Chapter 268: Big News! Super Big News!
"Cough cough—" Dean Tan cleared his throat with two coughs, and the hall instantly fell silent.
Dozens of cameras were pointed directly at Tan's face, ready to record everything he said.
Although Tan had never faced so many media outlets at once before, after all, as a dean, he had seen all kinds of storms.
He adjusted his mentality and then put on a natural smile. After glancing around at the numerous cameras, he slowly said,
"I, Tan Shizhen, hereby declare that the videos spreading online about our hospital's specially invited expert verbally abusing patients and reporters are not true!"
"The doctor in the video is a Chief Physician specially hired by our hospital, skilled in medicine and noble in medical ethics. It's absolutely impossible that he would swear in public!"
"I hope everyone does not spread rumors based on rumors. If this causes severe negative impact on our hospital, we will take legal action against the relevant media outlets. Please be aware!"
After finishing his speech, Tan remained silent in place, still with the cameras clicking away at him.
Anyway, he wasn't planning on saying any more.
But this bureaucratic answer dissatisfied the reporters below.
What he said was just a denial, wasn't it?
There was no substantive news at all. As for the identity of the special expert—his name, age, appearance—they were all completely in the dark.
Tan Shizhen was indeed a sly old fox, replying to questions so smoothly!
Some reporters were not satisfied with Tan's answer and continued to inquire:
"Could you please ask the person involved to come out and clarify this?"
"The special expert you mentioned, do they have proof of their credentials?"
"Since you say this expert is highly skilled, then he must be a famous doctor in the related field, right? Can you reveal a little more information?"
The reporters were relentless. It seemed like they wouldn't leave today without prying some information about the so-called special expert.
But Tan Shizhen didn't want to drag this out with them.
He waved at the venue control staff, still sporting a formulaic, fake smile to the journalists:
"As for the information about our hospital's specially invited expert, that's all classified, and I have nothing to disclose."
"All right, that concludes today's press conference. We'll meet again next time!"
No sooner had the words left his mouth than the lights in the back of the hall began to switch off row by row.
Tan was clearly ushering people out.
He had said what he intended to, and the rest could be left to the journalists to speculate about.
Compared to having attracted Gu Yu, these press matters hardly counted for anything.
If the Affiliated Hospital could weather this incident and sign a long-term cooperation agreement with Gu Yu, then they would truly hit the jackpot.
He had discussed with Dai Zhengguo that if they could keep Gu Yu at Haidong Affiliated Hospital, the hospital was sure to reach a new level in the future.
That was someone who might very well become an Academician!
The journalists, although somewhat irritated by Tan's clear intention to disperse them, were powerless.
After all, Tan Shizhen was a respected and esteemed dean. In Haidong Hospital, his word was law. And even in the entire Modu, the whole Huaxia medical community, his name was significant.
As journalists, they dared to pursue the truth, but they couldn't coerce answers!
If they annoyed Tan, they feared they might never set foot in the hospital again...
After all, apart from being journalists, they were ordinary people who could fall ill.
Nobody dared to irritate Tan Shizhen.
"Meeting adjourned!"
With the lights dimmed, leaving only the lectern illuminated, Tan waved his hand, ready to leave.
Just then, a handsome young man in a white lab coat suddenly pushed the door open and entered.
"Wait, Dean Tan, I have something to say!"
Experience new stories on empire
Tan turned towards the voice and was momentarily startled by the expression of the newcomer.
It was Gu Yu!
"Why are you here?" Tan said, totally bewildered. He looked toward Dai Zhengguo sitting in the darkness, barely making out Dai shaking his head, indicating he also had no idea Gu Yu would come.
Tan had thought that Gu Yu planned to let Haidong Hospital take the brunt of the pressure, and he had secretly cursed the youngster for his lack of decency.
But unexpectedly, he had shown up!
"Of course, I'm here to solve my trouble, Dean Tan! Thank you for your hard work these past few days!"
Gu Yu walked quickly over to Tan Shizhen, who looked more fatigued than when they last met. It was evident that the recent events had troubled Tan.
"Solve your trouble?"
Dean Tan looked on in astonishment. Gu Yu was actually more responsible than he thought!
He'd even criticized him for being unscrupulous, but it seemed he had been wrong to do so.
"Well, could someone from the control desk turn up the lights, please?"
Gu Yu nodded, then took control of the situation, walking to the microphone in the center of the podium and speaking to the audio technician and control desk.
The lights clicked back on, illuminating the entire room.
The reporters below the stage were also visibly confused as they looked at Gu Yu on the stage.
Most of them recognized Gu Yu; after all, he was Dou Ying's number one "National Husband." Being members of the media themselves, how could they not know him?
Gu Yu's flawlessly perfect face was his trademark.
Moreover, many among them felt a sense of helplessness towards Gu Yu because, after he skyrocketed to fame on Dou Ying, many of their media outlets had attempted to interview him firsthand.
But not a single one of them managed to contact Gu Yu.
All channels for interviews had been proactively cut off by Gu Yu himself, unless one could enter Haidong University, which was clearly unlikely.
Even if they managed to slip into Haidong University, finding Gu Yu was far from guaranteed.
And yet today, Gu Yu had voluntarily appeared at a press conference...
It was indeed both shocking and exciting for them, and also extremely puzzling.
Why would Gu Yu be at Haidong Hospital? Was he here for a check-up?
Then why was he wearing a doctor's white coat?
As everyone was lost in their confusion, Gu Yu took the initiative to speak.
"Ladies and gentlemen, aren't you here to find out about the 'Haidong Hospital's swearing doctor' mentioned online?"
"I am the person in question, Haidong Hospital's distinguished visiting expert, Chief Surgeon Gu Yu."
"If you have any questions, you may now directly ask me!"
After Gu Yu spoke three sentences in quick succession, the room fell silent.
Every reporter doubted their ears—was the swearing doctor really Gu Yu?
How was that possible?
The information they had indicated that Gu Yu was a junior majoring in software engineering at Haidong University, right?
So what was the story with this man claiming to be a Chief Surgeon and a distinguished visiting expert of Haidong Hospital?
Could it be that Gu Yu was actually a twin, with two Gu Yus—one a student and one a doctor?
But how could there be two perfectly identical twins?
"Yes, if you have any questions, feel free to direct them to our distinguished expert, Doctor Gu,"
"I am sure Doctor Gu will provide satisfactory answers for everyone."
Dean Tan timely chimed in to verify Gu Yu's identity.
"Then, may I ask if you are the Gu Yu from Haidong University?" a reporter gauging the room asked first.
"Yes! That's me, the only Gu Yu who looks like this in the world,"
Gu Yu said, nodding his head slightly with a smile in affirmation.
"Wow—"
As these words were spoken, the entire room buzzed with astonishment.
Indeed, it was the same person!
A junior majoring in software who also happened to be a distinguished expert at Haidong Hospital, and a nationally recognized Chief Surgeon at that!
These two seemingly incompatible identities were linked to a single individual.
This was far more explosive than any news about a swearing doctor!
Instantly, all cameras were switched on, focusing on Gu Yu on the stage.
"Are you really a junior at Haidong University and also a distinguished expert at Haidong Hospital? Are you certain there is no falsehood in your statement?"
The reporter from Huaxia Newspaper still couldn't quite believe it and asked again.
Gu Yu patiently nodded, his face still adorned with a cordial smile:
"I am certain!"
In a flash, the photographers' flashes started to go off like crazy, creating an atmosphere that was even livelier than the mood lighting in a bar.
"Big news! Super big news!"
Several state media reporters exchanged glances, with excitement apparent in everyone's eyes.
