Chapter 20
The room was tidy.
Even though it had been left empty for quite some time, it was clear that someone had been regularly maintaining it until recently, as dust was almost nonexistent.
“Hmm.”
Sitting in the room’s chair, wearing a headset and looking at the computer, was a woman.
Her long, obsidian-black hair was styled in a ponytail, and her deep brown eyes held a cool demeanor. With her tall and toned figure, it wouldn’t be surprising if someone asked whether she was a model upon first sight.
In fact, she was indeed a reader model for a famous magazine, so if anyone had such a guess, it could only be seen as a predestined coincidence.
The computer that Kayanoh Mina’s older sister, Kayanoh Yuki, was watching had a video playing on “OnTube.”
On the broadcast screen, set against a school backdrop, stood an avatar of a young girl.
With shoulder-length hair resembling Yuki’s, her solid black locks and sharp red eyes made a striking impression. A slightly tilted cap and a silver jewel choker hugged her neck.
The girl’s subtle smile and prominently protruding canine teeth revealed her vibrant personality at a glance.
From Yuki’s headset, a calm yet somewhat frightened voice flowed out.
[Th-Thank you for the red hyper chat… do y-you have any fun stories with your family?]
“….”
Yuki silently gulped at those words.
Kainoh Izumi. No, she knew very well that good words would never come out of Mina’s mouth.
How could someone who saw her no more than twice a year think favorably of her?
All her sister had done was occasionally send her gifts.
Yuki wanted to mute the broadcast right away. If Mina were to say she disliked her sister, she knew for sure she’d end up running out of the house in tears.
But she also understood that was her own karma.
“…I can’t run away.”
[W-Well, my sister came back home t-to rest for a bit.]
As if on cue, Yuki quietly bit her lip and closed her eyes when her own story came up.
[Um. Lately, it feels a bit… um, awkward.]
At Mina’s words, Yuki thought she wanted to mute the sound and bury herself in her bed to cry.
But—
[A-Ah, I don’t hate my sister. I actually like her. B-But I’m worried that maybe because of the age gap, it feels awkward. …I’d be more worried that my sister doesn’t like me.]
“…Huh?”
Yuki’s mind came to a standstill at Mina’s following words.
She couldn’t properly hear the rest.
However—
[A-Ah, I don’t hate my sister. I actually like her.]
[I actually like her.]
[I like her.]
That part had already been firmly etched into Yuki’s brain.
[A-Ah, no way! We’re a pair of super beauties, little sister and big sister!]
“…Hehe.”
When Mina praised her as beautiful, Yuki let out a silly smile, proving they were sisters.
Yuki felt happier than ever before.
“I should have a drink….”
Of course, Yuki never hated Mina.
In fact, it would be an understatement to say she cherished and liked her.
Initially, the thought of “hating Mina” was entirely impossible for Yuki.
How could she ever dislike such a cute and lovely younger sister?
With hair more delicate and beautiful than silk, soft brown locks; dreamy blue eyes that gave an impression of calmness; and skin that was smooth and moist, just like when she was a child, without any makeup at all.
Mina always had this adorable aura, which added an extra allure to her appearance.
To Yuki, Mina was like a doll. No, she was even cuter than a doll, and with a nine-year age gap, every action of Mina’s was simply adorable to Yuki.
As proof, Yuki’s wallet was a gift from Mina on her birthday four years ago, and her phone’s background was a picture of Mina sleeping.
Mina’s virtual avatar, “Kainoh Izumi,” had jet-black hair, crafted at Yuki’s request from her mom.
If it weren’t for her job, Yuki would surely still be living at home.
No, to be honest, Yuki wanted to quit her job immediately.
‘Ah, just where’s that dark uncle’s survival story?!’
But knowing that Mina enjoyed the anime she’d scripted made it impossible to act on those thoughts.
If she heard the next work didn’t interest Mina, she’d quit….
It had been five years since she started writing with that thought process, but for better or worse, Yuki’s scripts had all precisely matched Mina’s preferences.
She wanted to quickly quit being a scriptwriter and come back home, surprising Mina with the revelation, ‘The anime and game scripts you found fun were written by your sister.’
But it was still far from reality.
“…But still, I dislike feeling awkward.”
In front of Mina, Yuki became silent and tense, while the negative Mina’s basic demeanor was bolstered by her low self-esteem.
So naturally, misunderstandings occurred between the two sisters.
Yuki wished to clarify those misunderstandings as soon as possible, but since they weren’t very talkative sisters, it was far from easy.
“How can I resolve it….”
As the night deepened, beer cans piled up on Yuki’s desk.
★
“…I guess I should sleep soon.”
After finishing the game and chatting for a whole fifteen minutes, sleepiness crept in.
Looking at the bottom-right corner of her computer screen, it was already 10:30 PM.
Wow, if she were a healthy high school girl, it would be time for a good night’s sleep….
For now, she headed back to OnTube’s main page.
Of course, she remembered there was no Natsune’s live broadcast at this time, but she sometimes did guerilla streams.
Fortunately, there was no sign of Natsune’s live broadcast on her channel.
Phew. She could sleep soundly now.
Just to be sure, she also checked channels of those who often collabed with Natsune, but thankfully, nothing to worry about occurred.
After playing games for five whole hours, and chatting for fifteen minutes, she was just eager to sleep.
Her head was spinning….
Next time, she should limit her chat broadcast to just thirty minutes after playing a game.
After doing a brief ego-surfing in the community, she turned off her computer and lay down on her bed.
“Hmm.”
Slowly, her eyes began to close.
Accepting the overwhelming drowsiness, she quietly shut her eyes.
After all her hard work today, she had the right to sleep comfortably….
★
Click.
Thud thud.
“…Huh?”
As the door opened, and someone walked in noisily, my consciousness rose gently from the darkness.
I was quite sensitive when I slept, and even the slightest noise would wake me up.
However, with this amount of clamor, there was no way I could keep sleeping.
Naturally, my family knew this, so they usually kept quiet when I was sleeping.
No, they’d never actually come into my room.
Wait a moment.
Could it be… a burglar?!
“…Mina.”
Fortunately, that ominous thought quickly faded thanks to my sister’s awkward yet familiar voice.
Still, after calming my racing heart, I grabbed my phone to check the time.
It was 2:48 AM, the middle of the night.
What’s going on?
There was no way Sis would come into my room at this hour….
“…Mina. Are you sleeping?”
But something felt off with her voice.
It wasn’t coherent; it seemed muffled and slurred.
“I-I woke up, Sis.”
“…Hehe. Mina, did I wake you?”
If I had to compare it, it sounded like someone was completely drunk.
No, it honestly felt like my sister was tipsy.
What was worse was that she looked like a wreck with that smile on her face, and her tongue was all twisted.
But why would she drink that much?
I had seen her drink once or twice, but never to the point of being drunk in front of me.
…Could it be that something happened at her modeling job?
“Umm.”
“Hey, Sis?”
Then, she stumbled over, standing right in front of my bed and, smiling, began to stroke my cheek.
That grin was completely devoid of the usual cold demeanor, like all her tension had melted away.
“My cute little sister.”
“Eek….”
Sis moved her face closer without hesitation.
We were close enough that a slight movement could brush our noses together.
But there was no malice in that action, so I merely held my breath and gazed into her deep brown eyes and—
“Uh, uh, Sis, um, you… smell like alcohol a bit….”
But I found it impossible to say that.
“Ah, Mina, I had a little too much to drink today.”
Sis emanated such an overpowering scent of alcohol that I couldn’t even begin to guess how much she had consumed.
The only relief was that it smelled somewhat fruity, like she had consumed some fruit beer, but it was mixed with a harshness of liquor unmistakably present.
“Hehe, Mina. You know I’m the one who doesn’t know how to hold my liquor. But thanks for always being there for me… I really love you, and… I’m glad you love me too….”
“Uh, um, Sis?!”
Saying that, she engulfed me in a tight hug.
Uh-huh, but, uh, the smell of alcohol! I had just mentioned it!
“Mom’s busy, and I know since I handle everything, I should be there for Mina even more. Thank you for putting up with me, Mina….”
There was nothing wrong, right?!
In fact, I often enjoyed my time being alone at home!
I had been living quite well!
There was no need for any guilt!
But the more I tried to convey those thoughts, the less they seemed to register with my tipsy sister.
Instead, she just hugged me more tightly, expressing her feelings of gratitude.
So what on earth was the solution to this problem? I pondered for a moment.
Maybe I could use it being dawn as an excuse.
“Um, Sis. It’s kind of late, and um, we should probably sleep….”
“Ah… You’re right.”
Finally, Sis seemed to understand, loosening her embrace, pulling back a bit to nod.
“Then, shall we sleep?”
…Huh?
Was that conclusion a little…?
“Um, Sis?!”
Without hesitation, she climbed into bed behind me, collapsing onto the sheets.
I pulled with all my might, but as someone who rarely exercised, I couldn’t budge my tipsy sister even slightly.
“…Um, do you mean you want to sleep together? Because I think… um, that might not be good?”
“Uh, uh, is it bad?”
That was, uh, not fair.
With my sister being the embodiment of femininity that had always captivated my heart with her charm, how could I possibly refuse when she gazed at me with sad puppy eyes?
“…It’s okay.”
“Yay!”
Sis beamed brightly.
She smiled like a little child.
And then she hugged me tightly from the back.
“Hehe. Mina’s body is super soft….”
“Um, um, Sis, that….”
Your body is super soft too! Especially, um, and there’s a nice scent too!
If I said something like that, wouldn’t it be considered harassment?!
But, judging by what I learned from Tateyama, it might be okay? Or not?!
Is it okay to let my primal instincts loose?!
“Hehehe….”
“Eek!”
As if that wasn’t enough, she began to feel me up!
I can’t let this happen! Something needs to change or—
“Sis, um, it feels stuffy, shouldn’t we sleep in our own rooms?”
“Just turn on the air conditioner!”
“…That’s true.”
“…Mina, if you like me, give me a kiss.”
“W-Wait, shouldn’t we sleep in our own rooms?!”
“…Is that so? You’d rather not?”
“I like you! I-I do like you!”
“Hehe, I like Mina too.”
“Whaaaat?!”
Of course, with my communication skills, I couldn’t convince Sis otherwise.
In the end, I ended up staying awake for a while even after Sis fell into a deep sleep, finally drifting off around 5 AM.
But at least I knew she didn’t hate me.
That was a relief, but next time I could see she’d been drinking, I think I’ll lock the door while sleeping.
