Chapter 506: Chapter 506: The Ace Tailor Shop
Having decided to take over Kingsman, William immediately called King Philip. Philip was straightforward; not only did he have Charles accompany William in the transition, but he also signed an official document granting William full authority.
With this document, William obtained the independent adjudication rights he valued most.
Over the next few days, he took control of Kingsman and met with the management team. However, contrary to the expectations of the nobles in the know, William didn't rush into major reforms. Instead, he appointed Harry Hart as the new leader and left the rest of the organization unchanged, not even meeting the remaining eight elite agents.
With Harry now in charge, the number of elite agents was down to eight. Following tradition, Harry's first task was to report to William on the selection of two new elite agents. According to protocol, when an elite agent falls, each remaining agent and the leader can nominate a candidate.
The selected nominees are brought together at the agent academy for training. Physical strength and combat skills are basic requirements in the first stage, while the second stage tests psychological resilience, loyalty, and compassion. The final survivors become the new elite agents.
Including William, the new boss, it took only three days for the ten nominees to arrive at the academy and begin three months of intense physical and combat training.
After Harry finished explaining, William considered for a moment and asked, "How do we ensure that the ones who fail don't expose us?"
"Don't worry, Boss. In the first stage, trainees stay within the academy and have no contact with anyone outside, except the instructors. They don't even know who's training them. In the second stage, those who fail are offered positions in Kingsman's logistics or support team. For those who decline, the academy issues a recommendation letter to help them find suitable jobs, along with signing strict confidentiality agreements."
"That's it?" William frowned. "That won't work. Human minds are complicated, and I'm sure you know that better than I do. Don't you have equipment to erase memories?"
Harry shrugged. "We do, but the device can cause severe side effects. Boss, the people recommended by the elite agents are close to them. No one would risk using an unstable device on someone close to them. Besides, many of these nominees come from noble families. If something went wrong, it would be troublesome."
"Alright, I understand," William replied, pretending to relent. Internally, he was more determined than ever to replace the current elite agents with recruits of his own choosing.
However, he didn't show any sign of dissatisfaction toward the current agents, either in his expression or actions.
Adding Lara Croft's name to the list of trainees, William patiently awaited the arrival of Poppy, the drug-dealing maniac from Kingsman 2, who would undoubtedly stir things up.
In the meantime, William set out to secure a steady new revenue source for Kingsman. A few days later, he and Abigail visited the Kingsman tailor shop on London's Savile Row, spending over an hour there in full view of the paparazzi.
News quickly spread that William had ordered four custom suits from the shop, drawing attention to the 150-year-old tailor shop's history and reputation across England.
Watching the TV coverage detailing the shop's famous clientele, dozens of historical figures and a handful of current celebrities, curious customers soon began to flock to the store.
These new clients quickly discovered that the shop offered custom-made bulletproof suits. Although these suits were priced at 510,000 pounds—10,000 pounds more than similar offerings elsewhere—many affluent patrons who preferred bespoke tailoring still chose to order from the shop.
Within just a few days, over a dozen wealthy clients had placed orders for bulletproof suits, and ordinary suit orders skyrocketed as well. This unique advantage made the shop the star of Savile Row's custom-tailoring scene.
According to the shop's manager, this one location could easily bring in an additional 20 million pounds in annual revenue from bulletproof suits alone.
If the tailor shop could generate an extra 20 million pounds a year, the bulletproof materials supplier would easily make an annual profit of 100 million pounds by providing 200 custom bulletproof suit materials.
These results pleased shareholders in the bulletproof materials company, including Philip, Grosvenor, Catherine, and Gareth.
After handling these matters, a few days later, William was in the middle of dealing with business related to Aston Martin when Sunday reported to him.
"Sir, the U.S. Foreign Affairs Ambassador has sent you an invitation, formally inviting you to a medal ceremony a week from now. Mr. Benjamin Arthur will be awarding you the highest level of honor medal, and he'd also like to discuss compensation with you."
"Hah, discussing compensation at this point? They must be afraid I'll refuse to accept the medal," William chuckled. "Notify the crew; I'll be flying to the U.S. the day after tomorrow."
"Understood, sir."
After finishing with Sunday, William quietly reviewed the documents submitted by the law firm Merser regarding Aston Martin.
Following his recent public use of the custom DB9 modified by Sunday, preorders for the DB9, which hadn't even been officially released yet, surged to over 1,300 units.
This unexpected demand thrilled the entire Aston Martin team, but it also brought new challenges.
Before William's acquisition, Aston Martin, still a subsidiary of Ford, had sold only about 10,000 cars throughout the 1990s. In 1995, they produced only 700 cars all year, and even in the economic boom of 1999, sales barely reached 1,200 cars.
Now, with the DB9 not yet released, 1,300 prospective buyers had already placed orders without knowing the final price. When the model officially launched, this number would likely increase significantly.
While skilled workers could be found in Gaydon, Aston Martin's manufacturing hub, funding to expand production was another matter.
And the company's biggest headache? Even if they wanted a loan, they couldn't secure one without the owner's signature.
So, the Aston Martin General Manager had been calling Merser daily, hoping to meet with William to discuss expanding production.
This led to today's meeting at Aston Martin's London headquarters.
At exactly 9 a.m., William arrived at the meeting spot, driving his recently overhauled BD9, fully upgraded by Sunday. As soon as he parked, his chief aide, Anthony, rushed over to open the door.
When William stepped out, Anthony performed an elaborate bow fit for nobility. "Good morning, Your Grace, I—"
"Stop, stop. Just call me Boss," William interrupted Anthony's excessive greeting before turning his attention to Aston Martin's General Manager, Sean Wainwright.
"G-good morning, Boss."
