Being Overpowered in Akame ga Kill

Chapter 104: 104: Excursion Ends, Return to the Capital

"Gin, Cornelia, you're back?"

Just as Kurome finished dealing with Night Raid, Gin and Cornelia returned one after the other.

While Cornelia was finishing off Loki, Rock, who had been stabbed by Gin with Gáe Buidhe, died shortly after from blood loss—the wound wouldn't stop bleeding.

Haruki never had any doubt that the two of them could handle the agents sent from Revolutionary Army headquarters. He had trained them personally and believed that no one in this world could possibly hurt them.

Now that the two girls at Haruki's side had returned without a scratch, while the two from headquarters were nowhere to be seen, the outcome was clear. Realizing this, the remaining members of Night Raid were plunged into despair. What was meant to be a confident, calculated ambush had completely backfired—they had lost everything.

Not only had they lost two high-ranking operatives from headquarters, especially Rock, who held significant status, they had also lost Lubbock. Even Akame, the trump card of Night Raid's ace, had gone back to the enemy's side.

"Hey, big brother, what happened over here?"

Gin gave only a brief nod in response. That was just how he was—never one to explain more than necessary.

Cornelia, on the other hand, was far more expressive. Returning to Haruki's side, she noticed the state of the Night Raid members and curiously asked, "What's going on?"

"Nothing much," Haruki replied casually. "Just gave them a lesson so they'd stop pestering us."

"Oh… huh? Isn't that Akame? What happened to her?"

Cornelia blinked in surprise as her eyes landed on Akame standing behind Haruki. Her tone quickly shifted to one of concern.

Back in the Assassination Unit, Cornelia had always been the big sister figure, taking care of Akame and the other girls. She had even suffered life-threatening injuries protecting Akame during an ambush on the southwestern border.

Their bond wasn't just close—it was forged through life-and-death struggles.

And back then, during that southwestern mission, all of the girls had shared a bed with Haruki. They say the strongest brotherhoods among men come from going to war, sharing women, and surviving prison together. Maybe for women, it was a little different—but that night together had undeniably brought them all closer.

"Um… I…" Akame hesitated, her voice uncertain and soft.

Still burdened with guilt over her defection to the Revolutionary Army, she didn't know how to explain her return. She hadn't expected to come back, and now that she had, her heart was full of anxiety.

"She wants to come back to big brother," Kurome interjected coldly. Her tone remained distant—clearly still holding resentment over Akame's betrayal and the fact she'd taken part in the ambush alongside Night Raid and the Revolutionary Army.

"Oh, that's wonderful!" Cornelia beamed and patted Akame on the shoulder.

"Kurome… I'm sorry. I shouldn't have left without saying anything. I shouldn't have left you or big brother. Please, forgive me…"

Akame rushed up to Kurome, her red eyes shimmering with unshed tears, her face full of pleading. She was terrified that Kurome might never speak to her again.

Having witnessed the illusions earlier, and after thinking everything through, Akame now clearly understood where Haruki and Kurome stood in her heart. They mattered far more than any so-called cause or utopian dream of a better world.

But seeing Kurome's indifference now, Akame panicked. If Kurome cut her off, her life would feel completely meaningless.

"Kurome, I swear I'll stay by big brother's side from now on. I won't leave either of you ever again. Please… forgive me."

Still ignored by Kurome, Akame was on the verge of tears, pacing around in frustration.

She was no longer the calm, composed warrior she used to be—just a desperate girl fearing the loss of someone precious. It only highlighted how important Kurome truly was to her.

...

With Kurome unmoved by her pleas, Akame turned to Haruki with hopeful, teary eyes. After everything he had done on the journey to the southwestern border, she couldn't help but believe he could do anything.

"Akame… this isn't something I can fix. You'll have to resolve it on your own."

Haruki's heart softened as he saw the pitiful expression on her face. He gently stroked her long black hair.

"Don't worry. Kurome's just upset right now. She'll forgive you eventually."

"Alright, today's outing ends here. Looks like none of you are in the mood to continue, so let's head back."

He turned to the women beside him, then glanced at the Night Raid members.

"As for you assassins—today, I'll let you go for Akame's sake. I don't care what you do in the capital from now on, but don't cross me again. You know what will happen if you do."

With that, Haruki waved his hand, and the horses they had arrived on appeared before them.

"Akame, ride with me."

Before she could respond, Haruki scooped up the blushing Akame in a princess carry, leapt onto the horse, and rode off with the others under the hateful and fearful stares of the Night Raid members...

All that remained was the wreckage and the humiliated assassins left behind.
