time and kicked his foot against the floor, quickly reappearing in front of the human, instead of grabbing his collar he reached out and grabbed his neck

"Listen to me!" Sirus roared as he stared at the human eyes as if staring at his soul. The human quickly stopped struggling a moment later and merely stood there, like a lifeless person who has given up all hope to live any further.

Sirus release him slowly to the ground, after he saw the human no longer trying to run away at his desperate attempt.

"Now, will you answer my questions already or would you rather get killed for acting so shamelessly as an adult who screamed for his mommy?" Quickly after the human merely nodded quickly, dropping down on his butt.

"Good, now is there a town around here or better a city?" Even though he saw a welcoming sign.

The human tried to speak but could only strutter helplessly as he was too scared for his life.

Seeing this, he allowed him to take a few moments to calm himself as much as possible. The human took a deep breath before talking but without stuttering like a scared kitten. "T-there is a town not far t-that way." He pointed in a certain direction but without moving his eyes away from the monster.

Sirus quickly looked in the direction he pointed and indeed it was the same way he was heading.

"Is there like a guild or a tavern where adventures gather to do missions?"

'If there is a place where adventures gather, that means information. Information is key to finding the location where the Holy Church resides.'

The human nodded before answering. "T-there is a tavern where adventurers go to gather and d-do quests. C-can I go now please?" The human nervously gulped as he waited for the monster to let him free, at least that what he hoped.

"Wait a moment, why are you in a rush? Let me see if I have any other questions before I let you go." Sirus started to ponder.

The human didn't dare to talk back so he waited as much as he could without trying to offend the monster that could end his life.

Sirus noticed the book that was on the floor that the human was reading before. "The book, what's the book about?"

The human was surprised to hear that a monster is interested in a book. "The b-book. You can have it but please just let me go."

"Answer the question!" He raised his aura subconsciously without realising, that slightly exploded making the human piss his pants.

"Please don't hurt me!" He fell back and covered his face. "Whatever, you can go after I have left, just to make sure you don't do anything suspicious, so stay silent and lay there until I'm done." The human didn't answer back and quickly nodded.

Sirus looked at him with disgust and snotted. "Eheh, pathetic of a human." He mumbled before he went to look at the book before looting the camp for anything worthwhile.

'A book about myths and legends and nothing but a few bronze Rulen coins?.'

"A book and a few worthless bronze Rulen coins? Even an idiot would carry more if they were camping on the side of the road." The next moment the human rushed over and kowtowed.

"Please! Take anything but my money! I won't survive even until next week when I haven't even paid my debt! I beg of you!"

"You're in debt and you decided to run away from I presume this Kurt's town is your home and now you're camping on the side of the road because of some debt?" The human was merely shocked as he lifted his head and nodded with his mouth dropped.

"Seems I was dead on." He mumbled and thought for a bit. "Let me answer two more questions. Are there guards that guard the entrance to the town?" The human nodded without saying anything. "Then, if I help you pay your debt and you convince the guards to let me in, we both get what we want" Sirus narrowed his eyes at the human making him gulp.

"Y-you are willing to pay m-my debt?" He spoke in a surprised voice as if it's almost too good to be true, after all, he spent begging his family and friends and even strangers to help pay his debt. And this monster is willing to help pay his debt?

"Of course, after you let me in then it's a deal, if not you can forget about getting my help."

"I-i will help, yes I will help!" He signed in relief and kowtowed once more.

"You better not think of reporting me to the guards. Or I will skin you alive before feeding you to the wolves!"

"I-I won't ever think of betraying you!" He cried out.

"Pack your shit and move, I will tell you on the way of what to do." He went and stood by a tree and watched the human pack whatever he had on him in a haste.

2 minutes passed and the human bowed his head. "I-i am ready."

Sirus didn't say a word and began walking down the dirt road and the human silently walked behind without uttering a word.

"By the way, how much is your debt?"

"5 silver Rulen." He muttered, shocking Sirus. "5 silver Rulen?! How damn pathetic are you to have a debt like that? A child can get a job and have more than 5 silver Rulen in two weeks, and you're saying you can't even work for a mere 5 silver Rulen?"

The human didn't know how to respond back and started to cry, feeling embarrassed of being in debt.

'5 silver Rulen is a lot! What does a monster even know about working or having money, h-how can he even speak?!' The human was losing all hope.

"Quit your crying! You're like in your mid-thirties and here I thought you was in debt because you owed someone 100 silvers or higher? Pathetic." The monster shook its head in disappointment. The human nearly had a heart attack. 'Is it serious! 100 silver or higher is what it considers to be a reasonable debt?'

The human looked up at the monster's back with a dumbfounded expression.

Sirus looked back and saw his dumbfounded face. "You really are pathetic, sigh."
