Became Pregnant With the Demon King’s Child

chapter 107

“Felix, are you all right?”
“Where did you go?!”

Felix ran up to Lowell and grabbed his forearm tightly.
“Ah…”
Normally, Felix would recoil at even a slight frown from Lowell. But now, as if completely out of his mind, he only gripped harder.

“It was time for Edwin to eat. I’m completely fine, so calm down, Felix.”
Lowell tried to meet Felix’s eyes, which were shaking wildly. Feeling the tangible warmth of Lowell’s skin, Felix began to come back to reality and attempted to sheath his sword first—but his hands were still trembling so much that he fumbled repeatedly. The agitation caused by mistaking Lowell’s absence for something worse had hit him hard.
“I told you to let me know whenever you go somewhere, Lowell.”

The words alone sounded like scolding. But his tone, clinging like a desperate child, made it feel more like pleading. The servants in the room quickly bowed their heads, pretending not to witness their master’s vulnerability.
“I’m sorry. You were finally sleeping soundly after so long, and I didn’t want to wake you.”
“I thought you were gone again…”

Felix’s hands, still holding Lowell, trembled. That small shaking carried all the fear and pain he had felt—even if it was only for a short time.
“Where would I go?”
Lowell spoke gently and patted Felix on the back. The man, more than twice his size, suddenly felt so small and fragile, and a wave of tenderness surged up in Lowell’s chest.

Even if it was for Felix’s sake… it was too cruel.
Felix, already prone to anxiety whenever Lowell was involved, had become even more unstable since the incident. Because they hadn’t been separated for long, and Felix’s attention had been entirely on their newborn, Lowell hadn’t fully realized just how deeply he’d been hurt. Now, guilt and bitterness made him bite down on his lip.
“Did I hurt you?”

As Felix slowly accepted that the person in his grasp was real, his reason began to return. When he noticed Lowell flinch slightly, he quickly let go. But even in that short time, Lowell’s delicate skin had turned red.
“You’re going to bruise.”
Felix made a pained expression as if he were the one suffering. Unable to touch it, he could only stare at the handprint, so Lowell tapped the back of his hand lightly.

“My skin just reddens easily. It only looks that way.”
“No… I know better than anyone how fragile your body is. No matter how confused I was, I was completely out of my mind.”
Felix twisted his expression again in regret over what he’d done.
“I actually put a mark on your body…”

Seeing him fall apart in an instant made Lowell feel like he was being swept away by a crashing wave. As if his tension had finally broken, Felix leaned his face into Lowell’s chest. It was like a wild beast—completely unaware of its own size—nuzzling against a human for affection.
“Don’t ever go out without a word again. If I’m asleep, wake me up. We’ll go together.”
If Felix had ordered him harshly, Lowell might have resisted and tried to talk him down.

But when he says it like this, all clingy and pleading, how am I supposed to say no?
It would’ve been easy to say yes just to settle the moment. But Lowell didn’t want to rely on avoidance or cheap tricks.
“I know you need time. Until your heart begins to heal, I’ll do that.”

“You have to do it regardless of how my heart is.”
That firm reply made it sound as if his heart would never truly heal. Unlike Felix, Lowell believed that while time might not completely erase pain, it could at least weather it down.
They said I’m healthier now, so I should start exercising and rebuilding my strength. Maybe I’ll learn self-defense with a dagger. If he sees me like that, maybe he’ll worry a little less.
Lowell gently stroked Felix’s hair. Felix closed his eyes with a pleased expression and let himself calm down.

Right now, I need to give him something to focus on. Preferably something we can work on together, but with some healthy space between us.
Luckily, Lowell had just the thing.
“Felix.”

“What is it?”
“We said we’d have our wedding once I came to Nyx, right?”
“Yes. We agreed to hold it after your recovery.”

Lowell had already received far more than enough care from capable temple healers, and Taishi was still monitoring him daily. He didn’t actually need further rest. But because he hadn’t felt any urgency to have a wedding—or any real desire to do it at all—he had just gone along with Felix’s pace.
“What do you think about starting to prepare the wedding from tomorrow?”
“…Huh?”

“All the urgent matters have been handled, and Edwin was born healthy, too.”
It was admittedly a rather sudden suggestion given the situation. What’s more, Felix had always thought Lowell wasn’t very interested in the wedding to begin with, which made the offer even more surprising.
I’ve honestly never wanted to have a wedding. Just the thought of it sounds exhausting.

Lowell could tolerate the idea if absolutely necessary, but to be honest, the whole procedure just seemed needlessly complicated and tiring.
And it’s ~Nоvеl𝕚ght~ not just any wedding—it’s a noble’s wedding. That’ll be even worse than a modern one, I bet.
Even so, he brought it up because he thought a wedding might serve as a kind of shared project. If they worked through it together, maybe the bad memories would start to fade.

And maybe… marrying Felix wouldn’t be such a bad thing after all.
Lowell pictured Felix in a tuxedo and allowed himself a quiet smile. All the irritation and fatigue seemed bearable with that image in mind.
“You’re right. But even so, we don’t need to rush. We can take our time and rest a bit more first.”

“Even if we’re already married on paper, there are probably people who don’t know that unless we hold the ceremony. Honestly, even I don’t really feel like it’s real yet.”
Lowell had only intended to give Felix something to occupy his mind, but he managed to produce a convincing explanation. Felix, puzzled by the sudden shift in topic, crossed his arms and closed his eyes in thought.
“You don’t feel like you’re really married to me?”

“It’s not that I dislike it or feel uncomfortable.”
“Then what is it?”
Felix seemed slightly hurt, and Lowell quickly waved his hands in protest, afraid he’d misunderstood.

“It’s just that… one day I woke up and we were married. You even called me Lowell Clarke earlier when you were looking for me.”
Felix’s mouth fell open slightly, caught off guard.
“I’m not Lowell Clarke anymore. I’m Lowell Lucas now.”

“…Right.”
Felix fell into brief thought. In the meantime, Lowell turned slightly and glanced out the window. The sun was brighter now than when he had first arrived in Nyx. Even in a region that was cold all year round, that didn’t mean there were no changes at all.
It’s not a total lie… so I guess it’s fine.

With only a small pang of guilt, Lowell drove in the final stake.
“I want to make our vows in front of the greenhouse. If we wait too long, it’ll start getting cold again.”
“In front of the greenhouse?”

“Yes. It’s the place you made for me, Felix. Let’s show everyone that we’re happy there.”
It had been a spur-of-the-moment suggestion, but the more he thought about it, the more it seemed like a good idea.
There are probably still people in Nyx who see Felix as a frightening ruler. If they see us together, maybe it’ll soften that image.

Pleased with his conclusion, Lowell looked up to hear Felix’s response. Their eyes met immediately—he had been watching Lowell the whole time.
“All right. Let’s start planning the wedding together starting tomorrow.”
***

It didn’t take long for Lowell to understand why so many couples fought while planning a wedding. It was because agreeing on anything was nearly impossible.
“You’re really planning to install a fountain this grand?”
“It has to be at least this extravagant to suit your beauty.”

Whenever Lowell tried to rein in the budget, Felix always gave a similar answer.
“But then you said you want to completely cover my face with a veil! A thick one, too, so no one can even see my features!”
“Of course. If we don’t, shameless bastards might fall for the groom at first sight right there at the wedding.”

“They’re coming to celebrate our marriage! Who would even do that?!”
Lowell raised his voice in frustration, clutching the back of his neck. Reflexively, Felix’s gaze shifted toward the cradle. Realizing he’d gotten a bit too worked up, Lowell lowered his tone.
“Really, that’s just ridiculous.”

“Falling for your charm is an act of God. Like a divine revelation.”
It had already been a week since they started planning the wedding—and they hadn’t made a single bit of progress.
