Awaiting the Moon's Return in the Southern City

Chapter 4: Chapter 4: Mr. Charlie Really Likes Me

Divorce?

Emma Tonkin's body trembled with fear as she asked shakily, "What divorce?"

Jonas Thompson and Ava White had already gotten out of the car and were now looking down at them.

Ava's eyes gleamed with malicious delight. Seeing that Jonas wasn't speaking up, she sighed and said, "Looks like Mr. Charlie didn't touch Iris, huh? Such a wasted opportunity. It's rare to have a connection with someone like Mr. Charlie in the family..."

Her words successfully struck a nerve in Jonas.

For years he had been trying to curry favor with the Charlie family, yet they looked down on his middle-scale enterprise.

He yelled furiously, "What has the family gained from raising you all? You're ugly and disgraceful enough, but you can't even hold on to a good opportunity! The three of you – you, your daughter, and that bastard abroad – are worthless! Get out! I want a divorce, and I want all of you out with nothing!"

Eve Thompson kept her head low, a cold smile on her face hidden by her hair.

Thrown out with nothing?

How ruthless!

Emma, who Eve was supporting, let out an incredulous gasp, "How can you treat me like this? The company was founded by my father!"

Jonas was a typical social-climbing man, who had married into the Tonkin family.

Unfortunately, two years after the marriage, Elder Tonkin died, giving Jonas the opportunity to take control of the entire Tonkin Group.

Hearing Emma's words, Jonas's face darkened, and Ava quickly spoke up, "Sis, you misunderstand. Jonas is doing this for the good of the company. Do you know the fate of women who have tried to climb into Mr. Charlie's bed but failed? Divorcing you is to protect the company! You don't want to see the Tonkin family's company, your father's business, ruined, do you?"

After Ava finished, she nudged Jonas, who then handed Emma the divorce agreement. He threatened, "The stocks of Tonkin Group are now in my hands. You better sign this divorce agreement obediently, or don't blame me for being ruthless!"

Emma wanted to speak up, but Ava interrupted, "Sis, don't blame us for being heartless. We're doing this for the company's sake. If you want to blame someone, blame Iris for offending Mr. Charlie..."

"Who said I offended Mr. Charlie?"

Eve had wanted to speak up earlier, she had been thinking about how to mimic her sister's tone, and finally managed to say the sentence gently after recalling Emma's usual demeanor over the phone.

Ava was taken aback, sensing something off in the tone of that sentence.

She turned to look at Eve, who stood there innocently. With the birthmark on her face, she had the habit of lowering her head submissively, appearing compliant.

Ava thought she was overthinking, so she asked, "Iris, what do you mean?"

Eve continued to lower her head, her voice even softer and sweeter as she imitated her sister, "Mr. Charlie likes me a lot."

Her words left all three of them stunned.

Ava could no longer feign calm, her voice turning shrill as she asked, "How is that possible? What could Mr. Charlie possibly like about you?"

"Maybe..."

Eve's voice was still soft. She tilted her head slightly, her serious expression answering, "He likes me for being 'ugly'?"

Crowd: ...

What's with this 'I'm ugly, and I'm proud' attitude?!

Eve still looked as harmless and meek as ever, but the smile in the corner of her eye enjoyed the sight of Ava and Jonas's expressions turning from blue to white.
