Chapter 8: Chapter 8

Within a massive camp close to the river, it was filled with tents and armed men who were in good spirits after they had successfully sabotaged a massive supply reinforcement coming from the Earth Kingdom. These are the rebel army that is led by Lian, who was sleeping comfortably on the biggest tent. Anyone who saw this would think that there's no war going on around him, by the way he's sleeping with a smile, but it's far from that, as the Rebel army doesn't just attack the Earth Kingdom and sabotage any reinforcements that they sent to the Frontline to fight the Fire Nation army, they also fight and ambush Fire Nation a lot, more than the Earth Kingdom.

They didn't hate the Earth Kingdom that much, but they just want to end its monarchy and end the nobles who they thought were treating them as slaves and ants while living the best lifes. On the other hand, they were very hateful of Fire Nation for attacking their land to the point that no mercy was given to them whenever they met.

So they basically have been fighting two strong and massive armies by themselves, and they're surprisingly winning a lot, especially when Lian joined the battle and then they suddenly started dominating the battlefield from then on. The rebels revered Lian very much and thought that his leadership would get them to their victory goal easily, based on their recent victories against their enemies, but they have no idea that they're mainly winning because of the special forces and army from the Ten Pillars that join their ranks and pretend to be one of them.

Inside Lian's massive tent, a middle-aged man wearing green military uniform similar to that one from the Earth Kingdom Military but with much more defense and details around it for much more protection, as he is a high ranking member of the rebel army. He is wearing an armband with a symbol of the Earth Kingdom, but with a split in the middle of it. It is the symbol of the rebel army and their flag. He entered the room without any permission and went straight in front of his sleeping leader.

"I know you're awake," he said as he sat on a chair. Lian, who was pretending to sleep after sensing his right-hand man's presence from earlier, smirked as he opened his eyes and sat on the bed. "It's rude to enter your leader's tent without his permission, you know." Lian didn't really care about those formalities since it was his close friend and his right-hand man, who was a very strong earth bender, just a little bit weaker than him.

The right-hand man, Li, ignored Lian's words as he said, "I received new orders, and it was directed by Kizer himself." It immediately got Lian serious after hearing that, as Kizer's commands are absolute for him and others, and they take them very seriously every time he gives a command, after all, every time he did, it significantly affected their goals positively. Even though it appears on the surface that Kizer was just a member of the Ten Pillars, he was actually the de facto leader of it and could command every single one of them without being questioned. That's how powerful he was within the minds of his subordinates, or as he called it, his Creations.

Seeing that Lian grew serious, Li proceeded to explain, "A messenger recently arrived, and he says that Kizer has ordered Huan to accelerate the Fire Nation army's advancement. And it looked like our army would have a significant role in this. Lady Huan told us to do whatever we want to accelerate the Fire Nation army invasion..." Lian couldn't help but give a disappointed sigh. "It looked like we would have to attack those bastards less, unfortunately. I really enjoyed destroying their smug and arrogant faces to the ground..."

"So what do you plan?" Li asked.

"I guess we continue to weaken the Earth Kingdom army and give the Fire Nation army much less resistance, that's just all there is. Though the problem will come when the fools we call our army start to notice it, they might hate the Earth King and the nobles, but they hate Fire Nation much more for killing their own." Lian wasn't scared if the rebels under him turned rogue and rebelled against him since they're very weak without him and the Ten Pillas army within it, but if they really did do that, then it would significantly affect the strength of the army, since they make up most of the personnel and their numbers are their intimidation tactics against the Fire Nation and the Earth Kingdom.

"I suggest that we should just replace the rebels, except those under us, with a new one from the secret army under the Ten Pillars," since they know that the rebels under them will likely dislike their plan on decreasing the attacks on the Fire Nation side, then it needed to be replaced as soon as possible; at least that's what Li was thinking.

Lian went up and sat down on an empty chair before saying, "How will we do that?"

"We could spread our army thin between the Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom sides, that will look like a wall between the two sides so the army wouldn't be suspicious of our plan. It will make it look like we are spreading out to cover more areas to gain more stronghold, as well as to have more attacking points towards our enemies, but this plan is to weaken our army slowly as we continue to do what we usually do, and as well as to replace them with new ones that are loyal to us," Li said.

"Alright, we'll go with your plan," Lian said without hesitation. He didn't really think about whether the plan would work or not, it just sounded good, so he went with it. And he couldn't really think of any better ways to do it—a better way to put it is that he didn't want to think of any alternative. That's the job of Li, who Huan sent to him to assist him in managing the rebel army, he's only here to act as a leader and fight, whether he wants to or not, and he's honestly liking it here. Nonstop fighting with two massive armies against their smaller army, and yet they win a lot.

-----

In a defile terrain, foot soldiers moved to the front of the formation, holding their respective weapons for their non-benders units, while on their backs was a cavalry of soldiers mounted on an ostrich horse, all holding a standard Guandao. In the very middle were all the Earth Bender units, while on their backs were tons of heavily defended wagons that were getting pulled by a military ostrich horse. This is a reinforcements and supply unit that was moving towards the Frontline on the west of the Earth Kingdom to support the ongoing defense against the invasion of the Fire Nation. This unit was led by Major Fung, who was getting anxious as they passed through this narrow passage.

They could've moved to a different path, but the front needed reinforcements fast, so they chose the shortcut. They know that the rebel army was growing strong in this region and always ambushed any units that the Earth Kingdom sent, but they had no choice since it was an order from a general that they arrived there within a week.

He heard that the Fire Nation was pushing hard and was controlling more and more cities, so it was a bad situation for them right now.

And now, the traitorous rebels, who instead of helping them, do the opposite.

Fung couldn't help but grit his teeth in frustration just by thinking about it. He heard that the Rebel army's goal is to establish a government where there's no king or noble, but how will they establish one if the Earth Kingdom is destroyed! It just seems foolish for them to weaken the strongest resistance against the Fire Nation invasion.

"How close are we now?" Fung asked one of the captains on his side.

"We are one day away from the Frontline, Major Fung," the captain said.

Fung nodded and said, "What about the scouts, have they found anything yet?" The captain shook his head and said, "No scouting units have returned yet, Major."

Hearing that, Fung felt something ominous, so he looked up and there, he saw people dressed in typical Earth Kingdom uniforms, but what made him panic inside was the armband they were wearing.

It had the symbol of the Earth Kingdom, but with a cut in the middle of it: "Rebels!! Earth Benders, form a rock barrier!!"

Immediately, all the Earth Benders, including the captains and Major Fung, used their Earth Bending techniques to control the earth and surround themselves from above. And as they expected, the rebels pushed the massive boulders from above, which were traveling down quickly, once they hit the defensive earth shield that the Earth Kingdom army formed below, they shattered some parts of it, while the smaller ones only made a minor impact.

Many quickly died from the ambush, mainly the infantry and cavalry wasn't covered by the defense that the Earth Benders formed, while many of the Earth Benders were saved, especially Major Fung and his captains.

Some of the supply wagons were also hit hard, which destroyed them.

However, the rebels above didn't stop there, as they continued to rain down rocks from above.

Seeing this, Li decided to stop them from further attacking, they had met their objectives to weaken and possibly push back the reinforcements and supply unit. He looked at his men and said, "I'll come down there and talk with their leader, wait for further commands."

Li then used his Earth bending to quickly drive down from the top. When he arrived there, he was quickly noticed by Major Fung, who was covered with dust and full of injuries. "You traitorous cowards!"

He then stomped on the ground, and instantly a large spike was created targeting Li. But Li stopped it by slapping the spike with the back of his hand, destroying it. "Don't give me a reason to kill you."

Fung ignored those words, "Have you no shame?! You're destroying this Kingdom and letting the Fire Nation walk over us!"

"Enough, I don't care about any words you say. We're doing this for the greater world, and a dog like you shouldn't be part of it. But I will give you mercy today and tell your masters on Ba Sing Se that we control this territory and we won't allow any more military from Earth Kingdom to walk here. If you don't do as we say, then this is just the start of it," Li said.

"Bastard!" However, he didn't have the power to fight back now, since he was weakened from the ambush earlier, so the only choice he had right now was to retreat and tell the general about this.

He turned around in retreat, followed by the survivors of his units, but before he got far away from Li, he turned around and said coldly, with anger evident in his eyes, "This isn't over."
