Ch. 23
Chapter 23: The Use of Divine Ability
Letting Iron Egg study the spell Blazing Flame Convergence on his own, Chen Beiwu sat cross-legged on the mat in the Cultivation Room, forming the opening hand seal of the Nine-Breath Chaos Divine Ability with both hands, and began his daily accumulation of Fate.
First Breath: Perceive Heaven's Fate.
As Chen Beiwu circulated the magic power within his dantian, with each inhalation and exhalation, strands of faint light like fireflies suddenly appeared in his spiritual perception.
This was the power of Fate that even Golden Core True Persons could not perceive, but he could clearly sense the pervasive Fate energy of Sky Abyss Star with the aid of the divine seal technique.
Second Breath: Restrain the Self.
With a change in hand seals, Chen Beiwu’s spiritual platform immediately became incomparably clear with each breath.
The reason the Fate energy within Sky Abyss Star was harmless was simply because no one could see it.
Conversely, if a powerful cultivator attempted to peer into the heavenly secrets and Fate, they would naturally be struck back by heaven and earth the moment they glimpsed it.
By utilizing the seal of Restraining the Self to channel the power of Nine-Breath Chaos, Chen Beiwu could remain unscathed amidst the wash of Fate.
The third, fourth, and fifth breaths were all about drawing in Fate.
Looking at the surrounding pervasive blue second-tier Fate and the sparse strands of orange Fate (suspected to be third-tier), Chen Beiwu was quite envious.
Unfortunately, with his current weak cultivation, he could only draw white and green Fate slowly toward himself.
Sixth Breath: Steal Heaven's Fate.
As Chen Beiwu completed his sixth cycle of inhalation and exhalation, the Nine-Breath Chaos residing at his heart remained unmoved, as if it cared not at all for the gathered white and green Fate.
‘This treasure is certainly good, but its only flaw is being picky. It just won’t listen. If only it would devour Fate as actively as it did during the Great Sun anomaly!’ Chen Beiwu felt a bit helpless.
Seventh Breath: Feed Heaven's Fate.
With each breath, Chen Beiwu stuffed all the gathered Fate into the Nine-Breath Chaos.
Soon, as strand after strand of Fate flowed into the Nine-Breath Chaos, the chaotic realm within began to give rise to a faint strand of light-blue Fate.
Eighth Breath: Raise Heaven's Fate.
Chen Beiwu preferred to call this stage shearing the wool of Nine-Breath Chaos.
As the energy surged within the chaotic realm, that wisp of fluttering blue Fate suddenly expanded and split into two slightly darker strands of blue Fate.
Ten strands made a wisp, ten wisps made a thread.
At his current pace of accumulating Fate, Chen Beiwu could gather a thread of blue Fate in fifty days.
Clearly, after breaking through to the Seventh Level of Qi Refining, his efficiency in accumulating Fate had improved significantly.
Ninth Breath: Transform into Fortuitous Encounters.
Chen Beiwu needed to invoke the power of Nine-Breath Chaos to condense a Fate Bell, then use the Fate Bell to transform his accumulated Fate into Spirit Fish, which he would release into the River of Fate to gain fortuitous encounters in the near future.
Because two strands of blue Fate could trigger only limited fortuitous encounters, Chen Beiwu did not operate the divine power to complete the ninth breath. Instead, he let them roam freely within the chaotic realm, enhancing his personal Fate.
“Hoo.”
Letting out a deep breath, Chen Beiwu slowly opened his eyes.
“Woof!”
Iron Egg let out a low growl, unable to meet Chen Beiwu’s gaze.
During those eight breaths when Chen Beiwu activated the divine power, it felt as though a deity had descended.
During that time, not to mention studying Blazing Flame Convergence, it didn’t even dare to move.
“What’s wrong? Don’t recognize me anymore?”
As Chen Beiwu smiled, Iron Egg finally relaxed a little.
“It’s time to eat.” He got up, opened the door of the Cultivation Room, and went downstairs. The tantalizing aroma of food immediately wafted over.
After just a few steps, Chen Beiwu noticed that the Spirit Beast meat, which had previously vanished near the ventilation area, had returned—but it was clearly much reduced in size.
‘Looks like the family crisis has passed.’ He felt a weight lift from his heart.
Seeing Chen Beiwu’s figure appear, Huang Xiaoling brought out a dish from the kitchen. “I made your favorite—Tomato and Scrambled Eggs—today.”
“That must taste great!” Chen Beiwu’s eyes lit up.
After lunch, Chen Beiwu called out to his mom and took out a jade bottle from his pocket, placing it on the table.
“What’s this?” Huang Xiaoling was momentarily stunned.
“Frost-Purifying Pill.”
To Chen Beiwu’s surprise, his mother didn’t show the expected joy. Instead, her brows furrowed even deeper.
“You fished this Frost-Purifying Pill out of Pearl River too?” she asked gravely.
“Of course not. How could there be a Frost-Purifying Pill in Pearl River?” Chen Beiwu feigned casualness. “It was a gift from a classmate.”
A trace of confusion appeared in Huang Xiaoling’s eyes, her mind nearly stalling. “A classmate... gifted it?”
From what she knew, the Frost-Purifying Pill had to be taken once a day for three consecutive days to completely remove cold poison from the user.
And a single Frost-Purifying Pill sold for 800 lower-grade Spirit Stones on the Immortal Alliance Official Website. Three pills would cost 2,400 lower-grade Spirit Stones.
What kind of classmate could afford such generosity—to give a gift worth over two thousand Spirit Stones?
Her son might as well have said he fished it out of Pearl River—it’d be more believable!
Huang Xiaoling took a deep breath. “Was it a male classmate or a female classmate?”
“Female classmate.” Chen Beiwu had no intention of hiding it—he couldn’t even if he wanted to.
Hearing this, Huang Xiaoling couldn’t help but glance at the Frost-Purifying Pill, her thoughts spinning.
That girl hadn’t just sent a bottle of pills—she’d delivered Spirit Stones and favors the Chen family couldn’t repay.
Two uses from one pill—this girl really knew what she was doing!
“Which female classmate?” Huang Xiaoling pressed.
Chen Beiwu hesitated for a moment, then answered truthfully, “Xu Lingling.”
‘No wonder!’ Huang Xiaoling felt relieved.
She had met Xu Lingling once and had a deep impression of her.
From her appearance, the girl seemed pure, shy, and amiable.
From her background, she hailed from one of the three major branches of the Fallen Dragon Xu Family. Her father, Xu Tianguang, was the magistrate of Yuan Kong County and also the head of their branch.
The Fallen Dragon Xu Family had established their name through pill refinement and were a prestigious Golden Core Family within Fallen Dragon Manor, controlling nearly thirty percent of the pill market across the six counties in the manor.
Though over two thousand Spirit Stones was a fortune that an average cultivator couldn’t earn in decades, to a noble heir like Xu Lingling, it might be nothing—perhaps not even worth a meal.
Looking at Chen Beiwu’s peerlessly handsome face, Huang Xiaoling calmly said, “Return the pills. We’re just a humble family. We can’t afford to owe a Golden Core Family.”
“I tried, but she wouldn’t take them back,” Chen Beiwu replied helplessly.
A single pill from a noble family could cost a poor cultivator their life.
He knew his mother didn’t want him to owe anyone, fearing he might not be able to repay and would end up selling his life to settle the debt.
“Listen to me. Return them,” Huang Xiaoling said firmly, casting him a sharp glance.
“The pills should be used when needed. It’s just a thousand Spirit Stones—I can afford it.” Chen Beiwu said seriously.
Huang Xiaoling’s tone turned stern. “Just? How will you afford it?”
“I’m confident I can reach the Eighth Level of Qi Refining during my second year. Is that enough?” Chen Beiwu opened his palm, and a vividly lifelike miniature avatar appeared silently.
“Not enough,” his mother replied flatly.
“I’m confident I’ll break through to the Ninth Level of Qi Refining before the Immortal Exams and gain admission to the Thirteen Immortal Sects. Will that be enough?” Chen Beiwu said solemnly.
