Becoming the Strongest as a Game Dev

Chapter 30: Chapter 30

Gail and Sam dine at a fine dining restaurant. They're celebrating Sam's victory at the World Developer Expo.

He savors a bite of the tender steak, the rich flavors dancing on his tongue. He looks up at Gail, a satisfied smile on his face.

"This place really lives up to the hype, doesn't it?" he says, dabbing his mouth with a napkin.

Gail nods, taking a sip of her wine. "It's a perfect setting to celebrate your victory." She sets down her glass, her gaze steady. "Speaking of which, have you received the invitation for the award ceremony yet?"

Sam nods, his eyes gleaming. "Yes, I got the email earlier today. They want me to be there to accept the award in person." He chuckles, a hint of pride in his voice. "I can't believe I actually won. It still feels a bit surreal."

"Well, you certainly earned it," Gail says, reaching across the table to give his hand a brief squeeze. "Your simulation was nothing short of exceptional. I knew you had it in you."

Sam shakes his head modestly. "I was just lucky, really. There were so many impressive simulations at the Expo. I'm sure any one of them could have taken the top spot."

Gail fixes him with a stern look. "Sam, you need to stop selling yourself short. Your game was the clear winner for a reason. You poured your heart and soul into it, and it shows."

She leans forward, her voice softening. "You should be proud of what you've accomplished. Not many developers can say they've won the World Developer Expo, let alone on their first try." Gail places a reassuring hand on his arm. "Hold your head up high. You've earned this victory."

Sam feels a flush of warmth spread through him at her words. He nods, straightening his shoulders. "You're right. I shouldn't be so humble about this. It was a lot of hard work, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to showcase my skills."

Gail smiles, her eyes sparkling with pride. "That's more like it. Now, let's enjoy this dinner and celebrate your well-deserved success."

Sam and Gail enjoy their dinner, savoring each bite of the tender steak and sip of the fine wine. The rich flavors dance on their tongues, and the atmosphere of the restaurant creates a sense of tranquility and celebration around them.

Gail sets down her wine glass, her gaze shifting to Sam. "Speaking of the award ceremony, do you have anything to wear for the occasion?"

Sam pauses, his brow furrowing as he considers the question. "You know, I haven't really thought about it. I've been so focused on the simulation itself, I didn't even think about the ceremony."

Gail nods, a small smile playing at the corners of her lips. "Well, we can't have the winner of the World Developer Expo showing up in just anything, now can we?"

She leans forward, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "How about I take you shopping tomorrow? I know the perfect tailor who can put together a dashing look for you."

Sam's eyes widen slightly, and he feels a flutter of nerves in his stomach. "Oh, I couldn't possibly ask you to do that. I'm sure I can find something on my own."

Gail waves a hand dismissively. "Nonsense. Consider it a congratulatory gift." Her expression softens, and she reaches across the table to give his hand a gentle squeeze. "You deserve to look and feel your best for this moment."

Sam hesitates, but the sincerity in Gail's voice and the warmth of her touch make it difficult for him to refuse. "Well, if you insist," he says, a grateful smile spreading across his face. "I would be honored."

Gail nods, satisfaction evident in her expression. "Excellent. We'll make an appointment first thing in the morning. I have a feeling this is going to be a night to remember."

Sam is waiting in the town square of Jade City. He was wearing a hoodie and loose clothing. "Where is Gail?"

A luxury car drove nearby, and the windows opened to reveal Gail. "Morning, Sam. Come on. Get in."

Sam is surprised by the luxurious car. Sam is not a car enthusiast, but he can tell Gail's car is expensive.

Sam hesitates for a moment, then approaches the car. "This is...quite the ride," he says, his eyebrows raised as he takes in the sleek exterior.

Gail offers him a small smile. "Only the best for our top developer." She gestures to the passenger seat. "Shall we?"

Sam nods and slides into the plush leather seat, buckling his seatbelt. "Where are we headed?"

"You'll see," Gail replies cryptically, putting the car in gear and merging into traffic.

Sam feels a bit out of place as Gail's luxury car glides through the bustling streets of Jade City. He gazes out the window, taking in the sights of the towering skyscrapers and the constant flow of pedestrians.

As the car pulls up to a storefront with a gilded sign reading "Luxe Tailoring," Sam turns to Gail, curiosity evident in his expression. "This is the place?"

Gail nods, a hint of a smile playing on her lips. "The best tailoring shop in the city. They'll have you looking sharp for the awards ceremony."

Sam nods, steeling his nerves as they exit the car and approach the entrance. The shopkeeper, a well-dressed man with a warm smile, greets them. "Welcome to Luxe Tailoring. How may I assist you today?"

"We're in need of a suit for our developer here," Gail says, gesturing towards Sam. "Something fitting for a prestigious awards ceremony."

The shopkeeper nods, his gaze appraising Sam. "Excellent. If you'll follow me, we'll get your measurements and find the perfect ensemble."

Sam follows the shopkeeper deeper into the store, his eyes widening at the rows of impeccably tailored suits and the rich, luxurious fabrics on display. He feels a tinge of unease, unsure of his place in such an upscale establishment.

"Now, if you'll stand here," the shopkeeper says, unrolling a measuring tape. "Let's see what we can do for you."

Sam stands still, trying to remain calm as the shopkeeper efficiently takes his measurements, jotting down the numbers in a small notebook.

"Excellent. Now, let's see what we have in stock that would suit you." The shopkeeper moves to a rack, his fingers skimming the various suit options.

Sam glances over at Gail, who offers an encouraging nod. "Don't worry, Sam. They know what they're doing."

The shopkeeper returns with a few suit options, each one more impressive than the last. "Why don't you try these on and see what you think?"

Sam nods, accepting the suits and heading to the dressing room. He emerges a few minutes later, tugging at the collar of the first suit.

"Not quite right," the shopkeeper murmurs, his brow furrowing in thought.

They continue this process, with Sam trying on suit after suit, until finally, the shopkeeper presents a grey suit, a crisp white shirt, and a black tie.

"This, I believe, is the one," the shopkeeper says, a satisfied smile on his face.

Sam examines himself in the mirror, surprised by how well the suit fits. "It's... perfect."

Gail nods approvingly. "Excellent choice. We'll take it."

The shopkeeper beams, already making preparations to complete the purchase. "Wonderful. You'll be the picture of sophistication at the awards ceremony."

Sam can't help but feel a sense of pride as he looks at his reflection, already anticipating the upcoming event.
