Becoming the Strongest as a Game Dev

Chapter 90: Chapter 90

Gail paces back and forth in her office, her brow furrowed with worry. Yuna sits in a chair, her hands trembling as she stares at the floor. The silence between them is deafening, punctuated only by the occasional sigh.

"The police are doing everything they can," Gail says, her voice gentle but firm. "We just have to have faith that they'll find him."

Yuna looks up, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. "But what if they don't? What if something terrible has happened to him?" She wraps her arms around herself, as if trying to hold herself together.

Gail moves to Yuna's side and places a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "Sam is strong, Yuna. He's not going to give up without a fight. We have to believe that he'll find a way to come back to us."

Yuna nods, but the fear in her eyes remains. "I just wish there was something more we could do. Sitting here, waiting, it's driving me crazy."

Gail squeezes Yuna's shoulder. "I know. But right now, the best thing we can do is stay strong and support each other. Sam is going to need us when he comes back."

The two women fall silent, each lost in their own thoughts and prayers for Sam's safe return.

The door to Gail's office opens, and Aria Silverstone steps inside. Gail and Yuna both look up, surprise etched on their faces.

"Aria," Gail says, her voice tinged with confusion. "What are you doing here?"

Aria's expression is somber as she approaches them. "I've heard about Sam's kidnapping," she says, her golden eyes filled with a rare empathy. "I wanted to offer my condolences and let you know that I've been using the Silverstone resources to try and locate him."

Yuna's eyes widen, and she straightens in her chair. "You're helping us find Sam?" she asks, her voice trembling with a mixture of hope and disbelief.

Aria nods. "Sam is my benefactor, and I won't rest until he's safe. The Silverstone family has extensive connections and resources, and we're doing everything in our power to track him down."

Gail lets out a shaky breath, her shoulders sagging with relief. "Thank you, Aria," she says, her voice thick with emotion. "We've been so worried, and the police haven't had any leads."

Aria's gaze softens, and she places a hand on Gail's arm. "I understand. But I can assure you that we're leaving no stone unturned. Sam is a talented developer, and he's done a great service for the Silverstone family. We won't abandon him."

Yuna stands, her eyes shining with gratitude. "Thank you, Aria. We're so grateful for your help. Please, let us know if there's anything we can do to assist in the search."

Aria nods, her expression resolute. "I'll keep you both informed of any developments. In the meantime, try to stay strong. We'll bring Sam home."

With those words, Aria turns and exits the office, leaving Gail and Yuna in stunned silence. The weight of the situation seems to lift slightly, replaced by a renewed sense of hope and determination.

Gail looks at Yuna, a small smile tugging at the corners of her mouth. "Well, it seems we have the Silverstones on our side. That's a powerful ally to have in this fight."

Yuna nods, her own lips curving into a tentative smile. "Yes, and I'm grateful for it. Sam means so much to both of us, and I won't stop until he's safe."

The two women share a moment of understanding, their bond strengthened by their shared concern for their friend and colleague. With Aria's promise of aid, the path to finding Sam seems a little brighter, and they cling to that glimmer of hope as they prepare to do whatever it takes to bring him home.

Sam lies on the cold, hard floor of the cell, his body battered and bruised from Alaric's relentless torture. The dim light of the candle casts an eerie glow, accentuating the pain etched on his face. Despite the agony, a glimmer of defiance remains in his eyes, a testament to his unwavering spirit.

The heavy metal door creaks open, and Alaric steps inside, his imposing presence filling the small space. He studies Sam, his expression unreadable.

"I must say, I'm impressed by your resilience," Alaric says, his voice calm and measured. "Most men would have broken by now."

Sam manages a weak chuckle. "I'm not most men," he rasps, his voice hoarse from screaming.

Alaric nods, a hint of respect in his gaze. "No, you're not." He pauses, his eyes narrowing. "But that won't save you from what's to come."

Sam shifts his weight, wincing in pain. "What do you want from me?"

Alaric's lips curve into a humorless smile. "What I want is simple: your complete and utter submission." He turns to leave, his hand on the door. "Enjoy your solitude, Mr. Briar. I'll be back soon."

The door slams shut, leaving Sam alone in the dimly lit cell. He takes a deep, shuddering breath, trying to ignore the throbbing pain that radiates through his body.

Sam shifts his weight, the cold, hard floor offering little comfort. He examines the cell, his gaze lingering on the thick walls that confine him. His utility belt and energy shield bracelet are gone, leaving him feeling vulnerable and exposed.

"Think, Sam," he mutters to himself, his brow furrowed in concentration. "There has to be a way out of this."

Sam examines the cuffs binding his hands, he remembers getting Batman's training from the simulation. With a sharp exhale, he dislocates his thumb and slips his hand free, wincing at the pain but relieved to have his mobility restored. He quickly pops the joint back into place, flexing his fingers experimentally.

Turning his attention to the heavy door, Sam concentrates, tapping into the shadow manipulation abilities Caliban gifted him. He visualizes the lock mechanism, coaxing the shadows to twist and turn, until he hears the telltale click of the door unlocking. Carefully, Sam eases the door open, his senses on high alert as he peers out into the dimly lit corridor beyond.

Keeping to the shadows, Sam moves stealthily, his footsteps light and his breathing controlled. He knows Alaric and his men will be searching for him, but with his enhanced abilities, he's determined to make his escape.
