Chapter 21: Chapter 21
Ron stood up immediately and dragged Leo down to taste all the sweet delicacies.
Normally, when they have feasts in Ashenmore, Ron usually mingles with their subjects. He eats, laughs and plays with them just like his grandfather. Ron is the kind of outgoing person who finds even the littlest things fascinating. Imagine that kind of person in a foreign land. He'd want to explore!
Rose facepalmed as she watched her dearest brother drag Leo through the crowd to the long tables full of food. Why does he embarrass her so?
The Queen mother had a smile on her face as she stared at Ron conversing with some people as he tasted the dishes. He's such a pure soul.
King Zedekiel on the other hand, felt that this human was very cunning. He must be up to no good. Every royal figure waits for food to be served on the table but he goes around on the pretext of tasting food to get information about the North. How cunning indeed. Well, he trusted his people to not reveal a single thing.
Ron didn't know what the King was thinking but seeing as Zedekiel was staring at him, he felt that he was truly handsome today! He would be extra good to the Queen mother from now on. She suggested he wear red and now, his beloved couldn't keep his eyes off him. How amazing! Ron's happiness knew no bounds. He decided to show off more charms.
As he tasted the sweet dishes and conversed with the people, he smiled more, laughed more, complimented people more and ate in an elegant fashion.
The people of Netheridge were mesmerised. They felt that this prince wasn't only beautiful outside. He was even more beautiful within.
"Your highness" some lady called. "Please, taste this. I made it myself"
Ron looked at the round golden brown fish looking thing on the plate and hesitated. "What is this?"
The lady smiled. "It's a kind of fish called the Gnore. It's very rare and hard to catch. My father specifically saved it for tonight". She even took a fork and scooped a part of it to feed the prince.
Ron was touched. The people of Netheridge are very kind. He opened his mouth and the lady fed it to him. The Prince's face went from normal to absolutely pleased. The fish was very delicious! Ron had never tasted anything like it.
He turned to Leo. "Leo, hurry. Taste it. It's very delicious"
The lady heard and was quite happy so she served some to Leo. Leo grumbled in his heart. So she would feed the prince and not him. He wondered, just how does this prince do it?
Seeing as the prince let that lady feed him, others went to try their luck.
Soon, Ron was surrounded by females and males alike, all wanting to feed him. He started to feel nervous. He glanced at the King to find his expression dark.
Like he would kill anything in a second.
Ron's heart trembled. It trembled with joy! Could it be that the King was jealous?
King Zedekiel was pissed. The little prince had managed to win over some of his people. Didn't they care about the fact that he's a human? That the tainted blood of those who killed their people runs in his veins? Didn't they care that they were mingling with the great grandson of a killer?
Preposterous! He would not allow that!
"Prince Ron!" he called, making the hall go pin drop silent. Everyone's attention was now focused on the King. Including Prince Ron.
"Yes, your Majesty?" he answered with a brilliant smile. The King couldn't contain his jealousy any longer and even called out to him. How wonderful!
King Zedekiel wanted to slap the smile off Ron's face. It was like telling him 'your people love me, what are you going to do about it?'.
He gritted his teeth then schooled his expression. "Come back to your seat. Whatever you want will be served to you. Please, maintain order"
Ron was delighted. The King wanted him back at his side!
Prince Ludiciel thought it didn't make sense. What order? Prince Ron could do as he liked. He wasn't disturbing anyone. But, who was he to speak against his brother's decree? He wouldn't listen anyway.
The Queen mother knew exactly what her son was thinking. She knew he still harboured immense hatred for the humans and would do anything to protect his people but he didn't understand that Ron was harmless.
She wanted to tell Zedekiel to let Ron be but to her surprise, Prince Ron obediently walked back to the table and even apologised to Zedekiel.
The people of Netheridge were quite disappointed but who dares to complain?
Princess Mariel was kind of happy with Zedekiel's decision though. How could she watch her crush being fed by other women? She was very jealous.
Princess Rose was also happy. Ron wouldn't continue to embarrass her. How could a prince like him eat from the hands of a commoner?
Tariel and Sariel were busy stuffing their faces food, oblivious to the things happening around them while Prince Ludiciel just sighed. He wondered why Zedekiel couldn't let the prince be. It was nice watching their people take the initiative to freely engage with a human. If he had known that there were humans like Ron, he would have sneaked out of Netheridge to make friends.
His poor brother didn't understand that the people who killed their father and first brother are long gone and the humans now are different. He was still stuck in the past. Prince Ludiciel only hoped that Zedekiel would one day let go of all his anger and hatred.
Prince Ron happily sat beside the King. His smile was radiant like the sun and his skin was flushed pink. His russet curls were bouncy and fell over his eyes in a cute manner and his glassy green eyes were round and sparkly.
King Zedekiel wanted to say some things to hurt the Prince but after seeing such a face, he hesitated. Looking closely, one could see that the prince's emotions were genuine. Who would have the heart to make such a person sad?
He shook his head. No. Pretence. It was all a trick.
Ron's heart began to pound within his ribcage as he watched the King inch closer to him. He felt so lucky. His beloved was finally paying attention to him. He was so happy that if he was told to strip naked and run through the hall, he would do so without a second of hesitation. He also leaned closer to the King, eager to hear what he had to say.
Maybe he would complement him or ask him to meet later so they could talk about their feelings.
Unfortunately, the words the King spat out made Ron's mood plummet to the ground.
