Awaken the Tenseigan, Become the Mastermind of the Shinobi World

Chapter 177: Chapter 177: Obito Strikes — Don’t You Dare Laugh at Nagato

Naruto didn't have time to grieve. Without hesitation, he dashed toward the battlefield where the Six Paths of Pain were engaged. The five shinobi still standing were barely holding on.

The relentless onslaught from the Six Paths had already overwhelmed Jiraiya and the others.

When Naruto arrived at the scene of the fierce battle, he found his comrades collapsed across the ground—battered, drained, and barely clinging to life.

His eyes narrowed in focus. In an instant, he activated Nine-Tails Chakra Mode. A torrent of chakra surged through his body like a roaring tidal wave.

The moment Pain spotted Naruto, he didn't waste a single word. All six bodies moved simultaneously, launching a storm of fierce attacks. But Naruto stayed calm and composed, evading wave after wave of strikes with the enhanced perception granted by Sage Mode.

Backed by the immense power of Nine-Tails Chakra Mode, Naruto quickly repelled the Six Paths of Pain. Without a second thought, he grabbed one of the black receivers from the ground and stabbed it into his own body, immediately sensing Nagato's location.

He was about to rush in that direction when Jiraiya slowly pushed himself up, taking two deep breaths.

"Naruto… I'm coming with you."

"Sensei, I can handle it alone. You should rest," Naruto said, worry lacing his voice.

Jiraiya shook his head.

"No. Nagato and the others… they were my students. The path they've chosen—I bear responsibility too."

Naruto saw the firm resolve in Jiraiya's eyes and knew there was no convincing him otherwise. He nodded.

"Alright then, Sensei. Let's go together."

...

Elsewhere, Konan, watching the situation unfold outside, turned back and said, "Let's go. We'll get the Nine-Tails another time."

But Nagato stubbornly shook his head. "I want to see him one last time."

And so, the two of them set out toward Nagato's location. The journey was filled with tension and heavy silence.

Eventually, Naruto and Jiraiya broke through the forest of paper trees that Konan had used to disguise their hideout, finally coming face to face with Nagato.

He looked more fragile than ever—his body gaunt, his breath faint.

Nagato closed his eyes, refusing to meet their gaze. "Jiraiya-sensei… so we meet again."

Jiraiya's expression was conflicted as he looked at him.

"Nagato… it didn't have to come to this."

Nagato let out a cold chuckle. "Sensei, do you still not understand the truth of this world? Peace… is nothing more than a delusion."

Naruto couldn't hold back. "Nagato, what you're doing is wrong. All you're creating is more pain!"

Nagato opened his eyes, staring at Naruto.

"What do you know? You've never experienced the kind of despair I have."

Jiraiya sighed. "Nagato… this wasn't your dream. Do you remember the dreams we once shared?"

For a moment, Nagato was silent. Then he said, slowly, "Dreams? In this cruel world, dreams are long dead. Pain and injustice are everywhere. Only by making everyone suffer equally can we achieve peace."

Jiraiya stepped forward, regret in his voice.

"You were once a child who believed in dreams. Why take such a twisted path now?"

Nagato was quiet for a while, then spoke: "The peace you believe in… is impossible."

Naruto's fists clenched. "No. As long as we don't give up, there's always a way. I've faced so many hardships, but I've never stopped believing. One day, we'll all understand each other, and the wars will end."

Jiraiya added gently, "Nagato… come back. Let's find that path to true peace—together."

Naruto stepped forward, speaking with sincerity.

"I understand your pain, Nagato."

Then he began to tell his story—his lonely childhood, the loss of his parents, how he had been used by Hiruzen Sarutobi... all the grief he had endured.

He pulled out a book—Jiraiya's debut novel, The Tale of the Gutsy Ninja.

"Pervy Sage got the idea for this book from you guys… And my name—'Naruto'—came from the main character. Nagato, please… believe in me."

Hearing Naruto's heartfelt words, Nagato saw something in him—something that reminded him of Yahiko, and of himself. In that moment, he understood: Naruto was the one Jiraiya had spoken of, the one who could truly bring peace to the shinobi world.

Nagato opened his eyes. "Maybe… maybe you really can find a way. I'll be watching, Naruto. But before that—I need to atone for what I've done."

With that, he began forming hand seals. Using the last of his life force, he activated Outer Path: Samsara of Heavenly Life Technique. A brilliant light burst forth, and one by one, those who had died in the battle began to stir and open their eyes—revived.

As the jutsu ended, Nagato's strength was utterly spent. His body slumped forward, and Naruto hurried to catch him, feeling the renewed chakra of countless lives outside. His eyes were full of awe and gratitude.

"Thank you, Nagato-san," Naruto said, voice trembling.

Konan quietly moved to Nagato's side, tears welling in her eyes.

"Nagato…" Her voice cracked with emotion.

Nagato gave a faint smile and looked at Naruto.

"Naruto… I hope you really do bring peace. Don't let my sacrifice be in vain. And… talk to Hyuga Gakuya. Try to convince him."

Naruto nodded firmly. "I will. I promise."

...

As the group was still overcome with emotion from Nagato's sacrifice, space suddenly began to distort.

Uchiha Obito appeared out of nowhere.

Beneath his mask, his expression was unreadable—but a smug glint in his eye betrayed his satisfaction.

"Heh… quite the show," Obito sneered.

Before anyone could react, Obito moved at lightning speed. In an instant, he snatched Nagato's corpse.

"Obito, you bastard!" Naruto roared.

Obito laughed maniacally.

"That's what you get for betraying me. The Rinnegan in Nagato's body—such rare power. Of course I'd take it."

"And I must thank all of you. Without your help, reclaiming the Rinnegan would've been far more troublesome."

Naruto lunged forward, furious. "Don't you dare laugh at Nagato!"

Jiraiya's brow furrowed. "Obito, what the hell are you planning?!"

Obito scoffed. "You fools could never understand the world I seek to create."

And with that, he vanished in a flicker of distorted space.

Naruto, Jiraiya, and Konan moved to intercept him, launching a coordinated attack.

But even surrounded, Obito slipped away using Kamui, phasing through the ground and escaping effortlessly.

...

After he disappeared, Naruto stood trembling with fury, his eyes blazing with rage.

"That bastard… I'll never forgive him!" His voice echoed across the ruined battlefield.

Jiraiya's expression was grim. He knew this was only the beginning of something even more dangerous.

"Calm down, Naruto. Anger won't solve anything now. We have to prepare for what's coming."

But Naruto couldn't calm himself. Obito's arrogant smirk kept replaying in his mind, fueling the fire in his heart.
