Chapter 333: The realisation
Kyrell observed his mate's face as she slept peacefully on his bed. He made sure to cover her with thick furs to keep her warm while keeping the fireplace running. The weather was on the warmer side, with a cozy evening approaching, but Kyrell didn't want to risk his mate falling ill when she was pregnant.
That made him think about all that she had to endure while she was in her most vulnerable state. He once again couldn't help but think about Alice. He should have killed her by his own hands. Kyrell knew that it was wrong of him to think about harming a Female, but he couldn't stop his thoughts from going that way. Alice had almost ruined his life and for what? For a crime, he didn't even commit.
His late friend Noel was killed by the former Eagle King's father. That had nothing to do with Kyrell. In the past, maybe he would have blamed himself for everything and died thinking it was his fault but not anymore. Kyrell now refused to take the blame for things he did not do.
Noel's death still hurt him but that was not his doing. And Kyrell already made sure to avenge his friend by ripping apart his killer limb by limb. That was the only justice he could do, and he did just that even when that went against everything he was conditioned to believe from his childhood. Kyrell was no less but a brainwashed slave under the late Eagle King's thumb. He was taught that the former was his master, his god, and weirdly enough a father that cared about him.
For his younger self, any kind of attention was a good one. It didn't matter if it destroyed him internally. He didn't mind even when he was dragged away and drained of his powers. He was ready to do anything necessary to keep the little attention he got from his so-called father.
"You saved me" a heartfelt whisper fell out of his lips as he lovingly gazed at his mate's face. Soon, that gaze traveled down and landed on her blanket-covered chest. After all, that was where his mark lay. His mating mark was the nearest one to her heart. Males of every tribe and kind could only dream about something like this happening in their lifetime but Kyrell got this? The one who was constantly called unlucky due to his lack of parents and coloring was this lucky? The phenomenon that occurs only once a century came true for him?
Kyrell felt like his life was fulfilled. Even if he died right this moment, he had no regrets, for he had everything a beastman could have. A serene smile formed on his face and he bent down to kiss his mate's forehead. His face hovered above hers as he took in his beautiful female's image. He embedded it in his mind to never forget. Her long lashes fluttered like butterfly wings with every wind that passed, and her soft brows and pink lips. He took in every detail like he was desperate, and on the other side, his mate slept peacefully without a care in the world.
He wanted her to stay like this always. With peace and serenity. Kyrell vowed that he would make it possible for her to always remain happy and content. Always. He would never let people like Alice enter his mate's life again. Never again. He made a silent oath to himself before standing up from the bed and dressing himself in a robe.
With a final kiss on his mate's cheek, he left his chambers in hopes of finding something for her to eat once she woke up. He knew she had worked hard earlier by holding on to him while he took her. Remembering that made him instantly hot and bothered but he pushed himself and somewhat took control of his urges before entering the kitchen area. Unlike the Rose castle, here in the Lion tribe, there were workers in every corner. Servants specializing in cooking delicacies were available for the royalty at beck and call.
"Majesty!" The worker bowed respectfully as soon as he stepped inside the cooking area.
Kyrell looked around the place before his eyes fell on the recent hunt. The meat looked fresh to be made into something delicious.
"Make some meat soup that is light and easily digestible," he ordered, "It is for your Queen." Calling Lyra Queen was not wrong in any way because she would become one in the near future now that the Lion King had passed away and the previous Queen became the Dowager.
"Right away, Your Majesty," the one in charge of the kitchen staff announced before signaling the workers to start their jobs. Then the former turned to Kyrell before asking, "Anything that you would like to eat, your grace?"
"I don't need anything" Kyrell dismissed him and walked out of the cooking area. The finished food would be delivered to his chambers. He wanted to be with his mate as soon as possible. He missed her so much even though it had been only a few minutes since they parted. But his plans came to a halt when he came across an unexpected guest waiting near his chambers.
Dark blue hair and amethyst-like eyes. Kaizer was standing while he reclined against a wall with his hands folded in front of him. It was as though he was awaiting someone's presence.
"Lyra is sleeping" Kyrell was kind enough to inform Kaizer. The latter turned to him and said, "I'm not here for her"
Kyrell frowned in confusion, not knowing what else he could be here for, and asked, "Then.....?"
"I'm here to see you" Kaizer stated, "There is something that I wish to speak with you"
Kyrell was once again taken aback while Kaizer continued, "I wanted to apologize to you for everything that happened. I stood against you even though you did nothing wrong. What I did was not pleasant" This had been on his mind for the longest time now. Kaizer had indeed doubted the things that were said about Kyrell initially but he dropped that thought process when his beloved was taken away. He acted on his emotions instead of thinking rationally. This was not how his father had been about protecting his mother.
Kaizer's father, just like him was a rootless beastman that found a female that loved him regardless of his status. But even though she chose him, the others around her were adamant about proving her wrong and separating them. He saw his father fighting many beastmen that dared to forcefully take his mother from them and every time that happened, he kept a calm head before doing anything. This was what kept his mother safe by their side.
He, too, wanted to be like his father. To take care and always put his beloved's safety before his anger or ego. And as for Kyrell? The latter was powerful and loyal to his beloved so doubting him was stupid as well as foolish of him.
"I sincerely apologize for everything that happened," he said and left the place before Kyrell could reply. He was like a wind that stopped for no one.
