Chapter 78: The Unusual Qi Han
“Boss, the table at number four wants a small serving of egg fried rice, one portion of Kung Pao chicken, and one portion of Dongpo Pork Knuckle,” Ying Shuang entered the kitchen and reported the dishes ordered by Yue Lengxin to Qi Han.
“Alright,” Qi Han instinctively raised his head to glance in the direction of table number four, and when he saw the diners sitting there, he was slightly taken aback.
“Boss, what’s wrong?” Ying Shuang blinked.
“Nothing,” Qi Han shook his head but suddenly remembered that Ying Shuang seemed to have had a pleasant conversation with the silver-haired girl at that table earlier.
On a whim, he asked, “Do you know the customer at table number four?”
“That’s our senior sister Yue Lengxin from Shrek Academy. Boss, haven’t you heard of her?” Ying Shuang didn’t notice Qi Han’s unusual behavior and spoke with a touch of admiration.
Yue Lengxin. Qi Han nodded without saying anything and turned back to continue his work at the cutting board. However, he quietly stored that name in his mind.
Soon, after preparing all the dishes for the previous customer, Qi Han began cooking the food for table number four.
The quickest to prepare, of course, was the egg fried rice, something Qi Han had become extremely proficient at. After finishing the egg fried rice, instead of having Ying Shuang serve it as usual, he placed it to the side and quickly moved to stir-fry the Kung Pao chicken.
In no time, the Kung Pao chicken, rich in color, aroma, and flavor, was ready. Qi Han carefully brought out a portion of the Dongpo Pork Knuckle from another large pot, and then he served all three dishes on the table.
Seeing Qi Han place the dishes on the table, Ying Shuang quickly approached. She was slightly surprised when she saw the three dishes on the table.
“I’ll serve the Dongpo Pork Knuckle,” Qi Han made an effort to keep his face as calm as usual. He held the Dongpo Pork Knuckle with both hands and walked out of the kitchen.
“You can serve the remaining two dishes.”
Huh? Ying Shuang nodded somewhat bewildered and then followed Qi Han with the egg fried rice and Kung Pao chicken.
As he walked closer to the figure with her back to him, Qi Han’s heart seemed to beat a bit faster.
Sensing someone approaching, Yue Lengxin turned her head, and her eyes met Qi Han’s.
It really looks like it. Looking closely at this somewhat familiar and stunning face, Qi Han’s emotions were mixed, and he almost instinctively called out the name from his past life. He tried his best to remain calm and placed the Dongpo Pork Knuckle in front of Yue Lengxin.
The two of them were very close, and Qi Han could even easily catch a faint fragrance from Yue Lengxin’s body. It wasn’t a strong or overpowering scent but rather a delicate, elegant scent, reminiscent of the faint fragrance of flowers. Even in the small restaurant filled with the aroma of delicious food, it couldn’t be completely masked.
His heart skipped a beat involuntarily.
“Dongpo Pork Knuckle, please enjoy.”
Even Qi Han himself noticed a slight quiver in his voice. He stepped aside, allowing Ying Shuang to serve the egg fried rice and Kung Pao chicken. Then, he quickly retreated to the kitchen almost like escaping.
He stood quietly at the cutting board for a while. It took some time for Qi Han to calm his rapidly beating heart, and a bitter smile appeared on his face.
(What’s wrong with me? Qi Han, pull yourself together. She’s not her.)
Yue Lengxin blinked her eyes, and her gaze followed Qi Han as he went back to the kitchen for a while before she withdrew her gaze.
(Is he the owner of this little restaurant? He looks quite young, about the same age as me.)
But why did he walk away so quickly? Maybe the restaurant is busy, yes, that must be it.
Soon, Yue Lengxin’s attention shifted from the owner of the restaurant to the food in front of her.
With just one look, her eyes lit up.
Just by appearance, this food looks delicious.
But what are these utensils? Yue Lengxin furrowed her brows slightly and looked at the chopsticks placed next to the plates.
Having just recently emerged from seclusion, she naturally hadn’t had time to learn about this new utensil, chopsticks.
Fortunately, it seemed that Ying Shuang guessed that the senior sister might not be familiar with chopsticks, so after serving the dishes, she didn’t immediately leave. When she saw the senior sister’s gaze, she smiled with understanding. “Senior sister, these are a new utensil invented by the boss called chopsticks. They’re much more convenient than knives and forks. Let me demonstrate.”
Saying this, Ying Shuang picked up a pair of chopsticks and demonstrated their use in the air.
Watching Ying Shuang’s demonstration and observing the actions of the other diners, Yue Lengxin quickly grasped the concept of this new utensil.
She deftly used the chopsticks to pick up a piece of cucumber from the Kung Pao chicken. Yue Lengxin’s face showed a hint of surprise, “This utensil is really handy.”
She put the cucumber in her mouth. The surface of the cucumber carried the delicious flavor of the chicken broth, along with the natural mild sweetness of the cucumber. It was slightly tender on the surface but crisp in the center, providing a delightful texture that made Yue Lengxin close her eyes in satisfaction.
So delicious.
In the world of Douluo Continent, the mainstream cooking methods were roasting and boiling. Stir-frying, a cooking technique originating from Earth, was almost unheard of on Douluo Continent. Due to her love for food and her martial Spirit, Yue Lengxin had developed a deep appreciation for cuisine. During her travels, her greatest hobby was to sample local specialties, but even with her experiences, she had never tasted such a unique and flavorful dish. Not only was this cooking method unfamiliar to her, but the taste of the dishes also seemed unique.
Next, Yue Lengxin skillfully picked up a bite of Kung Pao chicken, including peanuts, chicken pieces, and cucumber pieces, and put it into her mouth. The crispy texture of the peanuts, the tender and succulent chicken, and the refreshing cucumber pieces blended in her mouth. The distinct and delightful flavor of the chicken lingered in her mouth, making Yue Lengxin thoroughly enchanted. After swallowing, a hint of that delicious taste seemed to remain in her mouth.
A plate of Kung Pao chicken had opened the doors to a new world for Yue Lengxin, and her gaze quickly turned to the Dongpo Pork Knuckle beside it.
It was a habit she had developed since childhood – taste each type of food individually before eating them all together.
Soon, she recognized the raw material of this dish from its appearance. It appeared to be a part of the pig’s trotter, a place just above the hoof. Her eyes showed a hint of surprise.
She had once tasted roasted pig’s trotters in a small town, and it had a very good taste. However, pig’s trotters and Pork Knuckles, such as this, were rarely used in cooking on the Douluo Continent and were not considered mainstream ingredients. She never expected this small restaurant to serve a dish cooked with Pork Knuckles.
A rare expression of indecision appeared on her face because the surface of Pork Knuckles often contained a lot of collagen, and the skin was thick, requiring one to gnaw on it while eating. She remembered buying roasted pig’s trotters once and secretly gnawing on them by herself, but now, eating Pork Knuckles without any table manners in front of so many people made her feel a little embarrassed.
However, when she poked the chopsticks into the Pork Knuckle, Yue Lengxin quickly realized she was mistaken. The Pork Knuckle was nothing like she had imagined; the surface was completely tender and soft. With a simple pinch of the chopsticks, it easily separated into small, bite-sized pieces.
