POV Nick Fury

I arrived at the Joint Dark Energy Research Facility by Quinjet. I got reports of an evacuation being called after the Tesseract went active. I left the Quinjet and spoke to Coulson.

Fury: "How bad is it?"

Coulson: "That's the problem, sir. We don't know."

We quickly made our way to the sublevels.

Coulson: "Dr. Selvig read an energy surge in the Tesseract 4 hours ago."

Fury: "NASA didn't authorize Selvig to go to test phase."

Coulson: "He wasn't testing it. He wasn't even in the room. Spontaneous event."

Hill: "It just turned itself on?"

Fury: "Where are the energy levels now?"

Coulson: "Climbing. When Selvig couldn't shut it down, we ordered evac."

Fury: "How long to get everyone out?"

Coulson: "Campus should be clear in the next half hour."

Fury: "Do better."

Coulson leaves us to speed up the evacuation. Hill and I head deeper into the facility. After we get away from most of the people Hill speaks up.

Hill: "Sir, evacuation may be futile."

Fury: "We should tell them to go back to sleep?"

Hill: "If we can't control the Tesseract's energy, there may not be a minimum safe distance."

Fury: "I need you to make sure Phase 2 prototypes are shipped out."

Hill: "Sir, is that really a priority right now?"

Fury: "Until such a time as the world ends, we will act as though it intends to spin on... Clear out the tech below. Every piece of Phase 2 on a truck and gone."

Hill: "Yes sir."

She takes 2 nearby agents and walks away. I head into Dr. Selvig's lab.

Fury: "Talk to me, doctor."

Selvig: "Director."

Fury: "Is there anything we know for certain?"

Selvig: "The Tesseract is misbehaving."

Fury: "Is that supposed to be funny?"

Selvig: "No, it's not funny at all. The Tesseract is not only active, she's... misbehaving."

Fury: "I assume you pulled the plug?"

Selvig: "She's an energy source. If we turn off the power, she turns it back on. If she reaches peak level..."

I cut him off before he started panicking.

Fury: "We've prepared for this doctor. Harnessing energy from space."

Selvig: "We don't have the harness. Our calculations are far from complete. Now she's throwing off interference, radiation. Nothing harmful, low levels of gamma radiation."

I pause and look at him as I know that Gamma Radiation can be very dangerous.

Fury: "That can be harmful. Where's Agent Barton?"

Selvig: "The Hawk? Up in his nest, as usual."

I call Hawkeye over with my radio. Once he comes over I start talking to him.

Fury: "I gave you this detail so you could keep a close eye on things."

Barton: "Well, I see better from a distance."

Fury: "Are you seeing anything that might set this thing off?"

I ask him a coded question and he subtly shakes his head.

'Then this might not be Team Galactic. Let's hope that is the case.'

I hear some chatter in the background but ignore it and approach the Tesseract.

Barton: "No one's come or gone. Selvig's clean. No contacts, no I.M.s. If there was any tampering, sir, it wasn't at this end."

I look at him worriedly and ask.

Fury: "At this end?"

Barton: "Yeah, the cube is a doorway to the other end of space, right? The doors open from both sides."

Suddenly the Tesseract starts reacting violently. I back away from it while it settles down. The reaction shakes the entire facility.

'I hope this doesn't bring this entire facility down on our heads.'

Suddenly a beam of energy shoots from the Tesseract and opens what I can only describe as a blue bubble. The bubble explodes and in its place a figure is kneeling down. Agents start to surround the unknown person that just arrived. They stand up and I see they have what looks like a glowing spear.

Fury: "Sir please put down the spear."

They turn their head to the side and then thrust the spear. The spear glows and shoots an energy beam. Hawkeye pushes me out of the way of the blast. The Agents open fire and I watch as he kills most of them while bullets just bounce off him. I slowly crawl to the Tesseract and when I arrive I see the stranger grab Hawkeye.

???: "You have heart."

He thrusts the spear into his chest and Hawkeye stops resisting and holsters his gun. My eyes went wide and I realized I needed to get the Tesseract out of here. As the stranger starts controlling everyone I put the Tesseract in the case and start sneaking away. But I stop when he addresses me.

???: "Please don't. I still need that."

Fury: "This doesn't have to get any messier."

???: "Of course it does. I've come too far for anything else. I am Loki of Asgard, and I am burdened with glorious purpose."

Selvig: "Loki? Brother of Thor?"

Loki turns to Selvig.

Fury: "We have no quarrel with your people."

Loki: "An ant had no quarrel with a boot."

Fury: "Are you planning to step on us?"

Loki: "I come with glad tidings, of a world made free."

I squint my eyes at him.

Fury: "Free from what?"

Loki: "Freedom. Freedom is life's great lie. Once you accept that, in your heart... You will know peace."

He controls Selvig and I know I can't let myself be caught.

Fury: "Yeah, you say peace, I kind of think you mean the other thing."

Barton: "Sir, Director Fury is stalling. This place is about to blow. Drop a hundred feet of rock on us. He means to bury us."

Fury: "Like the Pharaohs of old."

'Hmm, he still calls me by my title. Does the control work passively?'

Selvig: "He's right. The portal is collapsing in on itself. You got maybe two minutes before this goes critical."

Loki: "Well then."

Barton suddenly shoots me and I am knocked down. They leave the room and I try to recover from the shot. I grab my radio and call Agent Hill.

Fury: "Hill, do you copy? Barton has turned."

I get up and start trying to get away from the collapsing portal. As I am leaving the lab I call over the radio again.

Fury: "They got the Tesseract! Shut it down!"

I stumble my way out of the lab and start running as fast as I can to get out of the facility. I hear the Coulson respond on the radio.

Coulson: "You're clear upstairs, sir! You need to go!"

I jump into the Quinjet and tell them to take off. As we start taking off the entire facility starts to turn into a massive sinkhole. I direct the Quinjet to intercept the expected route of Loki. Once we see them I have the Quinjet open fire. We shoot only a few rounds before Loki hits the left wing and we are dropping out of the sky. I shoot them with my pistol but they get away.

Coulson: "Director? Director Fury, do you copy?"

Fury: "The tesseract is with the hostile force. I have men down. Hill?"

Hill: "A lot of men still under, don't know how many survivors."

Fury: "Sound the general call. I want every living soul not working rescue looking for that briefcase."

Hill: "Roger that."

Fury: "Coulson, get back to base. This is a Level Seven. As of right now, we are at war."

POV Rio

I sensed the massive surge of spacial energy and knew that Loki had arrived on Earth.

'And so it begins.'

I quickly message Lex and the other Lanterns.

Rio: "The operation is a go. For now, wait until Loki is in custody. Then show yourselves."

Sinestro: "Yes, Your Highness."

My next call was to contact everyone else.

Rio: "Are the Vaults ready?"

Logica: "All 8 Vaults are ready and the subway is fully ready to accept people."

Tempest: "Nuka World is also fully operational and is expected to be at max capacity."

Kota: "The robots are in position. If the invasion happens here we will be ready."

Orochimaru: "The Ninjas are ready."

47: "I have sent most of the ICA's agents to New York."

Ruby: "Team RWBY is ready for action."

Cynthia: "My team and the other Pokemon are ready for combat."

Valerica: "Our mages will be on standby should we be needed to evacuate anyone."

Monika: "I have made as many as possible leave New York City but there is still a sizeable population left."

Thrawn: "The fleets are on High Alert. If Thanos tries anything we will be ready."

Trench: "The BCA is also prepared should any attacks happen. This is likely given the sudden drop in Pirate attacks."

Windu: "The Je'daii are ready to support anyone should we be needed."

Sebas: "The manor is defended. I assure you should anyone try to break in they will be dealt with swiftly."

Reznov: "The Army and Navy are ready to give these invaders a fight if they come knocking."

Arnold: "I am in NYC and am prepared for combat."

Rio: "Good, I will be dealing with the Ancient One but my Wood Clones will be assisting as needed. If anyone dies I am prepared to reveal myself to resurrect the dead. But with everyone here, I think we are as ready as we can be."

We continue discussing plans to defend the city and the chance that NYC isn't the target. Once we are done we end the call and I begin watching the Mages fight to the death.
