Beloved Bride: Captured by the Top Playboy

Chapter 23: Chapter 23 Leave Her Behind!

"Didn't you say you were already better? I see you're so strong, definitely no problem," Chen Ziqian spoke casually as he walked over and sat down on the sofa, turning on the TV.

"Hey, so noisy!" Suxin couldn't stand it any longer and finally got irritated. She was looking at interview materials, and with the TV that loud, how was she supposed to concentrate and memorize anything?

"If it's too noisy, then go cook some noodles. I'm hungry."

"What's your hunger got to do with me?" Suxin retorted, unamused.

"If I'm hungry, I'll turn up the TV really loud to cover the sound of my stomach growling," Chen Ziqian said shamelessly.

Suxin puckered her lips but still got up; who asked her to owe him a favor? If it wasn't for him taking her to the hospital yesterday, who knows where she'd have ended up because of the fever?

Watching Suxin obediently move to the kitchen and start cooking, Chen Ziqian smugly crossed his legs.

Having a cooking maid at his beck and call felt pretty good indeed!

Suxin cursed the exploitative pretty-boy under her breath while she efficiently made the noodles and even prepared a tomato and egg stir-fry to use as a topping for him.

Chen Ziqian, watching TV, caught a glimpse of Suxin's laptop set aside.

"What were you looking at just now? You seemed so focused?" He grabbed it and saw that it was filled with interview questions.

"Looks like yesterday's interview got passed on, huh? Graduating from T University, that's a prestigious school; is job hunting really that difficult?" Chen Ziqian was surprised, and his eyes suddenly caught the page for "Yuanfang International" at the bottom.

Hearing footsteps behind him, Chen Ziqian quickly sat back down.

"Eat! If it's not tasty, don't complain!" Suxin handed a bowl of tomato and egg noodles to Chen Ziqian, then took another bowl for herself and sat back down on the sofa to eat.

Chen Ziqian took a bite; it tasted pretty good. Maybe he was just too hungry, but the noodles he usually didn't care for now seemed incredibly delicious. In no time at all, he had finished the bowl.

"Mmm, it's quite good," he praised reflexively.

"All I eat most of the time are noodles and fried rice; how could it not taste good?" Suxin gave Chen Ziqian a look like he was an idiot.

"Why don't you cook rice?"

"I can't!"

"Really?" Chen Ziqian said loudly, his perception of her being that all aunts were good at cooking.

"Even if I could, I've never actually cooked any meals before," Suxin replied while eating.

"I think you should try it; you might have a talent for it."

"Not interested, I'm lazy," Suxin openly admitted her shortcomings in front of Chen Ziqian.

"Wow, are you even a woman?" Chen Ziqian said disdainfully.

"I just don't believe that all your girlfriends can cook! So spare me your disdain; I'm not accepting it!" As she spoke, Suxin finished the last bite of her noodles.

Chen Ziqian's gaze returned to Suxin's laptop. "Are you going to interview at Yuanfang International?" He made it sound very casual.

"That's right," Suxin responded. "Laugh if you want, but thanks to your 'good luck,' I got kicked out of the interview at Citibank yesterday."

"I've heard that this company's hiring standards are very strict. Do you have confidence?" For some reason, Chen Ziqian couldn't help but ask more.

"Honestly, no," Suxin answered straightforwardly with a helpless smile. "I just sent out a resume on a whim that day, not really expecting anything. But since there's an opportunity, I have to give it a try."

Chen Ziqian didn't say anything more and continued to watch the TV, while Suxin resignedly started to clean up the bowls quickly.

In the morning, Chen Ziqian held a department meeting to arrange work for the Chaohua financing case. The meeting lasted two hours, and by the time it was over, it was already eleven o'clock at noon.

"Monica, what's the work schedule for the afternoon?" asked Chen Ziqian, as he walked back to his office beside his secretary.

Monica quickly flipped through her notebook, looked at it and reported, "At two in the afternoon, you have an appointment with the president of Meixin. At four, there's a high-level company meeting, and at seven in the evening, you need to attend Dongqin's anniversary celebration."

As he listened to the report, Chen Ziqian arrived in front of his own office and said, "Oh, right, isn't our company hiring staff?"

"Oh, yes, that's right. I think there are interviews today. We're hoping to recruit a strong new member for our investment department this year," said Monica with a smile.

"Bring me the resumes of the interviewees, I want to take a look."

"Of course, Director."

Chen Ziqian leaned back in his chair, looking at the resume in his hand. "Cheng Suxin, female, 29 years old, graduated from T University with a major in International Finance. Previously worked at Weilong Import and Export Trading Company, engaged in basic financial work, with five years' experience."

"What Weilong? I've never even heard of it!" Chen Ziqian said dismissively.

His gaze then fell on the one-inch photo attached at the top right of the resume. The girl in the photo had a youthful vitality, a sweet smile that was very infectious.

Such a smile was something he had never seen on Aunt Suxin's face; his eyes fixated on it for a moment.

"Monica, come in!" Chen Ziqian dialed the intercom phone.

Monica came in less than a minute.

"Director!"

"The interview just now, are the hired personnel finalized?" Chen Ziqian looked up at Monica standing in front of him, his voice low and powerful.

"When I went to get the resume just now, I asked about it. It seems our investment department has finally decided on a gentleman who transferred from an investment bank in S city, who I heard is very talented."

The helpless smile on Suxin's face flashed through Chen Ziqian's mind, making him suddenly feel very displeased.

"Keep her for the job too," Chen Ziqian handed Suxin's resume to Monica.

"Director, I'm a bit confused. This lady has been doing non-core financial work for five years, and our company has always only recruited elite business personnel..." Monica glanced at the resume and her expression showed confusion.

"I don't like it when people question how I do things. Just do as I say!" The low voice interrupted Monica's words. Chen Ziqian had a stern look on his face that brooked no further questions.

"Yes, I'll go notify the HR department right away." Seeing the stern look on Chen Ziqian's face, Monica realized her slip of the tongue and quickly shut her mouth.

Watching Chen Ziqian nod his head, Monica turned around, preparing to leave.

"Wait a moment!"

Monica turned back to look at Chen Ziqian.

"Handle this matter discreetly."

"I understand, Director."

Chen Ziqian leaned back in his seat and smiled. He was somewhat puzzled with himself, why had he helped the woman he looked down upon? He had made the comment on a whim, but looking at that resume, he was genuinely curious. A top university graduate, why had she been content to remain in a no-name company, occupying the lowest position for five years? Didn't Aunt Suxin have any ambition at all?

Alright, he would place her right under his watch. He wanted to see if this Aunt was truly as lazy as she seemed.
