Chapter 8: Chosen Class
For the first time Since entering the tower I was absolutely terrified, because for the first time someone actually was severely injured. It would be one thing if it was me but my son? That is a whole new type of fear that I wished I didn't have to experience.
"We should take a break here for a while, or at least until he can move again" Callum interrupted my thoughts.
"Yes, that seems like a good idea" I said, still a bit distracted.
Probably seeing the mood, I was in Analay interjected "Thank you for this Callum"
"No problem, you should all get some rest, I'll look around the area and keep monsters away," Callum said.
Even with his quick answers I could see how this affected him too, most likely didn't expect any of us to actually get injured. As Callum left for the edge of the forest we all sat down next to my unconscious boy and tried to get some rest.
It was a long night/day. It's hard to tell it never really gets dark in the tower, it just dims a bit. Fortunately, I was able to get some sleep but when I woke up, he still had not come out of his unconscious state.
"Please be okay" I hear.
Coming out of my waking fog I noticed Analay brushing his head. "He will be," I answered.
"When did you wake up?" she exclaimed, startled.
"Just a moment but long enough to see he's made little improvement"
"He Tun, I should talk to you," Callum said, coming from the forest.
Quickly standing up I answer "What about"
"It's about the fifth floor..." he started.
"I will not be fighting the boss any time soon" I interjected.
"It's not that it's about the safe zone"
"What about it?"
"What makes the safe zone is something called a class stone, and it gives you a class"
"Class?"
"If you open your status, you should see a section for a class that's empty"
Name: He Tun
Class: N/A
Level: 9
XP: 0/50
Strength- 7
Endurance-3
Agility: 6
Constitution: 3
Will: 2
Mind: 1
Spirit: 1
Free point: 1
Skills: [Edge Weapons 5]
"It says N/A"
"That just means there's nothing there"
"Okay? What is a class then"
"It's sort of like a job that you chose to direct your skills and abilities"
"Abilities?"
"Well get to that later, the important thing is that once you take one you will not only get more points into attributes per level but will be strong enough to fend off dozens on fire nation soldiers if needed"
"Truly" I questioned, this seemed almost too good to be true.
"But you have to be level ten to take a class"
"Level ten!" I yelled surprised, after days fighting and walking around the floors, I only made it to level nine due to fighting bosses.
"Yes, so I was thinking that while your son recovers you would like to hunt some goblins or other things to get the XP"
"That sounds like a good idea, I'll get on that right away"
"Sounds good, I'll stay here and do what I can"
"Alright"
I stood up grabbing my battered sword and walked into the forest, it didn't take long for me to find a goblin. Luckily they are quite stupid so just a few strikes of my sword was enough to kill it.
[+6 experience]
"Well this is going to take a while," I said to myself.
I was right it did take almost three days to level up to ten. In that time I did return to the small camp we had set up near the floor exit. My son had woken up a day or so ago but was still too weak to do anything and my other son's were adamant about staying with him which was fine with me. I hadn't put my free point from level nine into anything so as soon as I leveled up, I threw one point into strength again and another into endurance at Callum's advice.
Name: He Tun
Class: N/A
Level: 10
XP: 3/100
Strength- 8
Endurance-4
Agility: 6
Constitution: 3
Will: 2
Mind: 1
Spirit: 1
Free point: 1
Skills: [Edge Weapons 6]
Walking back to the camp I announce my presence "I am ready to go to floor five"
"That's good and it looks like your son is doing a lot better now so we can move him. Once we get to the safe zone, I'll help to set up a more permanent place to live" Callum stated.
"Alright let's go"
Supporting my son with my shoulder we followed Callum through the entrance of the next floor. As soon as we entered I felt an immediate difference compared to the previous floors. Although the previous floors looked open, they always gave me the feeling of being in someone's house but this floor felt as if I stood out in the open.
"Chirp, chirp"
Hearing the birds I looked up to find a flock of them overhead. "This is…magical"
Callum was quick to answer "yeah this floor seems to have a lot of animals in addition to monsters".
"What monsters?" Analay asked.
"Like the previous floor there are goblins, tree frogs and grey wolves. There is also horned rabbits and even green slimes"
"Great more goblins," I complained.
"Yeah, these ones are very similar to the previous ones fi not a bit stronger"
"Stronger!" I exclaimed.
"You will be fine once you get your class, now let's make our way to the safe zone"
Following Callum through the thick forest we eventually made it to quite the large clearing. The most striking thing was the black obelisk standing in the middle.
"Alright He Tun just approach the obelisk and touch it should let you pick your class"
Moving forward I placed my hand on the rough stone and felt as it started to hum.
[ prerequisites met class selection started]
Fighter +1 strength, endurance, vitality
Mage +1 spirit, mind
Healer +1 spirit, will
Explorer +1 endurance +2 Free point
"Alright let's take a look at these" after reading through each one I really wanted to pick mage or healer but the other two gave more stat points.
Explorer: Stats each level: +1 endurance +2 Free point
The Explorer is a class focused on adventure and traveling. They generally don't specialize in any sort of combat or magic and instead focus on the more unconventional skills/abilities. They have an initial choice of Abilities being either a personnel mini map, identify or a personnel storage space.
Fighter: stats each level: +1 strength, endurance, vitality
The fighter class is for people who fight up close. They use a variety of weapons from swords to hammers. Depending on your chosen weapon you might even use a shield. This class offers the starting abilities of Yell and Empower.
"Alright, fighter seems like what I need right now" I said to myself.
[Fighter chosen please choose ability]
Yell: this ability amplifiers your voice to stun enemies and is particularly effective to enemies with sensitive hearing. Empower: This ability calls on your fighting spirit to increase your strength for a short time letting you get a good hit in.
"I don't know what it means by stun, but more strength is always good".
[Empower chosen]
