Becoming the Strongest as a Game Dev

Chapter 86: Chapter 86

I sit at my workstation, the B-Rank simulation gem Aria gave me resting in the palm of my hand. Its smooth surface glints in the soft office lighting, a testament to the power it contains.

As I gaze at the gem, I can't help but feel a surge of excitement and uncertainty. The possibilities it presents are endless - I could recreate any game I've ever played, from the fantastical worlds of Pokémon to the gritty landscapes of Fallout. Even the sweeping epics of The Witcher or the grand scale of Final Fantasy are within my reach.

I lean back in my chair, letting out a deep breath. The weight of this decision feels heavy. Which game would do justice to the capabilities of this gem? Which one would captivate the Hunters and leave a lasting impression?

My mind races, considering the pros and cons of each option. Pokémon's creature-collecting and turn-based combat could be a hit, but would it truly push the boundaries of what a simulation can offer? Fallout's bleak, post-apocalyptic atmosphere is certainly intriguing, but would it resonate with the Hunters who crave action and adventure?

I toss the gem gently in the air, catching it again as I ponder The Witcher's rich storytelling and complex moral choices. Or perhaps Final Fantasy's epic scale and diverse cast of characters would be the way to go.

As I weigh each possibility, I can't help but feel a twinge of indecision. There are so many incredible games out there, each with their own unique charms and challenges. How can I possibly choose just one to bring to life?

I sigh, placing the gem back on my desk. The truth is, I want to create something truly remarkable - something that will leave a lasting impression on the Hunters and cement my reputation as a top-tier developer. But with so many options, I can't seem to land on a clear direction.

Just as I'm about to give in to the paralysis of choice, a familiar voice interrupts my thoughts.

"Stuck on what to create next?"

I glance up to see Gail standing before me, a knowing smile on her face.

I glance up to see Gail standing before me, a knowing smile on her face.

"Stuck on what to create next?" she asks, her voice warm and understanding.

I nod, my gaze drifting back to the gleaming B-Rank gem on my desk. "There are just so many possibilities, Gail. I want to do something truly remarkable, but I can't seem to land on the right idea."

Gail takes a seat in the chair across from me, her expression thoughtful. "Well, you know I'm always here to lend an ear. Why don't you tell me what you're considering?"

I quickly run through the options in my mind - Pokémon, Fallout, The Witcher, Final Fantasy. Each one has its own merits, but I can't shake the feeling that they've all been done before, in one form or another.

"I want to create something unique, something that will really wow the Hunters," I admit, leaning forward in my chair. "But I'm worried about falling into the trap of trying to imitate what's already out there."

Gail nods, her gaze steady. "I understand your dilemma, Sam. But you know, sometimes the best ideas come from the most unexpected places."

Before I can respond, she continues, "And speaking of unexpected, you've got a package here. Looks like it's from Caliban."

I blink in surprise, my curiosity piqued. "Caliban? What could he possibly be sending me?"

Gail shrugs, a small smile playing on her lips. "Why don't you open it and find out?"

I reach for the package, carefully unwrapping the plain brown paper. Inside, I find two items inside. A small crystal and a bracelet.

"Abilities from his simulations," Gail explains. "Caliban is honoring his side of the deal."

"These seem to come from his simulations. What made Caliban give you these?"

"Long story short. He and I made a bet, and I won." I couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction. Challenging Caliban had been a risky move, but it had paid off.

Gail raised a curious eyebrow. "A bet with Caliban? I'm almost afraid to ask what that entailed." Her expression conveyed a mix of intrigue and apprehension.

"It was nothing really. Yuna and I ran into Adder when we visited Aria. Apparently, he was invited by Aria's father to create a simulation for them. One thing led to another, and it turned into a little competition to see which simulation Aria liked better.

"That does sound like an interesting story. I'd be curious to hear more about it sometime."

"Yeah, I'll have to fill you in on the details another time."

I carefully unpack the items from Caliban's package, intrigued by what they might contain. Nestled inside, I find a small note explaining the contents.

"A gift, as promised," the note reads. "The bracelet is a full-body energy shield that will protect you. The crystal contains an ability from my Night Raid simulation - the power to manipulate shadows."

I turn the bracelet over in my hands, feeling the smooth metal against my skin. Slipping it onto my wrist, I can already sense a faint hum of energy radiating from it. This could come in handy, especially given the dangers that lurk beyond the city walls.

Next, I hold the crystal up to the light, studying its facets. Caliban's ability to control shadows intrigues me. I close my eyes and focus, channeling my mana into the crystal. A tingling sensation spreads through my body, and I can feel the power coursing through me, ready to be unleashed.

With a deep breath, I open my eyes, feeling the newfound abilities at my fingertips. I raise my hand, and a tendril of darkness emerges, twisting and coiling at my command. The potential for this power is immense, and I can't help but wonder how I might incorporate it into my own simulations.

Gail watches me with a mix of curiosity and approval. "Impressive gifts from Caliban," she comments. "I have to say, I'm surprised he's being so generous."

I nod, slipping the bracelet onto my wrist and feeling the comforting weight of it. "As am I," I admit. "But I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth. These abilities could be invaluable."

Gail chuckles, "Well, I'm glad you're taking advantage of them. Now, about that next simulation of yours..."
