Chapter 80: The Difference Between Destined and Commonfolk

Those ranked in the 50s got some decent stuff—invaluable in the eyes of your average Core Formation Realm Cultivator—but they were in the Golden Core and Nascent Soul Realms. Thus, it was all deemed garbage—no different from common household items.

Trial Takers ranked 31-49 finally got into the Treasure Trove pile. Those ranked higher received the Red Troves, whereas those ranked lower were given the Blue Troves. This made it obvious that the colors signified more than just a variegated color palette.

"Oh? A Medicinal Qi Grass Stalk. I can give this to my Junior Brother when I return."

"A Sacred Bull's Left Testicle!? I heard crushing these into a powder can have your little bro standing proud for days on end!"

"Lucky! But I also obtained something good—Cupid's Blessed Aphrodisiac—an Earth-ranked potion extremely hard to come by! I'll be using this tonight on the goats, baby!"

Except for the poor fates of some unfortunate goats, everyone's luck was up. What they received would entice even Nascent Soul Realm Cultivators. Of course, treasure was in the eye of the beholder, so even lesser items were favorably seen by certain people.

"What will you get, Big Bro? Bull test… ta… claw?" Lily twisted her tongue while attempting to pronounce an unfamiliar word, her expression cutely puzzled. "One of those??"

Knox shook his head. Slightly chuckling, he replied, "I don't know yet, but hopefully, it's something good. Else we'll be starving tonight."

"Starve…"

Devastation suddenly drained all the color from Lily's complexion.

"Don't want that…! Don't want that at all!"

"Then pray with Big Brother here," Knox said, smiling. "This is a crucial moment for your character development, Lily. A gambling moment. One of the purest forms of enjoyment in this world—right up there with alcohol. Both of which should be cherished eternally!"

Lily fervently nodded. "Will pray! Pray, pray, pray!"

She just repeated the word pray over and over again. She didn't know what praying actually meant or what she should be doing, but Knox found it funny, so he didn't stop her.

Anyway, the rewards continued being given out. Only Treasure Troves past that point, though.

After a couple of minutes, Knox was confident in his grasp of the rankings. From lowest to highest so far, they went:

1- Blue

2- Red

3- Silver

4- Gold

The last three colored Treasure Troves were Black, Diamond, and a rainbow-iridescent color, of which Knox was still unclear on the exact order they were ranked.

However, when it finally came time for the Top 10 to receive their rewards, he learned that Diamond was next. And surprisingly, Cela—his stalker—not only scraped into the Top 10 but was also the first to get one of these Diamond-ranked Treasure Troves.

[Trial Taker Ranked #10 on the List - Reward: Holy Pill of Darkness (Middle-Heaven)]

"Oh my God!" someone burst out in surprise. "To not only get a Heaven-rank item but a pill of the Middle-Heaven Rank!? So envious!"

"I've heard of this pill before," said someone else. "It's a pill that only the greatest of Grandmaster Alchemists can refine! And from what I hear—depending on what the consumer wants—it can either tremendously supplement your Light or Dark Innate Energy upon consumption! That's to say, if you main the Light or Dark Elements, your cultivation will improve by leaps and bounds if you swallow and refine the pill!"

"Damn, it's that good!?"

As the cultivators around her chattered among themselves, Cela gladly accepted the pill that came from a Black Trove. Yet, her joy stemmed not from herself. Rather, the only thing on her mind was finding her Darling and giving him the pill.

'Surely he'll start loving me like I love him if I shower him with gifts!' she thought optimistically. 'I hear he loves gaining strength now, so he'll definitely like this pill!'

Knox tilted his head in confusion as he curiously observed the giddy pink-haired beauty.

"Is she okay in the head?" he questioned. "…I suppose that's a rhetorical question…"

In spite of his quiet whisperings, the next Treasure Trove descended from behind the Six-Winged Seraphim's Eye. It was another Black-ranked Trove—one that went to none other than—

"My fiancée…" Knox muttered, getting a better look at her cold, graceful appearance. "She seems to be doing better than she was a couple of months ago. However, for some reason, I feel as if what happened with her friend is still eating away at her. Even if she's learned the truth of dying in Pandora, an event like the one she experienced doesn't just go away."

Death.

It was one of the most mysterious and unavoidable factors in the world. Something that came for everything with a soul. Very little was known about this abstract concept, but what was etched deep into the hearts of many was the lasting effect that death had on those who personally witnessed it.

'Yennefer Berkshire has simply experienced it for the first time,' Knox thought deeply. 'But it surely won't be the last time. I should know; I've witnessed the deaths of too many to count—not just in this lifetime but all my hundreds of lifetimes.'

While locked in a complicated state of mind, he impassively watched as the Six-Winged Seraphim's Eye's robotic voice announced what Yennefer got:

[Trial Taker Ranked #9 on the List - Reward: Low-grade Fire Origin Source]

As far as natural Innate Energy-filled items went, Origin Sources neared the very top of the list in the Elemental Nations. They were like Spirit Stones but contained far more Innate Energy and were of a way higher quality and density.

If priced on the market, a single Low-grade Fire Origin Source could go for thousands of High-grade Spirit Stones. Which, for reference, equated to millions of Mid-grade Spirit Stones—enough to purchase dozens, if not hundreds, of the pill that Cela gave to Knox in order to perfect his foundation.

A pill that Cela had to kneel in front of her father's room for many days to obtain…

"The Black-ranked Treasure Troves are so much better!" shouted someone ranked in the 10s. "We only obtained items in the Half-step Heaven-rank, yet everyone in the Top is receiving treasures that'll make even the most prestigious of sects in the Elemental Nations jealous!"

"Is this the true difference between destined geniuses and us common folk…!?"
